It's the most wonderful time of the year
Merry Christmas!
Happy holidays, everyone!
This will be my final post for this year, and I'll be taking a brief break from social media to recharge my energy.
I'll see you soon in the next year!
"well, the laser vision IS a plus, because it's cool watching her set stuff on fire from 50 yards away. and i like that she can fly and get things off of high shelves for me. but those aren't the ONLY reasons why i like her!"
(also i hope you enjoy retro batdad, because that's where my brain's at right now. i'm delighted that starfire's design is already so incredibly 60s; she fits right in 🌠)
Based on things I have seen non-Green Arrow fans be surprised to know

If i was Roy Harper and my best friend died, came back to life, and then didn’t tell me i’d be so pissed. Imagine your best friend has been alive for MONTHS while you thought he was dead and he didn’t come to you for help? Roy would’ve done anything for Jason and Jason didn’t tell him, just let him keep mourning? i’m so sad
oh honey, that's because Jason isn't Roy's best friend. You wanna know who is Roy's best friend? THE GUY WHO TRIED TO SAVE HIM FROM DYING AND WAS THERE IN HIS DYING MOMENTS
Elio, c'mon. This again? The condescension is really not helping you make your case.
After the message you sent me, I thought you'd stop doing this.
h u h, I must've missed this. also, nothing said here is wrong, fortanu :/
I was moreso talking about the tone of your reblog, it reads (imo) as a 'gotcha' in a negative way. If that wasn't your intent then I apologize.
But yeah what you said about Roy and Wally is fundamentally correct and I wouldn't dispute it. (I'm not 100% sure what the op was referring to, and it looks like they've deleted the post so maybe it was a mistake?)
Although! If you wouldn't mind, I do have a genuine question that I think you could answer? Most of the material I've read that pairs the Titans up as best friends usually have Dick+Wally, Dick+Roy, Dick+Donna, and Donna+Roy (this one is usually romantic tho). I think the Heroes in Crisis is probably the first one I've seen that Roy and Wally say they're best friends. Are there other comics that have that dynamic that I've missed? Or am I misunderstanding the social dynamics and it's like the whole group of Titans are 'best friends' at the same time? I've always understood the best friend concept to be a single individual but maybe I'm thinking too hard about it lol.
Who would win in a fight
Jason Todd/Robin/Red Hood
Daredevil/Matthew Michael Murdock
I'm on team Daredevil. I love Jason, don't get me wrong, but what does he have at his disposal? Guns? Sure, sure. We've literally seen Matt avoid bullets because he can hear them though
Not to mention Jason isn't the stealthiest boy, he's heavy and makes heavy footsteps. Matt would be able to "see" him just fine. ESPECIALLY if they're fighting in Gotham, which is so fucking rainy
“Jason isn’t the stealthiest boy, he’s heavy and makes heavy footsteps.”
I cannot stand for this Jason slander (jokingly, I’m here to have fun).
Seriously though, Jason was Robin, he trained with the Bat: Mr. “I am the night”; Mr. “I hate when he does that disappearing thing”. And do you know how he spent his post-robin, back-to-life-vacation-world-tour???
He spent it training with assassins. The world’s best. For years. He can absolutely move in a way that is unnervingly stealthy to the average person. Especially for his size. Disappearing into the shadows is lesson number one with like, the majority of the people he ever trained under.
Just in sheer time spent, Jason has far more formal, guided training than Matt Murdock ever got, and his offensive capabilities are not limited to bullets. He’s an expert hand-to-hand combatant and sword wielder. He has excellent maneuverability and literally outran Batman and Nightwing in a rooftop chase (admittedly one in which they were still underestimating him, but still). Jason spent years training to be good enough to beat Batman.
What I’m saying is this is a great matchup, actually. These are two guys who are both deeply used to fighting ninjas and used to fighting guys with guns.
I think they would spend a very long time surprising each other. They would both walk into this fight thinking “easy win”, and both be shocked as the other pulls out more and more unexpected skills/abilities.
Now, ultimately, I STILL voted for Daredevil to win, specifically because I think Matt absolutely could still track Jason even at his stealthiest, and I think that would give Matt an edge specifically because that almost never happens to Jason. Fading into the shadows will do nothing for Jason here, and he’s definitely not used to fighting people who can listen for his heartbeat, and I think that he would trip over the inability to disappear when he means to.
