Hi, I was just wondering if you knew where to find online dnd groups? I really want to join a group and play but I don’t really have friends or know of anyone around me who plays. Thank you in advance!
Yeah, I know of a few places you can go to to find groups! Here’s a little compilation of what I know:
Discord & Dragons - A server dedicated to D&D discussion and play.
Dungeons & Downvotes - Unofficial Reddit/Imgur D&D community; a great place to learn and find games!
Rat Queens - All-Female Dungeons and Dragons & online roleplaying group. Mostly play-by-post. The link is to their twitter page, where you have to DM them for an invite. However, i’m unsure a.) if they’re still active (as their twitter last updated in july), b.) how big of a server they are, and c.) if they’re welcoming of trans women (if anyone knows, please do tell as I don’t want to advertise for them if they aren’t.)
Pair o’ Dice - Constructive conversation, RPG mentoring, and group-finding.
RPG-Talk - A place for RPG discussions mostly. Many channels for all sorts of systems. I’m sure you could find some groups here.
The Blue Crest - A growing community for RPG discussion and group-finding.
WorldBuilding - Official /r/WorldBuilding community server. Mostly for DMs looking to world build, but you may be able to find groups here.
The Tavern - A huge DM and Player community with over 1500+ members, Its a great source for everything D&D and Pathfinder.
Dungeon Slimes - A super friendly, slime-themed social discord server with interests in Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, and other games of all sorts. The staff has a combined 30+ years of tabletop experience and the community is super helpful, no matter where you are in your tabletop journey.
/r/Looking For Group- You’ll find TONS of different people looking for dnd groups on this subreddit.
Facebook - Yes, even facebook has some resources for finding online (or in person) groups
Adventurer’s League - This website has some resources for finding both online and in person groups.
Roll20 - Roll20 is pretty good for finding online groups, as it’s pretty much THE tool for online tabletop gaming. If you scroll down, you’ll see listings for groups. The only down side is it’s hard to get to know the people you’re going to be playing with before you play with them, as there’s really no lead up conversations before the game times. So it’s a gamble with roll20.
DnDBeyond - I. Love. DndBeyond. I use it for everything and it’s only getting better and better. You can find many groups in their “Looking for Players & Groups” forum. When you join a campaign on dndbeyond, your dm can see your character sheet too. So it’s convenient.
I’d also just stay involved in the dnd/DM community here on tumblr as well, because you’ll find popular blogs will often host sessions open to a limited amount of their followers. I know some DMs also have Patreons where their rewards involve hosting a campaign every now and again.
If any of my followers has more suggestions for finding online groups or even has a group/discord of their own that they want to advertise, give this post a reblog with your suggestions/links and i’ll be sure to reblog you! I’d personally love to see if theres any LGBTQ/Women/POC centered discords/groups that are inviting to those identities.
