Getting cozy by the fire.
Mutuals do this to me
In honor of vulture awareness day, let me ask you a question.
Do you love vultures?
You should.
Here’s why:
1, They are simultaneously the most majestic, and the most f*cking derpy of birbs. Observe -
2. THEY’RE SO FUCKING BADASS. We all know that they eat dead things. Eww, right? Wrong. They’re capable of digesting fucking rabies, cholera, hundreds of strains of bacteria that would straight up kill your ass given the chance. They deserve ALL of the respect, but they don’t get any, because ‘eww they eat dead things’.
3. THEY ARE FUCKING AMAZING AT WHAT THEY DO - Some of the highest flying birds ever recorded, with amazing eyesight and smell. Vultures are highly specialised - yes, that means they sometimes have bald heads. So what? People are all over sphinx cats and those semi-hairless dogs.
4. If you think they’re ugly, well, look at these precious babs and tell me you still don’t feel anything:
I have more reasons, but, look, I’ll just get straight to the point:
THEY’RE GOING EXTINCT, AND MORE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW.
Populations of some vultures have fallen more than 90% in the last 20 years, and that’s scary as fuck. Reasons for this range from livestock carcasses being contaminated with certain drugs, to poachers killing them off because vultures give them away. But whatever the reasons, they’re dying off fast, and we need to act before it’s too late. We need to help protect them and conserve them as much if not more than some of the ‘cuter’ endangered creatures.
So what can you do? Here are some useful links if you want to learn more:

They really are amazing birds ~ thank you for sticking with my long-ass post
:P
IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN, PALS!!!!
in the last year, I’ve visited several bird of prey specialist centres, many of which are now actively championing the plight of our vulture friends - trying hard to endear them to the public and supporting/ participating in overseas causes that help in various ways. One of these places was the Hawk Conservancy Trust which, if you’re in the UK, I HIGHLY recommend - both for the quality of the centre and the displays they run, and for the extensive conservation work they do at home and overseas!
Anyway, enough talk. It’s time to appreciate this sleepy boy.
But you forgot my most favorite of all!! The Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier or Ossifrage)!!!
Crows are scary They
use tools
Can be taught to speak (like parrots)
Have huge brains for birds
like seriously their brain-to-body size ratio is equal to that of a chimpanzee
They vocalize anger, sadness, or happiness in response to things
they are scary smart at solving puzzles
some crows stay with their mates until one of them dies
they can remember faces
SIDENOTE HERE BECAUSE HOLY SHIT. They did an experiment where these guys wore masks and some of them fucked with crows. Pretty soon the crows recognized the masks = douchebag. But the nice guys with masks they left alone. THEN, OH WE’RE NOT DONE, NO SIR crows that WEREN’T EVEN IN THE EXPERIMENT AND NEVER SAW THE MASK BEFORE knew about mask-dudes and attacked them on sight. THEY PASSED ON THE FUCKING INFORMATION TO THEIR CROW BUDDIES.
They remember places where crows were killed by farmers and change their migration patterns.
Guys I’m really scared of crows now. (q)
Yeah but have you seen this
A colleague of my dad’s lives next to a lake, and looked out the window one morning to see a duck trapped in the ice. A crow swooped down. “Oh hell,” she thought, expecting carnage, because crows are opportunists. But the crow chipped at the ice with its beak until the duck was free.
Idk of this counts but a few crows saved me from a magpie swooping attack once ,they’re bros who can tell when magpies are being unreasonable and need to chill
I love crows so damn much. When I was fifteen, I hit a pretty serious bout of depression, to the point I was in my room for months. Well, a family of crows made a nest in a tree outside my window. There were two parents and two chicks. One chick was healthy and strong. One was weak, and had a caw like something being strained. It sounded more like a rooster crowing and so my parents jokingly named him ‘Buck’.Well… months passed and Buck’s sibling was taught to fly. His parents focused on the sibling because the sibling was strong. The father stayed behind to try and teach Buck, but I saw him try to fly, fail, and crash to the floor. His father helped him back up into the tree.