But even if I think that would give Matt the edge he needs to win, it would absolutely not be a short or easy fight. And it’s definitely not because Jason is clumsy or loud (unless he means to be).
Honestly I'd argue Jason is fact prepared to sneak up on someone who can listen for heartbeats. Because such people do exist in his world. Jason was trained by Batman, who regularly sneaks up on Superman, and Superman has hearing that's exponentially better than Daredevil's. Like, if Matt can hear a heartbeat a few hundred meters away, Clark can hear one on the far side of the planet.
Anyone who can even potentially get the drop on Superman can do so to Daredevil no problem.
You know, you are absolutely correct. Jason hangs out with enough people with super senses that it’s not outside his experience to be heard just existing, per se, so he’d be familiar with working around that. I just generally think his surprise at having to do so now would throw him enough to give Matt an edge. Jason’s still predominantly used to fooling/hiding from people who rely heavily on sight. He just wouldn’t be able to direct his efforts as efficiently as possible until he realized that his opponent is entirely immune to visual misdirection. Especially because Matt’s using other senses (e.g. smell, pressure, etc.) far more heavily than most anyone else Jason would have fought, even if they would be theoretically capable of it by sensory acuity alone.
I don’t even think cutting the lights would make the fight super clear cut, because even in the unlikely event Jason doesn’t have his helmet/night vision, the odds that ninja assassin training included being forced to learn to fight blindfolded seem very, very high to me. But! Ultimately I just think that once these two are fully engaged, until Jason’s able to figure out exactly how Matt is operating, he’s going to be wasting that tiny bit more time, energy, and hits taken than his opponent while he figures it out. The second he does I think the scales tip in Jason’s favor, because he would absolutely have some tool on him to temporarily deafen one or both of them somehow, at the very least, but I’m just not sure that realization would happen soon enough.
Honestly what I really keep coming back to with this fight is that I’d just really, really love to see it.
I HC Jason as ex-catholic (there’s an alternate universe where he literally became a priest), and he has some very specific issues with heroes with strict no-killing codes, particularly ones who are a bit preachy about it (as Matt has been known to be before). Jason, former Robin, academic and theater kid at heart, is a chatty combatant when he’s not being stealthy. He would definitely get quippy about the devil outfit. Matthew is-literally-a-lawyer Murdock could absolutely be talked into a good heated argument. They’ve both had very different reactions to their prior life experience with ninja assassin cults that operate on the principle that the ends justify the means. But also like. They both choose to operate far below the tax bracket they could in their chosen professions. They both choose to return to and stick with and defend the rough neighborhoods of their childhoods, specifically so they can help the little guy from the bottom up. They are, in the most interesting of ways, both incredibly similar, and diametrically opposed. I wouldn’t just love to see them fight, I would be delighted to watch them argue.
I wanna see them have a long, drawn out fight where they’re forced to progress from deeply underestimating each other to being surprised and grudgingly respectful of the other’s unexpected and improbable range and caliber of skills, and I want them to be having an ideological debate while they do it.
And then I want Jason to show up at Matt’s place the next day like the creepy bat he is like “so it looks like you’re stuck investigating this one case that overlaps with mine”. They would both walk away from any confrontation/collaboration thinking “there is something deeply wrong with him” about the other guy, but also I’ve realized a sudden and intense craving to watch them interact. If Jason works with the bats and Matt has occasionally teamed up with the Punisher, they could absolutely team up with each other occasionally and I wanna watch them drive each other insane, and be baffled by each other, and also weirdly get each other, and drive themselves insane about it.
Cass being into horror movies is such a funny idea I'm annoyed it's only referenced in passing. Imagine the most terrifying person in the world hiding inside her hoodie from the Exorcist. Imagine the most merciful and compassionate person in the world wheeze laughing as Jason Voorhees folds a man's body up like an origami swan.
My favorite thing about horror fan Cass is her using them as inspiration for terrorizing bad guys.
[grabs your shoulders and shakes you] something being widely accepted fanon does not actually make it "basically canon" and it doesn't mean people who don't incorporate it into their fics or acknowledge it are doing something wrong
Dick Grayson's talent for manipulation literally brings the world to its knees.
