Anyone else think that the series shld have ended in the Sothern Water Tribe instead of Ba Sing Se?
We started this whole journey there, with Katara and Sokka, alone and arguing. What if it ended with a party under the setting sun, as the Summer ends and the story comes to a close; and they're surrounded by their friends.
Walk with me, but imagine that wrecked Fire Nation ship, but salvaged, stripped of all its weapons of war and decorated in all four colours. Katara and Sokka sit out on the stern and watch the water, he makes a joke and Katara splashes him over the head. That's when Aang joins them. They sit together for a while, just the three of them, before Suki comes over, followed by Toph (who hates the cold but appreciates the big metal ship). Finally, Zuko appears, and the set is complete.
They look out at the sunset and muse about what they're going to do next. Zuko wants to go looking for his mother when things are more settles, Katara promises to go with him when that time comes (putting a hand on her necklace as she does). In the meantime she's going to see what else she can learn about waterbending (perhaps she's going to seek out Hama?). Suki is going back to her warriors; Sokka says he's going to see what else he can build. In contrast, Toph says she's going to see what she can break ("there's plenty of leftover tanks and things just waiting to be bent into statues of us.") Aang... Doesn't know, because this is the first time he's had the choice. They won, and they're alive. He figures that's enough for him for now.
Nobody kisses, they just sit and watch the sun over the ice. One of them comments on how beautiful it all is. Toph says she's seen better, and they share a collective groan.
