pretty sure this image is AI or manufactured in some way, but the information is (mostly) correct. what's actually going on here is that there is an existing galactic filament (which is a type of bone-like structure we see in the galaxy) which is 230 light years long. the 'fracture' is not 230 light years long, but the structure that has been fractured is, and it looks like this:

(again, this is not the fracture itself, but a structure called a galactic filament that looks like a bone or a snake).

what the Chandra X-ray Observatory found (with help from MeerKAT in south africa, yay!) was that this structure has a fracture in it, that was likely caused by a pulsar colliding with it at 1-2 million miles per hour.

(a pulsar is a type of neutron star that is rapidly rotating and blasting out radiation)

so, it's not quite as dramatic as a huge fracture in the galaxy itself, but still very cool!