Part 1 post
My absolute favorite trait about Dick aside from his craziness is his ability to control every single person in existence. The best part is, he's so clever in the way that he does it that people almost never notice.
Bart Allen
"Oh! Ahh..you're trying to get my DNA sample. You need my spit! Ha! That's such a Dick Grayson thing to do."
Bart knows!! Dick's brilliantly sly okay. Honey catches more flies that vinegar? He takes it so far that breaks he the ceiling with it because by the time he's done, people don't even know they've been manipulated. And if they do, then what can they do about it? He always wins.
With friends and family he does it to make them feel better without being so overt and discomforting them.
Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis
Jon came to him when he was feeling lost and upset and Dick set up the perfect conditions to encourage him and pick him up. He's just so good at doing what he's doing but he does it for all the right reasons.
But the extent Dick can go trick and manipulate someone is off the charts. A virtuoso.
In a Titans comic, Dick literally spent MONTHS acting depressed and weak after Donna, Wally, and Garth were kidnapped to another dimension by a villain just so he could trick the villain into thinking that his career was over and bring him into the same dimension so Dick could take him down.
He fooled everyone.
Teen Titans: The Silver Age TBP 2 Part #1
"Batman taught me how to be a totally convincing actor! So if the only way you could send me here with your ring was if I filled my brain with evil thoughts, I just faked it! My facial expression was pure evil-but my mind remained pure good." MONTHS.
He planned, pretended, and calculated every single fiber of his own mind and body until the whole world was fooled by his acting. He tricked an interdimensional being who had psychic access. That means he was so extraordinarily manipulative, he can control his own thoughts inside his head to trick someone else. Voldemort's legilimens has nothing on Dick's talent.
Like Bart, sometimes his allies are aware of this like with Selina-
Gotham City Sirens Issue #23
Selina's literally having a mental breakdown trying not to fall for Dick's manipulation and tricks.
But even if they know he's manipulating them, they still are forced to fall for it anyway.
Gotham City Sirens Issue #23
"Damn it."
Like a goldilocks mad scientist - he does it just right.
His acting is just so on point that he outschemes the schemer.
When the Crime Syndicate (Superwoman, Ultraman, Owlman, Power ring, etc) arrive on Earth to take it over when Dick is Batman, Dick needs to do something fast. But to make things worse, there's a being that's so powerful, that both the Crime Synidcate and Justice League combined have a snowball's chance in hell of defeating him.
So what does Dick do? He runs the game.
Justice League of America (2006) Issue #52
Justice League of America (2006) Issue #52
"Of course he had a plan the whole time. He's Batman. He always has a plan."
Justice League of America (2006) Issue #52
He tricks everyone.
Justice League of America (2006) Issue #52
And in the end, the Justice League wins and Dick saves the world.
Justice League of America (2006) Issue #52
I love how they characterized Owlman as a snake because that would make Dick a mongoose since mongoose eats snakes. And do you know what Mongoose represent in folklore? Action, adventure, boldness, fearlessness, impulsiveness, independence, optimism, rebellion, resistance, resourcefulness, speed, adaptation, agility, quickness, intelligence and wit. All characteristics that define him.
He plays the world like a chessboard, always five steps ahead.
He always has an ace hidden up his sleeve.
His thoughts are always masked behind a disarming smile.
He has mastered the art of manipulation.
And that's while he's outright fighting. His subtlety is just so seductive.
Take a look at the way he smoothly evades answering in this panel -
Grayson Issue #9
He's so smooth. She's constantly on the watch but she instantly fell head over heels for his charms in a half a heartbeat, that's just how good he is.
Grayson Issue #10
He's a master manipulator who knows exactly what to say and how to act to always end up winning.
It's seriously such a shame that one of his greatest skills and talents isn't talked about more because this man?! Flawless.
He's the spy everyone on TV wishes they could be. He's the type of spy people read about in history books and marvel at the ease, grace, and legendary story he leaves behind. He's the spy that everyone knows and dreams of in their fantasies.
Nightwing (2016)
And oh how they so are.
He can just get people to do whatever he wants.
There's a reason why Batman's only contingency plan against Nightwing is "Let's hope he fucks up." Because with his intelligence, skill, power, charisma, and raw talent - he's goddamn unstoppable.
tbh i'm glad they gave the animal forms digitigrade legs even if they are strangely large, it would look wildly stupid otherwise lol