Every day, I would watch Buck from my window until one day I opened it and started talking to him. He was small and gangly and he couldn’t caw right. His feathers were all over the place and I felt a kinship. So I made a deal with him. I told him that if he could do it, if he could fly, then I could find the strength to get up. Well… near the end of the season, after talking with him every day, I finally saw him get out of the nest. He went to the edge of his branch, braced himself, and jumped… and just before he hit the ground, he soared back up into the sky. I cheered harder than I ever had before.
That winter, Buck left the area. I was crestfallen. I felt like I’d lost a friend. But I was so damn proud of him.
Cut to the next spring? I’m walking up the driveway one day when suddenly I hear a sound… a broken caw. I look up, and Buck is sitting in a tree above my head. He stared at me and puffed his feathers, then hopped down in front of me and cawed again. I was so damn thrilled, and I told him how proud I was of him. He ruffled his feathers and then soared off into his old tree.
That summer? I heard two broken caws. One from Buck… and one from his chick.
Cut to ten years later? We have a family of crows who all have a very distinct caw and they come here and spend every spring, summer, and fall on our property. Buck still greets me every spring.
that last reply made me wanna cry. that’s so beautiful.
Don’t forget the Russian Crow SLEDDING DOWN A ROOF not once, but twice.
this one morning i kept hearing really loud caws, i remember it was like 5am, LIKE REALLY LOUD AND ANNOYING AND AGGRESSIVE, so loud that i could hear it through a closed window, and i eventually went outside to check it out. there was a crow on my front lawn, it had an injury on its head and couldn’t fly and there were two other crows circling right above it, and they were cawing like mad.
i tried to get close and take a better look and one of them dived super low and tried to attack me. so i went back in the house and chopped some sliced raw meat and tossed it at him from a distance.
a few more times later, very soon after, they could tell i was trying to help, and did not attack me. i was “allowed” to walk up close and pick him up, he couldn’t drink water properly so i had to dip my finger in a bowl and stick it in his mouth.
i did this few times a day and it went on for about a week before he disappeared, i thought he recovered and left, but he came back the next day and lands on me, and i see him around the block quite often, and he would come sit on my shoulder for a few minutes and then fly away again. i feel like i’ve adopted a son.
Best birbs !!
your son is Beautiful and Strong
every time I see this post it has different crow stories and every time I reblog it again because all crow stories are good stories
Like, I wouldn’t want to be on bad terms with a crow, but they are a really smart animal, they aren’t scary You just want to be nice to them because they will know and they will remember, and they will pay you back if you treat them a certain way.
As a side note, I volunteered at a rehab (Hope for Wildlife), where they were rehabbing a crow with a broken wing–who was named Russell Crow. He kept pulling his bandage off so a sleeve was cut off some old clothing and put on him like a little sweater.
!!!!
I don’t think I’ll ever not reblog this. This posts makes me cry and smile at the same time.
He’s so handsome!!
I would trust a crow with my life
This is your regularly scheduled crow appreciation post
I love crows!
moral of the story: crows my beloved?

IM FUCKING HYPERVENTILATING PLEASE MINGI WHAT THE FUXK
SONG. MINGI. SONG MINGI.
The most hilarious part of italians’ reaction to coronavirus/covid19 has been them stockpiling EVERY SINGLE type of pasta except the PENNE LISCE
which Italians couldn’t bring themselves to buy or eat even during a mass psychosis
The moment italians start buying penne lisce will be the moment we know our society has truly collapsed
Listen, if I’m gonna die, my last meal is NOT gonna be fucking penne lisce.
Someone explain please! I want to knowwww
Penne lische is smooth and doesn’t hold sauce the way penne rigate does
The grooves make more sauce adhere to it
wait that picture up there then ACTUALLY is of a smooth tube and not just. a bad picture? smooth penne exists? that’s horrifying the ridges are the best part it’s like eating a tiny accordion
And that is why it is an abomination.
Disgusting. Vile. I would die before eating that filth.
I have eaten penne lisce. Objectively the worst pasta. If you sneeze too hard in its general direction, any sauce on it will fly off. You can literally cook it in tomato sauce and it will still taste of nothing. Even if you stuff cheese inside it by hand, meticulously, individually, it will fall out. No friction on these fuckers. Bad pasta.
