I love this text post so I drew it
man you really gotta give it up for skin, the best organ ever
what's keeping out practically every disease, infection, and contamination? skin
what's responsible for 90% of cooling you down when it's hot outside? skin
what can absorb radiation from the goddamn sun and somehow you only get hotter for it? skin
what organ can you decorate with paint, cosmetics, tattoos, and also use as a to-do list when you've got your wrist and a sharpie? SKIN BABEYYYY
practically every organ is annoying in some way. the human body is cursed. every bone and muscle is built spitefully and your immune system is halfway trying to kill you. but skin? skin is trying its very best and it's doing a great job of it. skin is healing up after the most fucked up stuff imaginable and growing back twice as strong because it loves you and wants to protect you. this is not a shitpost i just genuinely want more people to take a second to appreciate something about themselves they've always taken for granted
talk shit about acne all you want, but that infection would have been a death sentence if skin hadn't taken the hit for you so be nice

Last night I was thinking about one of my darker aus where Scott is burned alive on a pyre, and I wrote a little bit for it. I'm not planning on expanding it or putting it up on AO3 or anything, so I thought I might as well put it on tumblr for my followers to read! It's descriptive, so please be careful reading it <3
-
He screams.
Until his throat is ash, until his voice cords have melted, until his nerves have stopped regenerated. Scott screams until he physically can’t. The pain is unimaginable, and yet he bears it— is forced to bear it. The tears that had streamed down his face had long since evaporated, the pressure of the fire building and building and building inside his eyes until they had popped, the liquid inside cascading down his charred cheeks.
In the first minutes, blistered skin had grown back rapidly with every lick of the flames, but as the pyre grew in size, its fierce heat soaring across his legs, his chest and arms, his head, not even the ancient power in his veins was enough. The layers of his skin were stripped away, peeled back for fat to render and disperse, muscles to shrink and contract, bones to crackle and fracture.
Scott was aware of it all, undying—unliving—being torn down, only to feel the rapidly regrowth of the soft flesh of his neck as it reattached itself to writhing muscles, shredded sinew, warped bones, his scorched, born-anew nerves repaving the path of pain.
Only for it all to start over again. Unending.
He screams again and again, a broken songbird, its wings not clipped but melted.
At first, Scott had mocked the humans—he had taunted them with his immortality. When the torch had been lit, his words had changed, taunts became threats, threats became promises. It did not matter. Wood was set alight, and Scott had burned. His shouts became angry, he started to curse them all. Martyn, Ren, even Pearl, who had protested. But most of all Abolish, who came up with the idea. Scott hated them all regardless, he hated them, but as he burned, as anger made way for pain, and pain made way for fear, that hatred turned into desperation instead.
Scott was afraid.
Not to die, but to never die. To stay ignited until the sun itself burned out, to stay in this endless cycle of pain-fear-grief-desperation until there was nothing left but the ashen remains of memories long incinerated.
He burns for days.
Okay so I actually am going to elaborate onto this, just because I keep thinking about this au! This takes place in an alternative timeline after Legundo was turned into a vampire, and both Owen and Pyro have died, but where they can't leave Oakhurst without either all humans or all vampires dying. The cure either didn't work, or was prevented from working, and the humans won, killing every single vampire. Except for Scott. The stake didn't work, but Abolish knew that wasn't the only way to kill a vampire, so he brought forth the idea to burn Scott on a pyre. And thus Scott burns until they start to run out of wood, and the humans have to accept that he's not going to die, that the only way to leave is as vampires.
Scott is taken from the pyre and killed so he can respawn and heal, but he's obviously not too happy with things. He's hungry, he's still grieving the loss of his coven, and he's angry. So angry. But frankly, killing them all in revenge is not good enough for him. In exchange for turning them, he demands one death as a sacrifice. Pearl would volunteer, but Scott will not accept that, and instead to punish Martyn, he wants Ren to die. And to save Martyn, Ren accepts. So Ren gets drained and dies, Pearl gets turned, Scott either tries to turn Martyn but he dies because of Apo's blood in his system, or because he was Apo's sire, Martyn does survive and has to live with the guilt of Ren's death, and then... Abolish. Before he turns him, Scott wants Abolish's word that he'll never go after Scott, no matter what he does out there, and Abolish has to accept if he wants to leave. So Abolish gets turned, and Scott wants him to regret ever becoming immortal.
When Abolish leaves Oakhurst and gets to his meeting place with Morcant, he doesn't show up at any point, so Abolish returns to the organisation, only to find the town on fire and bodies littering the streets. And when he gets home, he finds Scott with Morcant, who made good use of Abolish's memories to find this place and massacre it. Abolish can leave at any time, but if he wants to save Morcant's life, he has to listen to what Scott has to say. And thus the corruption starts.
Scott has made Morcant his thrall to assure he stays alive and nearby, but he can use him as a tool to punish Abolish, or as a reward, a demonstration, even a plaything, but when Abolish is alone with Morcant, he'll encourage Abolish to work with Scott to try and reduce as much of the damage he will do, but that's exactly what Scott wants. Abolish following his orders, killing innocent people, hunting them down, slowly getting more and more bloodthirsty after every human he kills, getting enjoyment out of drinking human blood the more he consumes, Scott wants Abolish to give in to his dark impulses, to become the very monster he once hunted down. And in the end, decades later, Abolish does, so when Scott tells Morcant to run, and orders Abolish to kill him, well, Abolish won't resist the thrill of the hunt <3
We need more 2006!Pyro, its so funny

