Garbled convo with a friend about The War Z and Day Z
Convo began in response to the RE6 demo which was released on LIVE and PSN.-
Jay - I get the feeling RE fans will dig it, but yeah, not so much for me. Still waiting for that truly great zombie game.
Me - I was hoping that War Z was going to be that game but for something that was supposedly in development before Day Z, it looks like a blatant ripoff with a Dead Island-style hud. Well, menu screen, not hud.
Jay - Haven't checked those out yet. Dead Island is the closest I've played.
I always pictured the perfect zombie game in the same style as a Bethesda game. Open world, first person. Zombies existing in the world but not being the focus. You just have to deal with them when you venture from one safety area to the next to progress the story.
Me - I actually said something similar to a friend, I'm just shocked no one made a zombie mod of some sort in relationship to Fallout 3. The War Z and Day Z are both PC titles while the latter was a mod which is also being re-released as a standalone title while still having the servers that support the original mod stay up when it's released... at least the creator of the mod stated that to the press, but time shall tell. The graphics aren't that great and if you Youtube the titles you can definitely see way TOO much likeness between them. I think War Z had an idea but scrapped it after seeing Day pull off the popularity without being the best thing to depict a zombie apocalypse, survival being the main focus.
Jay - Fallout is the perfect example, but a little less nuclear apocalypse and more viral apocalypse.
Me - I could see if they took the urban portions of Fallout/New Vegas and just tidied them up a little, they could simply make a decent enough model to make this happen! It's just sad that it probably won't happen as a standalone game but a mod someone either catches on to or makes some kind of COD map for.. though the Zombies campaign or section of the game is getting it's own separate storyline or what have you for Black Ops 2. Still need to see more on The Walking Dead title that Activision will probably blunder on.

Ya, I'm a geek, sorry for the convo snippet but it felt good to converse about, ya know? I just get those moments where I want to write on end about something awesome and what feels thought provoking. Cheap thrills, noble reader, cheap thrills.
get it. play it. love it.
seriously better than the original and worth a rent at least, legit. i'll write more in detail when i have time to!
Not sure about this.. looks like it's the comparable size of a Sega Nomad from back in the day with the add-on.
Backpack needed, indeed.
Have to say a thank you to IGN for sharing these gems of fanmade video content in tribute to FF7! And obviously a very big thank you to Jamie aka TheJamster1992 for making them! Enjoy!

A little trip back to everyone's favorite resort island..
With the imminent release of Dead Island: Riptide just around the corner, presumably in the near future, I decided it was time to get some Dead Island play in!
Let me tell you, its been about a year since I've last played this sleeper hit published by Deep Silver and let me tell you, it still doesn't disappoint! Some improvements being made from it's initial release with the addition of fixed physics, game-breaking glitches and even a lively online experience. (The game is drawing players from all over the world, still!)
I find myself still dreading the somewhat endless hordes of the undead and even worse, those bastards, the butchers.
If you didn't or haven't given this game a shot, I think it's worth one now with the game of the year edition showing for $40 or less at this point to help amp up the release for it's next installment, Dead Island: Riptide.
If you like RPG elements, making custom weapons, killing yourself some of the undead and other monstrosities this game is definitely worth a glance/rent, it does high replay value by the way.
If you've already played and liked it, the follow-up is currently available for pre-order at most retailers, online or otherwise. GameStop Canada has even been reported to be releasing a collectable case upon pre-order, as well as on their website, no word on the U.S. retail version yet.
I'm still curious as to when the Riptide will be released, most sites stating the usual '12/31/13' release or 'TBA' but with that case release, one can only assume it'll be out shortly to shock and awe us like the original. I just hope that it doesn't disappoint, all I can say. Till next time, keep your wits about you and game on!

