I commissioned a piece from @mzuul because I've always wanted a piece of art from one of my fics, and because they are one of my favourite artists in this place. And it is so much better than anything I could have ever imagined. I am so in love 😍 It is perfect.
If you're curious, it is from my fic 'Does This Feeling Flow Both Ways', specifically chapter 10. Which might be my favourite chapter of anything I've ever written, because it is just... ridiculous.
An excerpt, from the 'moment' of this picture:
He felt the sharp intake of breath that Draco took through his chest. Draco had turned his head to look at him in surprise, and with Harry resting his chin on his shoulder, it put them very close together. It wouldn’t take much for either of them to close the distance. He could feel Draco’s breath ghosting over his face, sweet still from the tea.
Harry was all too aware that he was staring at Draco’s lips again. They were full and perfect and slightly parted already from Draco’s excitement. Harry’s eyes flickered up to Draco’s, and he had to suppress another groan, because his pupils were blown wide. Black eating into grey. And Draco seemed to be staring just as intently at Harry’s lips.
Fuck. I can't. Be back at some point when my brain starts functioning again, until then I will just stare lovingly at this until I expire.

This is so out of context, but maybe that's the point of all of this lol The last thing I was working on is an original work mm hockey romance. Because I've been reading nothing but that since HR came out, and it has invaded my brain.
Cole recognizes the twins, even though he’s never met them in person and only seen them across the ice a couple times a year. It’s a pretty rare thing for two siblings to play in the NHL together, let alone on the same team, and for them to be twins? Almost unheard of.

I realized that I got sucked back into hockey, right off the deep end, and maybe that's not what everyone signed up for.
So I made a side blog.

I'm going to go with @kuchisabishiiiiii on this one. I think the Seattle Kraken have sick jerseys. But I do love the simplicity of the leafs jerseys (classic 😎).

I have maaaaaany. I think typography and graphic design is so interesting. But these are some of my favourites over the years.
7. Best color schemes?
I've always loved Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks colours. Also the old Anaheim Mighty Ducks colours, not this current orange BS that makes them look like pylons. Orange is an Alberta or Isles thing, imo. But I'd list Seattle Kraken on there now as well.
8. One (1) team you want to see in person?
Leafs. Always. Too bad their tickets are the most expensive in the league 😭 Haven't been to a leafs game in like 15 years. I did get to a Marlies game over the break though! 🥳
I would really love to go to a Team Canada game some time. Olympics would be nuts (and totally out of my price range), but I would 'settle' for a WJC game.
9. What is the best goal song?
Oooooo again, a couple. We'll go with this season again.
I like Boston's. Zombie Nation is classic.
Calgary's, AC/DC. Also classic.
I like the EDM vibes of the Panthers (but fuck the Panthers 👀 sorry, not sorry) and the Canadiens for the same reason (yay Habs!). Pumps you up. Utah Mammoth same reasons.
I love the Sharks one, Power Bite. Appropriately named lol Also great.
Kraken having Nirvana is sick af. It soothes my old adolescent grunge soul.
LEAFS, obvs. I like Van Halen and all, but I prefer the DUP DUP one. I do miss when they used to come out onto the ice to 'Enter Sandman' though.

If we're talking analysis, I love Kevin Bieksa (and his tight shirts hahaha I love that they were ribbing him about it). And Ron MacLean remains the best 'moderator', if you want to call him that.
11. Favorite rookie?
Easton Cowan! (Cowboy really coming into his own).
Yaroslav Askarov (Asky, too brave sometimes lol But I love it). Dennis Hildeby (Been so impressed with him).

