It really baffles my mind how strong the "screen" or "online" disconnect is that kids as young as 13 on this hellsite are so bold about talking back to adults who are at times 20, 30 years older than them when they go into their spaces and scream that a fictional thing is bad.

No, really, think about it like this: you're a 35-year old adult writing fanfic. You have a job, a few gray hairs, maybe kids of your own. Visualize that. You're at a gathering where you and some other adults are sharing paper copies of your work. A kid walks up to you and screams "degenerate", and how you're grooming people. The adults in the room, including you, all look down at them (because let's face it, you're probably twice their size) and raise a brow.

That's all I can think of when kids do the moral panic thing.

The shows idea of autistic awareness is to portray Helaena as stupid & detached from her surroundings & then for everybody to nod along like Gelaena just said something smart anyway. They made Helaena a horrible sister & person who’d rather defend a rapist than ask one of that rapist’s unwilling victims a couple questions before wishing that person dead.

I wish the writers were as interested in the individual characters & their motives than having team feminisms & team out & out psychopaths as a way to try to soeciously shove their ideology down the audience’s proverbial throats.

The point in the first post about ideology being seen as more important than people now is also dead-on. I looked up an old friend of mine today and found her ranting about climate change and systemic racism and all the other mandatory woke talking points. She never once mentioned any of those things to me when we used to hang out, 10 years or more ago, but going off the fervor she was displaying, it would likely be unthinkable to her now to even meet someone who thinks all of that is gobbledygook, let alone enjoy living life beside just chilling out.

Human connection has been kicked from the top of people's priorities and been replaced by trinkets, money, constant distraction, surface status and algorithmic popularity amongst strangers, as well as fanatical allegiance to whatever ideological echo chamber they are trapped in, with nothing to show from any of them at the end.
