my favorite thing in the entire world is fiction that takes the concept of "space ship" to its literal extreme i'm not even exaggerating that shit rocks
pics that make you yearn for a life in a universe that only exists in your daydreams
pics that make you wish Treasure Planet was a more appreciated movie
You cry and cry all the time

This is so beautiful 😭❤️
wish i was snuggling not struggling
you ever read a fanfic and just sit back and think...someone wrote something THIS good... and then just....published it on the internet....for free.....
this felt important enough to share
It’s me
look, i dont care what directors say in behind-the-scenes or interviews, if they dont present that information in the film, they are bad story tellers. like, we had to assume everyone attended your comiccon panel? like? no. you are bad at story telling. if a character appears with zero context, it is confusing. i am not saying spoon feed the audience, but goddamn, there are plot devices that should be there to explain why that character showed up. not just information from your twitter. i shouldnt have to absorb five layers of media for your film to make sense
PREACH
My old friend, my companion, and my brother in arms
We also grew up with both cassette tapes and CDs which are the musical equivalent…
This is why there’s a whole generation that never throws out obsolete electronics. We lived through about 5 years which rolled out dozens of new universal formats and universal connectors.
I am in love w the way pre 2000s films have that hazy feel to them. hd honestly kills the vibe
I think that’s one of the reasons why “period” media that’s marketed off the Aesthetic sometimes bothers me…….like they get the music, the clothing, the cars……and yet it always feels like something is missing
like,
vs
or even compare the early x files to the reboot
something is just lost with the crispness
someone in the tags said early spn vs new supernatural and tbh 100% yes !!
vs
I never realized how much I missed the grainy undersaturated filing …… “good lighting” and sharpness strike again
Seasons 1-3 were shot on 35mm film
4-15 were all shot on digital cameras, a change that the network insisted on
Yeah the exact thing that changed is that all the old stuff was recorded on film and all the new stuff was recorded on digital media.
i was going to say the film thing and the someone brought up supernatural and i was like “nah” and then @aphony-cree out here dropping that bomb…. in *2005,* to *2008?* there was a show shooting on film???? god you guys MOST shows went though this transition in the 90s how the fuck was SPN on FILM
In the 2000s dramatic shows had a good shot of convincing networks to let them use film. The network still had film cameras they’d bought and maybe hadn’t gotten enough use out of before the switch to digital. Most dramas can’t be shot entirely in the studio, they need to go on location, so it made sense to let them use the older cameras while the new expensive digital cameras stayed in the studio where they were safer
Supernatural wanted the 35mm film aesthetic and hated when they were forced to switch to digital
They just recently released a 4K version of Lord of the Rings and they’re so Crisp. None of those soft fantasy vibes
We don’t need to see every fucking covered pimple on the actors face. It’s actually takes away from their performance because I can’t focus on them but their face
sometimes ‘better’ is worse
That wasnt even just touch ups, that changed the entire coloring which changes the mood and the feel!! How do you fuck up so badly????
The blue version of LOTR will always be the true version.
This is why I hate, hate, hate, HATE the 2003 print of The Wizard of Oz so much. They just kinda slapped a sharpness filter on it and called it good.
Thing is, The Wizard of Oz was shot on film that is objectively garbage. It was in the early days of mass-market movies, it was one of the first films to be shot in color (it was literally one of the first 30 filmed that way), like we didn’t know shit yet about how to make film. It was heavy, brittle, extremely flammable, and you could damage it by looking at it cross-eyed. But the filming crew knew this. And so they used that to their advantage. Here’s an example. I pulled both these screenshots off YouTube, because I refuse to have the abomination that is the 2003 print or 4K rerelease in my house and I’m still waiting for a restored version rather than a remastered version, but, uh. Autistic. Special interest. I gotcha covered.
So I’m 90% sure the screenshot below is from the 1989 50th anniversary. What I want you to look at specifically is that field behind Dorothy, and where her feet are.
You can see that the backdrop is painted if you look at it for a bit, but it’s not super-obvious where the line is unless you stare at it for awhile. This shot in motion is rather quick and also the munchkins are providing a lot of movement, so your eyes are going to skate right over it. And the perspective tricks with the painting are good enough that, again, in motion, you don’t really register that it’s a painting.
This bullshit is the 2003 print.
It’s extremely obvious now that whole backdrop is painted. And you can see exactly where the backdrop meets the floor. You can also start to see details that shouldn’t be at all obvious, like how they switched paint colors for the Yellow Brick Road. (Look just above Dorothy’s hand.) And don’t even get me started on the guard in the tower and how the brightness filter makes that red coat super-distracting from what we’re supposed to be looking at, which is Dorothy waving goodbye.
(And if you think this is bad? You should see the 4K release. Except don’t do that. I saw it and wanted to cry. What the fuck did they do to Oz.)
This movie shouldn’t be in HD or 4K. It wasn’t meant to be in HD or 4K. In fact it was specifically designed with the limitations of its own time period in mind, and trying to apply modern film technique to it damages the original creative intent. Literally the only way to remove the bumps and warts from this movie isn’t to slap it in 4K and say it’s “better,” it’s to give it the Labyrinth 30th Anniversary treatment: go back in with an airbrush and lovingly, carefully go frame-by-frame to edit those areas where higher screen resolutions make things like the flying monkeys’ suspension wires more obvious. They used the low film quality to their advantage to mask that shit! You can’t just sharpen it all up and call it “better!” You have to look at the original creative intent and sometimes that means just leaving shit alone!
@marrow-bone
adhd is having super amplified introspection yet zero self-awareness or decision making skills. i literally never stop overthinking absolutely everything but if you ask me how i am? i dont know. am i enjoying myself? i dont know. my opinion? i dont know. my favorite? i dont know. am i lying? i dont know. do i want this? i dont know. trust my gut feeling? it changes every second. which of these is better? i cant breathe. just pick one? eating glass would hurt less
fuck it. be creative even if you never really *make* anything. write out plot synopses of stories and then move on. design OCs you'll never use. make mood boards and concept art and don't do anything with them. life's too short to forget everything that inspired you and creation doesn't have to be "complete" to be worth the time you put into it.
AU where Padme is a Jedi and Ahsoka is her padawan.
I’ll have the fic on your desk by Monday
The best part is the fact that Anakins not even like a tactful senator. He’s super popular but he and Padme have the exact same negotiation styles as they do in the normal canon
Senator: *starts insulting someone Anakin loves*
Anakin: *pulls out a gun on the Senate floor* say it again
Ahsoka always gets this wolfish grin on her face whenever she and Padme are assigned to protect Anakin because sure, Padme occasionally gets into aggressive negotions but mostly is pretty calm. Anakin, though?
Padme: Really, Ahsoka, I don’t see why you’re so eager for a dull bodyguard assingment with Anak—uh, Senetor Skywalker.
Ahsoka: The last time we were supposed to have a “dull assignment” with Skywalker he called Grievous “dooku’s punk clanker bitch” and blew up half his fleet.
Padme: I’m aware. I’m the one who had to duel Grievous while you held Skywalker back.
Ahsoka: And it was dope.
I offer this hasty sketch to this god-tier au
I am IN THIS for the God Tier Obi Wan and Padme booze and bitch sessions with meditation breaks and sobbing.

anyone else wanna hug astronaut Reid Wiseman and weep?
I wake up. I consume media. I wish my life was different. I make no effort to change it. I consume more media. I go to sleep.
society went downhill when u stopped being able to go on youtube and look up “[show] season 1 episode 1” and getting the full episode broken up into parts but otherwise completely intact and it had every single episode