12. Have you been to a game?
A handful of leafs games (as mentioned, way too expensive/out of my budget). But not in a long time sadly. A few Marlies games, more budget friendly lol I also went to a Caps game while visiting a friend in the US. Good times.
13. Do you have anything given to you from a player? Or anything signed by a player?
I have two signed things. Nothing's been given to me.
1) I used to work in the restaurant industry, and Mike Green (while he was with the Caps still) sat in my section. I debated asking him for his autograph for a long time because I didn't want to bother him. I did end up asking at the end before he left. It's just on some receipt paper hahaha He was nice about it.
2) Me and a friend went to Montréal to visit some other hockey friends. We had just gone to the Habs store and I bought a Mike Komisarek name/number shirt. Like an hour later we were getting a coffee to warm up near the arena (Montréal winters are hell), and we ran into Chris Higgins in the coffee shop!
We got some pics with him and he signed some stuff. The only thing I had on me was that Komisarek shirt, so I turned it around and got him to sign the front of it with the Habs logo. He flipped it over and gave me a look when he read the back of it and saw it wasn't his name hahaha I was like 'sorry dude, this wasn't really planned, you know?' Got a smile. He was really nice about us disrupting his day too.
14. Have you met a player?
See above.
A bunch of the Leafs used to come into the restaurant I worked at as well, but I didn't serve any of them (was too shy to say hello at that point). Still cool to see them in the wild though.
15. Underrated players in your opinion?
Strictly from a Leafs perspective, I would have to go with Nicholas Robertson.
I've always loved the less show-y, grinder type players who just go out and give it 100% every shift. I appreciate that about him. Is he the best? No. Does it look like he's always trying his best? Absolutely.
Bobby McMann, Scott Laughton, and Troy Stecher for the same reasons.
I also love Ryan Reaves on the Sharks (sorry the Leafs let you go, dude). The guy is hilarious. And it seems like he's a great presence in the room, just keeps everyone laughing/in good spirits. The 'I was just wishing him a happy new year' thing with Tampa had me rolling.
16. Favorite captains?
Ovi!!! Hands down. Guy has won like every award a player could earn, and not just for points/goals, but for being a great guy. Not only is he the top goal scorer of all time now, but he was so fucking entertaining to watch do it. Oh captain, my captain ❤️
Other favs would be: Auston Matthews (obviously), Sidney Crosby, Nick Suzuki, and Jordan Eberle.
17. Favorite trades in the previous season and/or current season?
I like the Sharks picking up Orlov and Klingberg in FA (not really a 'trade', but w/e).
Dakota Joshua to Toronto from the Canucks. I think he's gonna be a good fit, and I hope he gets well soon.
Troy Stecher on waivers from Edmonton (again not a 'trade' but movement). You guys crazy or what?
18. Least favorite trades in the previous season and/or current season?
Mitch Marner for Nicolas Roy. I like Roy well enough, but what the actual fuck? I think this was foolish. I'm still mad about it.
19. How did you get into hockey?
My dad was born and raised in Europe, so we were mostly a soccer/fußball household. The World Cup was a very big deal. We were put into soccer at like age 5? When all you do is follow the ball around with zero strategy. We were once camping during the WC and my dad woke me up at dawn to drive his boat into the nearest town that was showing the game so we could watch it. Unhinged.
But! He also used to watch the Leafs play on occasion (particularly Saturdays and HNIC). And I would watch it with him. My sister had zero interest. And at some point it sank in that I liked this fast, brutal sport. It probably helped that a lot of the players were good looking. And at some point, I overtook him in my enthusiasm and soon it was me forcing him to watch every game with me, helping him with his fantasy draft picks, going to the occasional live game. Watching the Leafs play all week and on Saturdays, and then also staying up late to watch whichever Canadian western conference team was playing.
I think the true mania set in when I was about twelve? I remember them buying me a Gary Roberts jersey for Christmas around then.
I really wanted to play at that point, but a) I was a terrible skater, like... truly terrible. Mind you, I'd been forced to learn on uneven frozen lake and figure skates and I found them narrow and uncomfortable. And b) we could not afford it. So, I settled for watching.
I did check out of it for a long time. I got busy with life and work, and because I worked in the restaurant industry I was usually working during games. But I'm back now, and it feels correct. Feels like coming home. I can't watch the games with my dad anymore, but I think about him on Saturdays in particular ❤️
20. If you could put a team in any state or city, where would you put it?
Somewhere on the east coast. I don't think the population is large enough to sustain it, but it would be cool to have a team in like Halifax.
21. Overtime or shootouts?
OT, baby. Shootouts are sometimes fun to watch, but they also turn my guts into knots.
22. Best / favorite arenas?
Biased. But Scotiabank Arena, though it will always be the ACC to me.
Like the vibes of the shark tank though and the saddledome.
23. Best team rivalries to watch?
I love to hate on Ottawa. Forever and always. So I love a good gritty Leafs/Sens game. Also partial to any time the Leafs can make Philly cry (doesn't always go that way), but I love shutting Philly up. Has to be the loudest most obnoxious fan base. Sorry if you're from Philly.
Boston/Montreal is always a treat. Same with Edmonton/Calgary.
24. Do you watch multiple leagues (nhl, pwhl, college, ahl, etc)?
Not really. I will go to the occasional Marlies game, but I don't really follow the AHL. Or any other league for that matter.
25. Offensive duo that you love?
Macklin Celebrini/Will Smith (hockey) (SJ) Pleeeeease get better soon, Smitty. Please.

See above, all the many times I have gushed over other teams' players.

I don't know about 'often', but I think about the 'Golden Goal' in the 2010 Olympics by Crosby from time to time. That was a rush.
I think about the Bertuzzi/Moore situation sometimes too.
Other than that, I don't think of any moments in particular. Just general vibes.
30. One (1) rule that you would change and why?
The trapezoid/'Brodeur' rule. Either make it bigger or take it out.

Noodles, for Jamie McLennan, will always be my favourite. It's so stupid. Bring back ridiculous nicknames!
