One thing golden era Wattpad writers had going for them was that they knew the importance of a buildup. I'm of the opinion that the sexual tension is WAY more satisfying to read than the actual sex and quite frankly there is a serious lack of non smutty writing.
Like I really miss reading fics/ x readers that start from scratch. Meeting the characters, initial reactions getting to know them, the tension the jealousy the TENSION the freaking tension.
Looking and looking away when they get spotted, touches that feel like they linger but perhaps they didn't and they're both so hot for each other that they think it's wishful thinking. And I don't mean just sweet sunshine romances, darker works can have a buildup too but it seems like so much is just about getting to the smut instead of the psychological aspect.

Summary: You decide to bring Parker out of the attic to socialize.

“Golly… really?” Parker’s eyes go wide as he processes your words, suggesting to bring him down from the attic.
Standing up from where he sat, Parker paces back and forth across the attic space, deep in thought.
“It might make our games more fun.” You hum while cleaning up the board games scattered about. “And get you out of this attic.”
“More fun?” Parker echoes your words, seemingly offended.
“If you are finding my games boring I can always spice things up!” He huffs. “All I need is oil and my handy mushrooms.”
“Just bring your games tomorrow.” You sigh.
Giggles and mutters escape from Parker’s lips as he starts planning for tomorrow. You were about to leave but then paused in your motions.
“Hold on. What were you planning to do with the oil and-”
“Ohgeewouldyoulookatthetime. Bye!” He clears his throat then disappears.
You are now left alone in the attic as Parker disappears. With that, you head down the steps and head to bed, not knowing what chaos will await you tomorrow.
The following day, you bring the board games down from the attic and towards your office. You put on the Dateviators and were about to wake him before getting an idea.
You walk towards the 20 sided dice, clearing your throat, Chance appears, sitting on the table.
“Hey, what's up?” He waves excitedly with a grin.
“I brought Parker down. You think you can hang out with us?” You point to the box of board games that were lying on the floor.
“I’d love to!” He smiles and clasps his hands together.
You turn back towards Parker, bringing him to life.
He’s sat down, looking around the room with eyes wide and mouth open.
“Wow… this looks mundane.” Despite his words, he sounded excited to be here.
A chuckle escapes between you and Chance. “Just choose what game we should play.”
Parker turns to you, then finally notices his friend.
“Hi-ho Chance! What brings you here?” Parker tilts his head.
The D20 waves at Parker and walks over to sit beside him. “Hey, I was wondering if I could play a few games with you?”
There were practically stars in his eyes as he flails his arms around, you walk over to sit beside him.
“Why of course you can!” He exclaims, tone high and loud.
The three of you play a game called Market Control, with Parker arguing with Chance about the rules of money and the rent given.
The commotion seemed to draw a few attention, since Mac and Jerry appears beside you.
“What are you guys up to?” Mac hums, moving to sit between you and Parker with their arms crossed.
“We're about to play Whodunnit. Wanna join?” Chance puts away the play money, and you grab the box of board games.
Parker seemed to be quiet, focused on cleaning.
“Well, I think I’m pretty good at solving.” Jerry proudly says. “Actually, we should get Maggie. She'd love this game.”
Then the five of you play a few rounds before the next game.
Time passes and word seems to spread around about a game night. Some sit back and place bets while watching others play different games.
Though there wasn't much space, all of you made it work through game after game, rounds after rounds until you called it a night.
Parker helps you clean up, still reminiscing the time spent talking and joking with others.
It's been so long since he played with this many people. He can't even recall when was the last time he was out of that attic.
“You good?” You panicked, seeing Parker cry.
“Uh- yeah. I just dreamt of a moment like this for so long.” His voice cracks, looking away with a sheepish chuckle. “I never really expected it to happen.”
“Thanks.” He whispers.
You smile back at him. “Of course, you deserve to share your interests to the entire house.”
There was a comfortable silence that passed over you both while cleaning the mess made.
“Maybe next time we can try this at the Breaker Box.” You suggested, putting all the board games away.

