About Fanworks, Lost Fanworks and Fandoms in General (not just my ship)
Many people believe that everything you post on the Internet stays on the Internet forever, even if it gets deleted. Sadly, it's not always the case, unless you post it on several platforms or it becomes viral, or someone saves it or takes screenshots of it. Archieve.org and other useful tools tend to get hacked (my guess: some people want things related to them to disappear, and they have means to arrange it; with a lot of collateral damage, of course), so they don't always help either. And, if it's something really old, chances are it can't ever be recovered, especially if you have no links, don't remember a person's username, etc.
I don't know if many people even know or remember how much of fan works used to be posted on Livejournal (LJ) 10-15+ years ago. There were huge communities for all sorts of fandoms, as well as solitary artists, who posted their beautiful works on their blogs only. And I'm not even talking about websites that no longer exist (such as an old "yaoi" website (I use quotation marks, because, while it was specifically for m/m, it wasn't limited to anime and manga, despite the title, far from it) that was suddenly shut down years ago. And it's not the only one).
Once a platform shuts down or changes its rules (I'm sure many people remember how tumblr changed its rules as well, and erotic or explicit art went down the drain before they allowed it again, to a degree, but simply started to mark it as mature (even when it's not, lol...), or things get deleted for any other reason, there's a good chance that someone's precious works are lost forever.
I've seen many artworks with Kuai Liang/Tomas after the release of MK9 in 2011. I still remember some of them very well and with warmth. Some were erotic, some romantic or humorous. And it felt as if you can always come back and see your favourite things again. In reality, a lot of them are gone for good now.
These days I tend to save everything I love on my computer (I'd be laughed at years ago for doing it), because I learned my lesson from the aforementioned events. As of late, I even save my favourite fanfiction as well.
I just need to get this off my chest, because, while I love and revisit my personal Kuai Liang/Tomas collection and it makes me happy, I also can't help thinking how many more things could've been there. Apparently, it happens when you ship something for so long.
I'm so very grateful to all of the people who had created and shared things that I appreciate back then, even though I only have memories now and even though those people will, most likely, never read this.
But I'm also very grateful to those who have created and shared their works more recently, or doing it right now. It means a lot. Thank you!
I don't really use social media, apart from posting my own fan art and fanfiction here, and there are so many different platforms now with too much content that simply gets in the way and consumes a lot of time that I don't have, so I'm bad at searching, especially when it requires so much browsing and scrolling. And I, kind of, have FOMO because of it when it comes to my favourite pairing, but there's nothing I can do about it either. If you happen to be an artist, who draws Kuai Liang/Tomas, please, feel free to contact me and show me your art! The same goes to anybody who finds something interesting with these two, whether it's old or new. :)
Apologies for the long post. I'm a bit emotional right now.
