why transracial is valid
Race is a social construct. Decades ago, Italian people were not considered white in the united states. Neither were the Irish. The distinctions between what makes you one race over the other is completely arbitrary. Not biological.
Mixed race people exist, so the boundaries between the races are not as strict as you think.
In fact, to reduce POC down to their heritage, lineage, DNA, or oppression is offensive and reductive. If that’s your only tie to your race, I feel sorry for you! POC have rich and beautiful cultures, not to mention resiliency!
I would even argue that I, a transracial person, am more Chinese than someone who was born Chinese because I had to fight for my culture and the right to be recognized as such. You were just born into it. You think that makes you special? And I know more Mandarin than some ABCs so...
Passing as your racial identity is easy. Non transracial people, such as Taylor Lautner and Pete Wentz have been able to pass as Native American and white respectively. Makeup, surgery, and/or a few styling tips, are very effective ways of coping with race dysphoria.
If a trans woman looks like a woman, she fills the social role of a woman, therefore making her a woman. If Taylor Lautner looks Native American, he will be treated as such and have the same experiences as assigned Native American at birth (ANAAB) people, making him Native American. The same thing is true of transracial people.
Thank you for reading, and I hope I have explained my identity a little bit better. As always, please be respectful and read my about for more info. <3