Once you and Betty started seeing one another, the bedroom became much more lively than it had been in months. First, they have the nerve to call you without even saying hello at the start, starting with an immediate argument about your housing choices in your apartment.
After that, they had the decency to insult you and how you were a ‘disappointment’ to the family, when you didn’t even do anything wrong.
Then, they had the guts to target you about your dating choices, as they recently discovered that you were dating a certain demon.
Dating a demon wasn’t your original plan. Hell, were you even planning to date at all? Admit it, you and a lot of others were assuming that you would grow old with a tennis-ball walker and a cat all by yourself.
Beetlejuice is the kind of person demon you would run to if there ever raised a problem. He’s kind, energetic, and he always has a way of making you laugh your ass off at any given moment if he has the opportunity.
Beej was yours, yours to hold, yours to have to comfort you, and yours to be with.
Obviously you’re not the only one with parental issues. As Beej has told you in the past, his mother was heavily abusive, who constantly smoked and drank, and he had no idea where his dad was, despite both of his parents being in the netherworld.
Oh right, back to your situation.
As you storm back to your bedroom in your apartment- which no matter what those fuckers said, was in perfect condition, and is a just fine living space, no doubt about it- you glance into the bedroom to see Beej floating upside down as you walk in the door.

The covers are thrown to the side as you leap out of the bed and bolt to the corner before the living room, and you see Beej mid-attack. God, you did this.
Stepping slowly, you inch your way closer to him apologetically, before you kneel in front of him where he’s sitting on the sofa.
"Hey, Beej..", you start softly, as you try to coax his attention back to you before he spirals too deep. Who knows what'll happen then?
Looking at you as he sniffles, his arms shaking, you climb on the sofa next to him as you hold his face in both of your hands, planting a kiss to his temple.

You are in love. There’s no denying that... except for the fact that you DID deny it every time someone accused you. It was just too embarrassing!
It was just the other day, in fact. “Cmon’ doll, you REALLY ain’t head over heels for me?”, Beetlejuice asked with mock-puppy-eyes, his green-tinted skin shining with his eyes.
“N-No, no no no-”, you’d stammer every time. Gosh, you’re lucky he’s too dumb to collect when someone’s lying. Not to mention horribly.
The truth was, was that you really ARE in love with him. A.K.A. down bad. But the idea of being rejected terrified you. What if he doesn’t want to be with just a simple human like you? Eh, whatever, just keep denying, your dreams would never come true anyway.
Fast forward to today, as you finish your shower and throw some clothes on. You have an appointment at the doctor’s today and you DON’T want to miss it. Before you can make it down the stairs, your hand is suddenly grabbed and you are twirled as if you were dancing, causing you to giggle.
“Morning doll~”, Beej says with that rough voice that drives you insane. He is so unaware of the effect he has on you, so you just laugh, pat him on his cheek, and proceed down the stairs.
Replying with a chuckle, you say, “Morning Beej, before I get to your antics, I need some coffee. Like, as soon as fucking possible.”. He rolls his eyes in mock pout, but follows you nonetheless, leaning against the counter.
Setting your mug on the counter next to him, you turn around to change the coffee filter, your back turned to him. Completely unknown to you, Beej is planting something in your mug.
Grabbing the small vial of truth serum in his striped jacket pocket, he pours a couple of drops into the bottom of the mug. The coffee will go right over it, mixing immediately! You were dumb enough to lay the mug next to him; that’s on you.
Around ten minutes later, you’re preparing your bag to go to the doctor, but suddenly feeling light-headed, and before you know it, the room goes black as a pair of arms catch you.

You wake up, finding yourself sitting on the sofa, Beej kneeling in front of you with a devilishly suspicious grin on his face, leaving you confused as to what happened.
“What did you do?” is what you ask, concerned for your own well-being. With Beetlejuice? There’s no telling what he did.
He rubs your knee softly, looking up at you with that signature smirk. “Oh, y’know Y/N, just getting you to tell me the truth for once.”, he says, his grin widening. You see the vial in his hand, and your face goes pale. How much did you tell him? Does he know EVERYTHING?
“At least I know now just how much you looove meee~”, he says with a chuckle, his shoulders bouncing slightly with every laugh. You blush furiously as you flick his forehead, but before you can run, he pulls your head down and kisses you.

Wait, hold on-
He’s KISSING you? No way, this must be a dream. Somebody needs to pinch you, right now. Before you know it, a pinch on your ankle from the person you were kissing. And you felt the pinch. Not a dream. Woah.
You both pull back as you gaze into those handsome blue eyes, his nails caressing your knee, as you both laugh softly, and you cup his cheek softly.
“For the record, babes?-”, he starts as you nuzzle his nose, “Mhm?”, you reply. He softly pecks your lips once more before finally responding,
“That was the best kiss I’ve had in millennia…”, he says softly, his eyes gazing into yours.
With one final whisper of “I love you too…”, before you leave, he pecks your nose.
Being a girl is: wanting to go to bed early but deciding to just get on tumblr/wattpad/Ao3 for a little bit and then end up finding a fic series that you really like and read until well past your usual bedtime then keeping on because it’s already past your bedtime. Then being mad when you wake up in the morning because you overslept your timer.
