Drarry Drabble
100 words from one of my many WIPs
Draco’s voice is small when he says, “I have to tell you something that might make you hate me.”
“I could—“ never, Harry wants to tell his husband, but he can’t. It would be a lie and they both know it.
Draco looks at Harry then. His eyes are filled with so much agony and self loathing that Harry aches for him. He can tell that Draco knows exactly how that sentence was going to end, and why it didn’t.
He rushes to fix it. “I’ll forgive you. I’ll always forgive you.” It’s true. For them, there was nothing truer.
Show some respect, people.
THANK YOU
The story of Balto is interesting. He led a team of sled dogs across the Alaskan wilderness in the dead of winter with diphtheria antitoxins to stop an outbreak in Nenana Alaska. Diphtheria is a deadly infectious disease that could wipe out a third of a town’s population. It is mostly unknown to the public today because of vaccines. Balto’s body is preserved in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
He’s a big hero of mine!
Let’s not forget Togo! Who, at 12 years old during the serum run, lead his team 200 miles through much more dangerous conditions during the first leg of the journey before Balto ran the last 55-mile stretch.
Togo and Balto didn’t bust their asses for dying children for you to turn around and not vaccinate your damn kids
The actual story is fascinating.
The town of Nome, situated in Western Alaska, was a relative hub for even smaller communities in the region, but in winter was utterly cut off from… nearly everywhere. The harbour iced over in winter, there were no roads connecting it anywhere else, the nearest railroad line was nearly 700 miles (1000+ kilometres) away in Nenana. Air travel was still new at the time and planes couldn’t handle the inclement winter weather.
In 1924, the community had a single doctor and a few nurses who served approximately 10 000 people, including large Eskimo populations in the area (the town itself had a population of roughly 1000 people - bear in mind how few children lived in this community when you see the casualty counts). He had realized his diphtheria vaccine stock was expired and had ordered more from mainland USA months earlier. When it failed to arrive on the final ship of the season, he was a little concerned, but diphtheria was fairly rare, and he figured he’d just restock in the spring.
Of all the rotten luck, January 1925 was when a diphtheria outbreak hit the region.
There was a scramble, in the mainland USA as well as Alaska, to find a way to get the vaccine to this town in the middle of winter. There were attempts to fly a vaccine supply over, but the planes were grounded by storms. This was part of the United States in the 1920s. There was no way to get there.
Except by sled dogs, running the vaccine from that train station in Nenana, 674 miles away. Over 1000 kilometres away, in the dead of winter in Alaska, by 20 mushers (mostly native Athabaskans) and 150 sled dogs running in relay, switching off at tiny villages and rest stations along the way. It was bitterly cold. As in, -85°F (-60°C) at the coldest. There were blizzards, hurricane force winds, and at some points visibility was so poor the men couldn’t see their dogs in front of them.
No man or beast should have been out in that. You freeze in seconds if you’re not moving. Multiple dogs died from being run so hard in such cold weather. Mushers grappled with hypothermia and frostbite. One needed hot water poured over his frozen hands because he was frozen to his sled. Another’s face was black with frostbite. Some strapped themselves up and lead their packs when their lead dogs collapsed.
This relay team traveled 674 miles in 5.5 days. Togo and his owner, Leonhard Seppala, did by far the longest and most dangerous run, travelling over 260 miles (about 420 kilometres) including the initial travel to his pickup spot. Gunnar Kaasen and his lead dog, Balto, did the final 53 miles (85 kilometres) into Nome, where they were greeted as heroes.
Prior to the vaccine arriving in Nome, 5-7 children officially died of diphtheria, with dozens of confirmed cases who may well have died without treatment - but it’s suspected the surrounding Indigenous communities were much harder hit, with numbers impossible to confirm.
When you think that this happened less than 100 years ago, how desperate this community was for a vaccine, how much these mushers risked and lost to get it to this town as fast as they possibly could…
I wonder what they’d think of people today.
