MERTHUR WEEK 2023 | Day 4: favourite parallel + green
As protests start ramping up and violence escalates please remember:
DO NOT PUT MILK IN YOUR EYES FOR PEPPER SPRAY OR TEAR GAS.
It can and will cause infection due to bacteria. Flush with water, distilled if possible, and never EVER wear contact lenses to protests where there may be police retaliation.
Please reblog. It may save someone's sight.
I'm going to either find or make my own post about this but I'm a street medic, I was trained by the Black Rose organization medical branch during Occupy and have since done my own research with papers written for and by the cops and military about treating chemical agent exposure. this is correct, please do not use milk. I'm not sure about distilled water because I haven't seen it used in any papers or ok the ground, but my suspicion is that while it is probably not harmful, the osmotic qualities of distilled water may hurt or cause contact damage to the mucus membranes of the eyes. in addition, riot control chemicals are mostly designed to be water-activated and plain water will make the exposure sites hurt worse with minimal benefit besides flushing out any particles that aren't glued on with the oil medium they use for these agents.
in at least one study, the research on tear gas and pepper spray exposure showed that plain water was so painful that most cops who volunteered to be test subjects for treatment trials refused to use it, opting instead to just wait until they could shower or for the chemicals to degrade on their own. this is a pretty important indicator of both cops being mega pussies, and that plain water isn't very effective at treating riot control chemical injuries.
the substance that tested best in multiple trials was sterile buffered saline solution. in other words, the same stuff that comes in the squirt bottles for cleaning your contact lenses. this is a useful tool to carry into a protest because the squirt bottle makes it easy to direct the flow of water over the surface of the eyeball. trials also showed that putting this solution into your eyes prior to exposure cut down on discomfort quite a bit. in practice, this looks like putting in some clean eye drops from the drug store before you are exposed to riot weapons.
remember, if you are injured in a protest, call "medic!" out loud and street medics will find you. this has been standard protest practice for decades.
onions and milk and vinegar should not go in your eyes. I've seen all three recommended for tear gas treatment and I do not think they are a good idea or that they will work. stick to sterile saline or LAW (liquid antacid + water).
consider carrying an osha-approved eyewash bottle for easier application
also, please wear a helmet and buy a gas mask
So long, sleep well my friend.

“but AI art lets me create my OCs!” YOU WILL USE PICREW AS GOD INTENDED
i actually have a list of POC friendly picrews saved so by extension of the focus on inclusivity there’s probably more body type / facial options in these! the ones i’ve personally used from this list have had them. i hope this helps!!!
[plaintext: poc-friendly picrews / end plaintext.] reblogs are appreciated, this will be updated whenever i find more! if you want to sugges
hey pals!! i'm working on a filterable, tagged collection of picrew i like. right now there's about 60 picrew (and other such makers such as
NeedleKind made a filtera ble picrew database with lots of things to filter.
Also! Hero Forge. It's a website mostly for making your DnD characters as minis, but it's an absolutely Great resource for anyone looking to make their oc. It has great options for posing, customization, and just about anything.
Hero Forge® is an online character design application that lets users create and buy customized tabletop miniatures and statuettes.
Don’t use the evil computer program to make art it’s putting artists out of work, instead use this kind noble computer program that makes art. So we hate ai just because it’s trendy to hate ai? Is that what we’re doing?
AI uses learning based on many scraped/stolen artworks. Picrew and Heroforge are essentially fancy paper dolls. Every aspect of them was done by an artist, who has provided them for our use, we're just mix and matching. These things are not remotely the same, friend.
No single line has ever wrecked me as hard as this one from the Good Place and I think about it constantly