After A Decent-sized Chunk of time, I'm Back!
With the only things I took away from the broadcasting of E3 yesterday.. (totally missed Sony's conference... damn!)
But from playing some catch up I was able to come up with this..
Watch Dogs, Beyond: Two Souls and The Last of Us...definitely awesome. Insane games, just wow.. oh and some MS apps, all I got to take away from E3 for yesterday... hopefully, Nintendo has something impressive instead of their tablet/controller/tablet.. maybe they'll team up with Android for some kind of crazy integration since everyone else seemingly has their things.. though HTC runs on that platform, highly unlikely that other phones will share the same kind of functionality with Sony's network.
This is a good time to get into some AAA titles if you have the money in the upcoming year till the next gen consoles start to officially poke their heads out of the depths from which all things come. To see the elegance and genius being created, this is a grand time in gaming and what can be considered an artform in entertainment!
Giantbomb, IGN, and CheapAssGamer were three of the streams I had been watching today.. aside from a little hickup here or there, it wasn't bad at all! Xbox LIVE's stream wasn't bad either, shockingly. I definitely recommend hitting them up for anymore information on the titles that I had stated above... I'd go into detail about each one but honestly, I just got off work an hour ago and shit's rough.
(Yes, I know I could've listed some other titles but what was good had already been known aside from some AC3 boat battling and such..some titles or 'advances' weren't really too great for me to recognize at this time.)
RIP Steve Jobs, February 24, 1955-died October 5, 2011. You were a neat son of a bitch.. almost working till the end.. damn that's a good work ethic!
But honestly, he will be missed, thoughts go out to his friends and family.
Rage..so far.
Revisions will be made as I play through, sorry for any inconvenience!
First 10 mins:
Pretty, haha. Sounds like John Goodman is your main greeter. But seriously, awesome graphics.
20 mins in:
Not sure how I feel about this defibrillator.. almost died twice, once being the initial tutorial/intro to.. but using the joysticks and triggers to resuscitate in a semi-minigame style, kind of takes away and gives a little to the game, will have to see if there's any kind of payback from dying a lot. (SAVE OFTEN, the game even tells you to.)
Aiming isn't too hard, but the loose(PC-esque) controls make it feel like you may fly through some shells/rounds before you get the hang of it. I'm not really too great on aiming till I either fine tune or get the hang of things though, but be warned, take whatever steps you see fit to your style of shooting.
MAKE SURE to double-tap if necessary, found a couple enemies falling down to only shoot me while half-sprawled on the floor. Seems to take three pistol rounds and one well-placed shotgun shells to put someone down. Damage seems to be location sensitive at times, torso/headshots obviously being most desired.
Just got put down, options being between last checkpoint and last saved game aside from the gemeral menu options.
Multplayer
So after my dabbling in the first mission, with my current time/work constraints, I thought I'd try multiplayer. First thing I noticed is that you have to get up, since you have to drop in the 3rd disc for multi(on 360), no biggy but if you like to switch things up.. maybe? Options on this menu, 'Road Rage', 'Wasteland Legends' and 'Play with Friends'. They definitely added some depth from the start, really makes me wish they'd add something to Fallout in this sense, but no disappointment if they don't.
Road Rage
They have a 'Garage'? and five classes to choose from for vehicles which all definitely resemble 'Death Race' ones, maybe a Statham tie-in?(JK) The first and only open option is 'Scout' while I'm sure after unlocking the others by competition are, 'Enforcer','Outlaw','Executioner' and 'Boss'.
While looking at the vehicle classes and typing this, I got my first achievement,'Fresh Meat' (10G). Didn't technically race but whatever, right? Now playing it... say hello to the multiplatform version of 'Twisted Metal'! Awesome.

Battlefield 3 Beta.. so far
Not that bad!
Pros-
-Graphics are up where I felt 2 should've had them.
-Tiered(stages) maps are still being used.
-Still fun.
Cons-
-Though the graphics are better, things such as shrubbery and branches can still be pixelated, though penetrable.
-Doesn't seem to push/utilize communication.(A gripe to me since I try to alert my team whenever an enemy is somewhere they shouldn't be or if we're getting flanked, etc.)
-Leveling still takes time.
So, overall it is a polished version of the second game. Massive levels are there for the conquering as long as you have the team to do so, as in most team based shooters. But I kept finding myself being ignored by my squad mates to see them getting shot down just seconds after I located a sniper.. aside from using fireteams as spawn points, why not listen a little when it can be beneficial?
Custom guns are there for the making and stealing off of enemy corpses. Sadly with the limited amount in the beta, I found myself having to scavenge for better weapons since they didn't give any options there till you leveled up. I hope they at least give the fans in the full version some choices!
Same four classes and so on otherwise though. This one will probably do well either way, but I don't think it'll topple Call of Duty, maybe challenge it but still.