(this is the Iditarod. this trek to deliver vaccines was so important, that we immortalized it the way we immortalized the marathon.)
My favorite trope will always, ALWAYS be mind control fighting. Like when Person A is being mind controlled by whatever source and is forced to try to hurt Person B. But Person B will do everything in their power not to hurt Person A.
Bonus points if they come out of it at the last second right before they kill Person B

Excerpt from a fanfic I'll never write
"Draco, please," Harry said. "It meant nothing. She meant nothing to me." His hair was a mess from tugging his hands through it so many times. His green eyes pleaded with Draco as they stared into his own gray ones with a desperation nearly palpable.
If Draco were to pinpoint the moment his heart broke, it would be then. Not earlier that morning when he learned of Harry's affair, not after work when he confronted Harry, not moments before when Harry had said the words aloud, confessing to Draco's worst nightmare. It wasn't later that evening when Draco walked away from the conversation, not the next few nights he spent alone for the first time in years on Pansy's sofa, not a week later when he broke up with Harry, not even when they signed the divorce papers months down the road, officially disentangling their lives once and for all after nearly a decade of marriage. No, if he had to narrow it down to one specific time, it would be then. As he stared at Harry's expression filled with panic and shame listening to him admit that he threw away years of love and devotion for something meaningless.
Draco cleared his throat. When the telltale lump of unshed tears didn't dissipate, he spoke around it, without breaking the eye contact. "Clearly neither did I nor our relationship."
"Draco, that's not true!" Harry reached for him but he stepped just out of reach. "We were fighting— I was angry— I was hurt and-and drunk and I wanted to hurt you, to get your attention."
"Well, you certainly succeeded." Draco couldn't bear to look at him any longer, couldn't listen to any more of his words. He turned to leave.
"I love you! You know I love you!" Harry called from behind him. He followed Draco all the way to the Floo, begging as he did so. "Please, Draco! Please don't go. Just stay, fight it out with me. We fight all the time. Just fight this out with me. Please! I love you. I'm sorry." Harry's voice cracked on the last five words. It was the first time he'd apologized since Draco had confronted him.
Draco froze in his tracks. He wanted the words to be enough. He wanted to be able to forgive his husband. He wanted to be able to fix it. For a split second, he wondered if they could be enough, if he could make them be enough.
But he knew they never would be. He knew nothing would ever be enough. "I love you too, Harry," Draco stated. Then he left.
Happy Birthday Draco
Draco hadn't wanted to do anything for his birthday other than the traditions he and Pansy had started the year after they finished school. It was the first time Draco had to spend his birthday without his parents, and despite his denial, Pansy could tell he desperately needed a pick-me-up. So being the world's greatest best friend—a title she deemed herself worthy of—she came to his new apartment with a muggle DVD player and movies. Thus beginning a new tradition of muggle movie marathons in their pajamas with a variety of junk food every year on Draco's birthday.
Today, however, Pansy came over to his flat without movies or snacks or even pajamas. He was already popping popcorn and wearing his comfiest sleep wear, his hair still wet and unstyled from his shower. When he saw her state of unpreparedness, he was immediately suspicious. Even more so when she began insisting he get dressed, stating she had a special birthday surprise for him.
She helped him pick out an outfit with no hints as to where they were going. She dressed him as if they were going out on a Friday night, all dark colors and flattering fitted clothes. She wore a short black dress herself with fishnet tights and knee-high boots. He styled his hair and did his make up while Pansy dug through his closet in search of shoes. She threw a pair at him for him to put on so they could leave. He caught them just before they hit him in the head.
The street she Apparated them both to was familiar though Draco couldn't quite figure out why. "Pansy, where are we going?" Draco called as the brunette dragged him by his arm, pulling him down a busy street.
"Just trust me!" She answered, not even looking back at him.
Draco stumbled and almost face planted into the concrete sidewalk. Annoyed, he pulled out of her grasp and crossed his arms over his chest. But when he opened his mouth to speak, he realized where they were.
Pansy groaned and turned back to face him. "Would you just come on!"
