The museum at my undergrad hosted a photography exhibit by Leonard Nimoy around 2002 or 2003 featuring photographs from his Shekhina series (which is the series the above pic comes from). It's a gorgeous and powerful series.

I have loads. I tend to favor anything supernatural, involving sheydim, witches, magic, or mythological creatures, but I do just love and enjoy folklore in general. Some favorites off the top of my head:

Hey! I want to start saying brachot more often, so I created a lock screen guide with the different food blessings. I made it so it isn’t blocked by the time, date, Hebrew date, or “press home to open” labels. I made several color options for anyone interested in using it!

Ritual handwashing, hamotzi, and wine/grape juice are in smaller print because those are ones that I have memorized.

“Grain Sustenance” refers to anything made from grain (wheat, barley, rye, spelt or oat) that isn’t bread: cake, pastries, pasta, couscous, farfel, most crackers and cereals. I specifically included sustenance (from mezonot) in the title because it’s a helpful reminder for me and others that haven’t had a good relationship with food in the past that yes, these items are absolutely sustanence that you can and should be eating (unless you have an allergy of course).

Fruit of the Trees: something grown from a perennial tree that does not renew its stem and does not grow too close to the ground. Examples: apples, grapes, and nuts (not peanut).

Veggies and Other Fruits: These are the “fruits of the earth” which includes vegetables, legumes, peanuts, and any fruit that doesn’t fit the tree fruit description. Examples of that include bananas, melon, pineapple, and some berries.

Miscellaneous: all other food. Meat, fish, eggs, cheese, mushrooms, candy, water, non-grape drinks, etc.

(Jewish) Pride Month Day 3: Ezra Furman

Ezra Furman is an American indie rock musician, singer and songwriter. She has released 7 solo albums, 3 solo EPs, 3 albums with her previous band, Ezra Furman and the Harpoons, and has worked on the soundtrack for the Netflix show "Sex Education". They are Jewish, bisexual, and a trans woman. Their queer and Jewish identities are central to their work. She was previously enrolled in rabbinical school but dropped out and stated she had decided to lead and empower Jewish people through art instead. Their unapologetic expression of queerness and Jewishness has made them an icon to queer Jews in the indie/alt rock scene.

*Furman uses both she/her and they/them pronouns. She also goes by Liz but has continued to use Ezra as her professional name.

My Facebook Memories is reminding me of the time two years ago when the gentiles learned that we wrap our arm and head with leather every day as a part of a ritual to symbolize how much we love G-d as our Father/Master, and perhaps understandably had a hard time believing it wasn't a sex thing

Yona Wallach was an Israeli poet who wrote some songs that referred to Tefilin as a sex object. I didn't personally read her poetry on the matter and do not want to, but I think I have reliable sources on that. She's generally considered a sexually explicit poet - I think @david-goldrock shared a skit by Hayehudim Ba’im about it here once.

I think brushing your teeth is quite apt. Tefillin is like maintenance for the soul and so are the morning prayers.

Brushing your teeth is like maintenance for your teeth and gums, your teeth and gums are very important.

There's no penalty for missing a day or two of tefillin or teeth brushing... But for someone who lays tefillin every day it will definitely feel wrong to miss it.
