It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

i think we as a community need to put more emphasis on the fact that all of eddie's friends are slightly afraid of him. obviously this cannot be due to any real threat of physical or emotional harm so my instinct is to believe this is related to his terrifying lack of shame. hanging out with eddie is knowing that he has a perpetual bomb strapped to his chest in the form of his extreme willingness at practically any time or place to embarrass the fuck out of the both of you, together, with no escape, and only one of you will suffer any lasting psychic damage for it.

this and maybe also the fact that he is sort of large and would absolutely put a dear friend of his in a headlock to bestow a wet willy.

Even if you're afraid you might look desperate, uncool, dumb, whatever the fuck all those people may say. There is nothing your reputation will not survive from aslong as you act with integrity. A person who stands tall, who does not reject themselves their humanity of just being human. I promise you that once people realize you truly and genuinely are not playing games and are as genuine as you are, they will ease up to you. If I don't want to do something I'll say no, if I do want something I'll say it, if I feel like smiling I'll smile. If I can't muster a smile I won't. I do not live this life to play a role.

The thing about radical kindness (or any kindness, for that matter) is that there are going to be times when someone or something makes you regret it. There are going to be times when you show someone empathy and grace that they don't "deserve". There are going to be times when someone takes that kindness and uses it against you. The world doesn't magically transform into a perfect place when you decide to choose kindness and people will take advantage of it. People will continue to be shitty.

But the thing is...that's not a flaw of kindness. That's not a you problem. That's a them problem. People who are happy with themselves and their lives don't go out of their way to misuse someone's kindness or grace. The "normal" response to kindness or empathy is not to find a way to exploit it. People who are happy with themselves don't look for ways to hurt people for no reason. Kindness will never be the problem. No matter what some shitty person decides to do with it. It should go without saying not to be a doormat, yes. Don't allow people to treat you badly just for the sake of being kind. But also don't let shitty people make you bitter because of how they treated you when you were kind.
