I don't know op, do you ever think about how jon's worst fear was disappearing without any record of what happened to him, he kept meticulous record of everything on the tapes so that he wouldn't "become another mystery", and in his final moments every last one of those tapes was thrown into the abyss and not even he knew what was going to happen to him and martin, much less anyone who came after?