AITA for asking my husband to stop posting our interpersonal conflicts on Reddit?
My (29F) husband (36M) and I have been together for almost ten years now and like any couple we occasionally get into arguments. Over the years I've noticed a pattern where the day after an argument he'd either give me an eloquently-phrased apology or, more often, a perfectly logically sound counterargument that completely proves that I was in the wrong. My hubby is an intellectual hunk so I've never thought this was suspicious, but the other day he brought up a counterargument that was so logically airtight that my only response was to laugh and say "Did you get that from Reddit or something?", because even though I don't use Reddit I know the reputation it has for being a center for wit and intellectual debate.
Well, turns out I was right. Every time we've ever gotten into a fight, he's always posted about what happened on r/AmItheAsshole and used the comments he gets to decide what to say the following day. When he told me this, I demanded to see some of these posts and he obliged.
To my surprise, not only has he been posting our arguments on this subreddit, he's been posting them from my perspective, writing them as though I'm the one posting these stories on Reddit from over a hundred different throwaway accounts. He'd always "anonymize" the posts too, apparently changing our relationship, genders, and ages with a random number generator, which is honestly really clever because it preserves our privacy without changing any important details for the purpose of deciding who was right in the argument.
Anyway, I really didn't like that he was basically impersonating me on the internet, but of course I didn't want to admit this to him so I made something up about him "misrepresenting" my side of the argument, even though I know he's a perfectly rational man and that it's impossible for him to be biased when describing things from my perspective. So I told him that he needs to stop putting our interpersonal conflicts on Reddit and "think for himself" (and of course I know that he really is thinking for himself but sometimes my womanly emotions cause me to say things I don't really mean. Fortunately he's always able to see through that and understand exactly what I meant to say every time.) but he refused, saying he doesn't think he did anything wrong. And then like always he got really quiet for the rest of the night and we haven't really talked since.
So, Reddit, am I the asshole?

I like that this episode gave the audience nowhere to hide from who Caleb used to be
with the campaign, there was a degree of separation between the audience and what Caleb was describing. the simple nature of the show's format provided the audience tacit permission to downplay and soften Caleb's story, even while Caleb himself tries to impress on everyone that he believed in what he did. ("It was a good time. We believed in the Empire, we were going to keep it strong. He was cruel. He hurt us a lot. Made us go through extreme circumstances, but we got strong." / "He made you executioners?" "We wanted to be.")
the animation provides no such luxury. we are given graphic, up-close depictions of the kinds of things Bren did to people as a Volstrucker. the camera lingers on the violence. nowhere to hide. that's also why it's so important that they removed the false memory Trent gave Bren and replaced it with the trio simply taking him at his word.
what happened to Bren was a horror and a tragedy, and the show makes you look at it, really look at it. it says "don't look away. this is what was done to him. this is what he did. this is what he believed in. will you accept him still?"
