Hey everyone! Just a heads-up that I am now taking WRITING COMMISSIONS! Deets below the cut :3

My rates are $10 for 1k words - the maximum I'm planning on taking on per commission is 10k, but hey! It's early days. I'm amenable to suggestions if people have any. I'm only accepting payment through PayPal at the moment.

I can write OCs or existing characters; I can write isolated scenes or short stories. I can write just dialogue, or I can write a piece without any dialogue at all. :P I'm also stylistically flexible! Do you want me to mimic the vocabulary and epistolary style of a classic novel? I can do that! >:3

I consider myself fairly open about what, exactly, I write (angst, fluff, important narrative beats, action, horror, snapshots into a moment, e.t.c. e.t.c.) but I reserve the right to turn down a request if I don't vibe with the concept/don't want to write it. I'll also just say upfront that I'm not accepting smut/kink-based commissions (I'm not AGAINST them, lmao, I'm just not interesed in writing 'em for money). I plan on communicating a lot throughout the process (including sending various snippets of WIPs, if that's what a person wants). My official turnarount time is two weeks for any one piece; I like to think I'd take less time than that, but it feels important to have a concrete deadline for myself, just in case. xD

i think its fine to have limited tastes in media if you understand your limitations. like i wont shame someone if they only watch cartoons because thats their choice but i also dont think you can go making hot takes about the horror genre if the scariest thing youve watched this decade was the owl house finale. that seems ill advised.

I was reminded of this point because of bluesky but the popularization of headcanon vs canon as a fandom axis has resulted in a dramatic death of trans media literacy and its fucking depressing.

The axis of "confirmed by the author" and "fake as fuck imagined bullshit" has done so much damage and it feels insane to even talk about?

The Knights of Guinevere fiasco is really good proof of that. The entire framing of that situation as "people butthurt mad that the author said their headcanon wasn't real" not only doesn't really get across what was actually wrong with the situation but also like, it wasn't a "headcanon"! It was a reading of the text!

Death of the author is not my favorite literary tool, but trans readings of the main character had solid textual evidence for this. This wasn't an imagined reality. If you, you know, actually fucking listened, you would have seen that it was pretty reasonable. I didn't even share the reading when I watched the episode and when I found out about it I went "yeah that seems pretty reasonable actually."

There's a whole discussion to be had about whether the author should have even responded to the question or not, or whether the question should have been asked. I don't need the author's fucking permission to find a transgender reading of a character. I do not need Kim Ji-hoon to come down from the heavens and say "Yes, Ishmael is transgender. You're the most right fan in the entire world. Also you never need to gamble for an ID again."

But now the fact that the creator for KoG came down and said "No that character is not transgender. They're cis" will forever be used as a cudgel to beat over anyone who watches the show and comes to the same reading. It will forever be a tool to hit trans women with who want to see themselves reflected in characters. That was the problem!

and really, I don't care. One of the ideas behind death of the author is that people will write meanings into text that they do not see or believe are there. Andy Weir writes books with political messages even if he's a dumbass who doesn't know what the world means.

Really if you think about it the crime of authors being on social media and answering fan questions should be punishable. Never do this. Creators out there do not respond to fan questions it never goes well.

It’s insane to me that Dragon Age 2 is sandwiched in between two WAY HUGER and WAY MORE SUCCESSFUL games about more traditional fantasy protagonists facing off against world ending threats and winning and it’s this…weird, raw, personal tragedy about how no matter what you do, you can’t always stop crisis and disaster from occurring. Like The Hero or Ferelden, no matter who they were, wants to stop a Blight. The Inquisitor wants to repair the sky. And Hawke, like, wants to make some money, hang around their friends, and keep their family and their adoptive city safe. And they can’t even fucking do that, so unlike the heroes before and after them. You spend seven years in Kirkwall until the game says, “yeah, no matter what, the prejudices and traumas and hurts of this world are Too Much for one person to stop them. The world changes, wars roll over the land, you cannot stop history, Hawke. You tried. You failed.” And then you just sit there, sixteen years old, listening to “I’m Not Calling You A Liar” and you’re like….well, I guess I really wasn’t a hero. Damn. I love it.