I love how this global situation has brought us to the absolute limits of our humanity in all ways.

it’s so hard to pick a halloween aesthetic. there are so many options out there
first you have your vintage halloween aesthetic. for me (born in 1995) it reminds me of my earliest halloweens as a child, the Halloween’s spent at relatives house or how my kindergarten classroom was decorated. lots of orange, blown plastic decorations, taking us back to a time before candy corn was a discourse topic
this is your basic “Pinterest autumn” aesthetic, but I don’t mean that in a bad way! comfy novelty socks, Halloween movie marathons, pumpkin carving and pumpkin spice lattes, this aesthetic is refreshing and comforting. embraces the entire season of fall and not just the day of Halloween.
“neon Halloween” or the “halloween party aesthetic” this reminds me of nighttime, being old enough to trick or treat by myself and hitting up the scariest houses. loud dance music, themed drinks, and fog machines.
swapping out the traditional orange, green and purple for lavender, pink and blue, Pastel Halloween is a new one that’s gained traction over the years, in part due to “kawaii” culture gone mainstream and the pastel goth aesthetic.
“Gothic Halloween” is a more mature Halloween aesthetic and likely one that people into it will decorate with year round. Bats, red roses and skulls, think “Addams family mansion”
Another new one, the “celestial Halloween” aesthetic is enjoyed by all your witches and tarot readers. crystal balls, crystal skulls, crystal everything. the dominant colors for this aesthetic are purple and blue, paired with silver, gold or black. also crosses over with a spooky plant aesthetic for some reason.
I don’t know what Daniel Radcliffe is doing these days and this clip doesn’t help but here’s my thoughts on the matter:
It’s a show where he plays a priest who taking a group of pioneers across the Oregon trail with Steve Buscemi... if that helps for context.
Bad Landing, Cornell Lab, captured by Cam Lady (Laysan albatross)
For anyone curious, it is my understanding that this is actually just… kind of how they land. An albatross has long wings that are so narrow they can’t really slow down to land, so they just sort of haphazardly crash into the ground and try not to faceplant or tumble too much. Fortunately they don’t actually NEED to land very much, since they spend the vast majority of their lives in the air or on the water. Unfortunately the few times they do need to land (like when caring for babies), they often end up looking like fools.
Here’s a “best case scenario with the wind on her side” slomo landing- and she still faceplants:
Suddenly Wilbur being unable to land normally in The Rescuers Down Under makes so much more sense.
@woodyswicked oh my god it explains so much
I was walking through the toy aisle at Target when I found this thing and had a VIOLENT AND IMMEDIATE FLASHBACK to when JP first came out and they had a bunch of REALLY COOL T Rex toys that I would have sold one of my scrawny small-child limbs for but my mother wouldn’t get me one because they were “too violent and also ate people” :(
hnn I WANT IT SO BAD
on closer inspection, it makes a lot of really obnoxious noises and is also Too Expensive. BUT FEAR NOT I found this slightly smaller dude wedged in the back!
IT HAS BITE ACTION, AND THAT’S THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS
now we enter the testing phase
yup. looks good.
Extreme Chompin T-Rex says IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS
Can we take a moment to appreciate that we can use this as a rosetta stone to say “EXTREME CHOMPIN’ “ in four languages?
OH SHIT YOU’RE RIGHT, let me check the garbage to see if it’s still there! hopefully I didn’t destroy it in my excitement
*roar sound effect*
IMPORTANT UPDATE:

I love.
I saw that people are reblogging the thread again, so I thought I’d give you all an update on how Wexter is doing!
(just fine)
Wexter And The Case Of Her Continuing Marvelously Naughty Garden Adventures
Wexter says SHE WOULD NEVER DO SUCH A THING (but she might chew your ankles a little bit maybe)
so it’s come to my attention that at some point this weekend Wexter blew past 100,000 notes, and I for one think that’s very cash money of her.
we’re coming to you LIVE More than two hundred thousand notes later from HALLOWEEN 2020, where WEXTER continues to be absolutely DINO-RIFFIC!
… at least for as long as it takes to chew the costume off.
people have been asking about Wexter again in the summer of 2021! she’s fine, but she needs to stop napping in the laundry basket.