Draco squared his shoulders. "No. Not until you tell me why we're here when we should be at home watching movies and eating sweets and popcorn."
Pansy rolled her eyes. "Look, just come inside with me for five minutes and then if you still want to leave, we can go back to yours and do exactly that. I promise I won't argue, we'll just leave." Draco narrowed his eyes at her, not believing for a second that she wouldn't put up as much of a fight with him then as she is now. Clearly seeing this on his face, she continued, "If I don't keep my word you have full permission to hex me. But I'm certain you're going to want to stay."
Draco huffed and uncrossed his arms. "Fine. But I will not hesitate to hex you."
"Wouldn't dream of it," Pansy said with a grin. She was already pulling Draco along by the wrist again.
Draco wasn't sure what he'd been expecting, but he was sure he'd be hexing Pansy and demanding she take him home once those five minutes were up.
So you can imagine just how surprised he was to see his former rival and crush who had—seemingly to the wizard world anyway—dropped off the face of the earth, Harry Potter, dancing on a pole when he walked through the doors of a gay muggle strip club.
Draco's jaw dropped as his eyes landed on the man who'd always had the uncanny ability to catch his attention. Pansy elbowed him in the side and he regained his composure. "Happy birthday to me," was all he could manage to say as he made his way toward the stage.
Draco: *walks by*
Harry: I'd hit that
Hermione: I know you don't like him Harry but violence is never the answer
Harry: right yeah violence...that's what I meant...I'd hit that with my fists
If you can’t think of anything to say about a fic, writers also like to know:
- what time it is
- how long you’ve been reading
- how many chapters you’ve covered in the last 24 hours
- what you were late for because you were reading
- the woeful few hours you have left to sleep
- the emotional outbreaks you’re experiencing
- the inappropriate place you’re having said outbreak
- the general public’s reaction to your outbreak
- how much phone battery you have left

I love that the nicest community I’ve been in so far has been the pain and suffering community
I’m so emotional about dinosaur stuffed animals,,, there are these creatures, extinct long before any of us were alive, but we found their bones and their eggs and their footprints. And we made drawings and models of what they could’ve looked like. And we made them into stuffed animals so we could hold them. We made them soft so we could love them. I’m sobbing
Yeah, we're the animal so preoccupied with petting other animals we're sort of collectively upset there are animals we never get to pet, so we make proxies to snuggle and tell their ghosts we'd have loved them if they were here.
...and tell their ghosts we'd have loved them if they were here.
Hang on i just have to cry for a minute
I work at a dinosaur museum. I speak to a giant T. Rex skeleton as if he can hear and understand me. Sometimes more than others I feel like he can. On a daily basis I do tell his ghost that not only would I have loved him but that I indeed do love him.
Maybe that’s silly. To treat this giant predator as if he’s a domestic dog living about my workplace. But I don’t have it in me to believe that he doesn’t feel, that they didn’t feel emotions the way dogs do.
Gryffindor Student: *sighs* Professor Potter is so hot
Their friend: careful. Don't let Professor Malfoy hear you say that.
Draco: *walking by, trying not to laugh* yeah I hear that Professor Malfoy can be very territorial
So I joined the HD Hurt/Comfort Fest and I'm beyond excited and like I've made friends I think? Like I feel like there's such a huge part of the fandom I've been missing out on entirely! Anyways just wanted to say I'm hella excited
Spells and hexes flew from Harry's wand in quick succession "I'm in love with you!" Harry nearly shouted it like a spell itself. Sweat was beginning to drip down his brow and he was panting. He narrowly dodged a stinging hex.
Draco didn't even seem shocked by his confession, his face only showing the same exhaustion Harry was feeling. "You tell me now?!" His dueling partner of over an hour shouted between casts. He jerked his head to fling the blond hair out of his eyes.
Harry bounced an Expelliarmus off of a nearby wall, finally disarming Draco. "Felt like as good a time as any." He doubled over to catch his breath, offering a sly smile at the blond.
