Shout out to Mr. Luke in sixth grade who looked at the drawing of a dragon with some algebra in the margins I turned in for my math notes because that’s what I’d put down during lecture, then looked at my perfect test scores and said

“Hey how about TWO notebooks so your math notes don’t mess up your dragons?”

Through a strange twist of scheduling, my younger brother and I had several high school classes together. Since seating was alphabetical, we were always seated next to each other, and we’re both ADHD AF. We rapidly got in the habit of doing collaborative sketches in one of our notebooks while the other one was actually used for taking notes. Our teachers discovered that if they could ignore us sliding notebooks between our two desks every two minutes (the time limit we sent on sketch ‘turns’), we focused much, much better than either of us would have alone.  Because then we constantly had to be paying attention to what the current drawing was, what the lecture was saying enough to pick up note-taking again, and how much time was passing, and that was pretty much enough input to keep us zoned in for hours.