now that I’ve been back a while I’m getting the age old “is this okay to reblog” questions on my posts, and I would like to say what I have always said which is that 1. Yes. 2. You should never
Ever
post a single thing on this site that would make you uncomfortable or cause trouble for you if someone shared it elsewhere. Yes, even if you disable reblogs on the post.
It’s not nice, but you have absolutely zero expectation of privacy or containment regarding anything you post to any social media. Even if it’s social media that only your friends can view. It’s still up and out there.
If it would be upsetting or dangerous or just plain awkward for something you post here to show up elsewhere—I cannot stress this enough—Do Not Post It.
Actual roman epitaph for a dog
humans are the same
I’ve seen this one doing the rounds a few times (and it makes me cry every time I see it), but was curious about the original Latin text, so I did some digging: it’s a shortened version of CIL 10, 00659, a tombstone from Salernum (modern Salerno, Italy). (source; CIL is the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum).
Portaui lacrimis madidus te, nostra catella,
Quod feci lustris laetior ante tribus.
Ergo mihi, Patrice, iam non dabis oscula mille
Nec poteris collo grata cubare meo.
Tristis marmorea posui te sede merentem
Et iunxi semper manib(us) ipse meis
Morib(us) argutis hominem simulare paratam,
Perdidimus quales hei mihi delicias.
Tu, dulcis Patrice, nostras attingere mensas
Consueras, gremio poscere blanda cibos,
Lambere tu calicem lingua rapiente solebas,
Quem tibi saepe meae sustinuere manus,
Accipere et lassum cauda gaudente frequenter
And here’s my translation:
Wet with tears I have carried you, our little (female) dog, just as I did in happier times fifteen years earlier (lit. “three periods of five years). For myself, Patrice, now you will not give me a thousand kisses nor will you be able to lie lovingly around/against my neck. I have sorrowfully placed you, merit-worthy, in a marble tomb and I have joined you always to myself in death, as by your cleverness you matched a human. Alas, we lost such pleasures for myself! You, sweet Patrice, were accustomed to join us at our table, to beg charmingly for food (while sitting in our) laps. You were in the habit of greedily licking our cups with your tongue, which my hands often held for you. Frequently and joyfully (you) receive a weary one with your (wagging) tail...
tl;dr: this dog was named Patrice and was very, very loved. (another translation with some glossing of the text.)

Title: A New Trick in an Old Book By: serpentinefiend Gift for: glade_days / @gladedays Rating: G Word Count: 2,684 words Warning(s): None Summary:
When Arthur nobly accepts and promptly fails the not-so-complicated task of delivering a medieval manuscript across campus, it's up to Merlin's apprentice book restoration skills to save the day. Not that Merlin would call helping the handsome student who's been lingering in his library as of late all that arduous a task... Well, for the most part, anyway.

he’s very special to me
Question: in Merlin, do you think that Lancelot sacrificed himself because he promised Gwen he’d look after Arthur or because he knew Merlin was planning to sacrifice himself?
I believe it's a multitude of interconnected reasons.
1. Arthur is his King. As a knight who knows what he's going to do, it's Lance's duty to sacrifice himself.
2. He promised it to Gwen, his Queen and only love, so of course he has to.
3. If Merlin dies, they are all fucking dead within a week.
In my opinion, Lancelot was the only one who had all the information and the only one with an actual choice. Because if Merlin had sacrificed himself, He'd kept Arthur save and also kept his promise. 1+2, done, no regrets whatsoever.
Arthur was duty bound due to his position as King. Merlin was honor bound due to destiny. Although both can be admired, none of them actually weighted their options.
Lancelot made a free choice. And I think that's what made him the "most noble" of them all. Lancelot didn't do it for anyone. He did it for Camelot and what was best for it and also for himself.
I've made a post before on Arthur's relationship with Gwen and how it differs from his relationship with Merlin. And Gwen's love always relating to Camelot's future plays a huge part here. THIS is why she had loved Lance. Because Lancelot cared about Camelot. That man wanted to die for his home and he'd chosen the best timing.
Lance died for his home, his king, his love and his friend.
Honestly, I think Lancelot would have been great at gambling.
unfortunately i Do feel better when i clean my living space and eat enough fruits and veggies and go outside and generally remember i am a mammal :| real pity that knowing this does not make it easier to do those things
Do you ever think of how, to Arthur, Merlin is a clumsy, idiot of a servant with no care for tradition, but he makes Arthur laugh and gives the best advice and somehow, without Arthur even noticing, has become his best friend in the entire world, the person he wants to face every battle with, not only so he can protect Merlin but also so he can have Merlin’s support and approval
And then it turns out that Merlin doesn’t need protecting, and he’s the most powerful sorcerer to exist, he has magic, and has actually been the one protecting Arthur this entire time
And Arthur has to face their entire relationship being turned upside down, because okay you have magic, he’s had his suspicions about magic not being evil for a while now and of course Merlin isn’t evil, but it’s more how dare you not tell me, after I’ve came to you for everything and I thought you did too, I thought I noticed when things were wrong and put a smile on your face but this whole time you’ve not trusted me
And in a matter of hours he has to relearn their entire friendship and try to understand why Merlin has done this and why he keeps doing this and make sure that everything else about our friendship is true please say the rest was true
And by the end, because he is dying and the end is so very near, it doesn’t matter anymore because he is Arthur and he is Merlin and it doesn’t matter that they’re also the Once and Future King of Camelot and Emrys the Most Powerful Sorcerer Ever to Live
No, they’re just Merlin and Arthur in their last few minutes together and they both know it and this is his last chance so it’s not you betrayed me and I need time and how could you do this to us, instead it’s it’s okay and hold me and thank you because if this is his last chance to protect Merlin then of course he is going to take it, that’s always been his job and neither death nor magic is going to change that
