From Whence you came Chapter 13 [Song Recommendation: Tounges and teeth by the crane wives]
Shadow milk cookie decieded to pay the creature a visit now that pure vanilla cookie was dealt with, heading down his grand spire to meet the creature who's just made its way back to its cosy home immediately noticed shadow milk "Shadow milk, hello do you need something?" It was smiling, a little excited to see shadow milk. It felt its own heart seemingly bubble with feelings as it stared
"Oh please, can't i simply check up on a friend of mine?" Shadow milk grins, lying down on the creature's bed. It simply gave him a smile that made his soulstone do a little flip. "No, nothing wrong. But you must be here for something more yea? You like Flare alot" the creature smiles, knowing shadow milks love for drama. Seeing that he had been caught shadow milk simply sighed and sat up.
"Well, I couldn't help but hear of a certain vanilly and his band of misfit crossing paths with you...so out of curiosity i came down to chat!" Shadow milk cooed deciding to float by the creature his eyes glinting with mischief "what did he tell you? That he is a hero here to save the world from darkness and evil hm, sounds like hogwash don't you think?"
the creature seemed to take shadow milk's words to heart thinking deeply before replying "whats wrong with what he say?" Shadow Milk scowl seeing that the creature wasn't just going to agree so easily. He needed a better lie- he started rubbing his temples as he tried to formulate a response "What's wrong with what he said? Well Where do I even begin?" He shook his head, looking at the creature with a wry smile. "Pure Vanilla is a liar, plain and simple. He paints himself as a shining hero, but he's just a man. A fallible, flawed man, same as the rest of us."
Shadow Milk leaned in closer, his voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper. "he claims the beast are all evil but I say that it's nothing but a big fat lie!" Shadow Milk nodded, a sly grin spreading across his face. "He paints them as monsters, as threats to be destroyed... but I know the truth. The beast were not always like this, you know. They were once guardians, protectors of Earthbread. And just like any hero, they succumbed to their greed for power!"
He leaned back, his gaze turning thoughtful. "You mustn't trust him, dear creature. He'll say anything, promise anything but can you truly trust a half baked excuse of a hero who only chose to believe in what he wants? Following orders from higher power...believing in the truth of one side..." Shadow milk mentally pat himself on the back but the creature was still not buying into the lie.
"You seem very against Pure vanilla...you know him well?" It was a simple question, a gauge to figure out why shadow milk seems so adamant in insisting pure Vanilla is a bad guy but it left shadow milk stuttering, "uh..know him? Psh, of course I do! He is that classic stereotype of hero who believes he is doing the world a favour with his so called truth. Well news flash! The world is not black and white as he believes!"
the creature couldn't help but notice just how personal these attacks seem to be, as if shadow milk personally knows pure vanilla or at least have something to say about his personal goals. "You sound like you and him have some rivalry..." Shadow Milk immediately stops, realizing that he must definitely sound like he has a cause to discredit pure vanilla-
Shadow Milk laughed, a slightly forced sound that grated on his ears. "Rivalry? Me and Pure Vanilla? Don't be ridiculous!" He scoffed, waving a hand dismissively. I simply have a... a professional disagreement with him, that's all. Once i heard his speech in a passing town and i so happen to have a different philosophy. That's all this is!"
"You...are lying..." Shadow milk cookie could feel the creature's gaze on him, heavy and searching, and he squirmed uncomfortably under the scrutiny. Why did he feel the need to justify what he is doing to this thing, why was he even here- no, never mind all this bull. just before the creature could press for more questions shadow milk abruptly stood up. "Shadow milk...? Something wrong?"
Shadow milk stared at the creature, the gaze it was giving him. Just like what it gave pure vanilla cookie. No, he didnt forget that. He wasnt going to let that slide. "I... I need to attend to some matters," he said, his voice stiff and formal. "Plot and scheming, you know how it is. A genius' work is never done!" He forced a laugh, but it sounded hollow and unconvincing even to his own ears.
Shadow Milk began to back away, his eyes never leaving the creature's face. "You... you stay here and rest. I'll maybe send black sapphire to keep you company, yes? That boy of mine should get to know you better especially after he rudely attacked you, And later, we'll... we'll talk more. About anything you want." He paused, his expression softening slightly. "But for now, I must away. Duty calls, and all that!"
Shadow milk zipped away in his magic portal leaving the creature alone. It stared at the empty space once again it missed its chance, it felt a little....conflicted and alittle sad. But then something in its mind begun to nag, nibble thoughts into his mind. That was rather odd wasn't it? The creature stares a moment longer. Something is...odd, something that it may not like. Secrets that's been kept.
[later]
The creature laid down on its bed for a moment, closing its eyes and dreaming of the world it once was from. Dragons flew up high, mythical beast roam the land amongst the ordinary. Kings, Knight's and adventurers, large castles to modern buildings. But as it tried to remember things that were more personal it became fuzzy, its name, its family, its friends- then it remember the rift. Then a deer-
It stung, it's mind felt like it was splitting apart. It sat up and hissed, clutching it's chest what was that? its senses begun going haywire and immediately it ran outside, its gaze locked onto the spire. as it got closer the headache sharpens as if warning it of- of something, something dark and evil was happening. It lead it straight to the spire that shadow milk lived in.
It glanced upwards wondering for the first time since its met shadow milk was...just who is that man? Why does it always seem to be that shadow milk just so happen to see so many things? it uses the blades in its gauntlets to climb the tower choosing to find another way in so as to not alert shadow milk. Shadow milk must be hiding something, as it reached a window it climbed into the spire the halls looked even more unstable then before, its brows furrowed the magic in the spire was much more acute now. The walls were glitching out, a Sharp sting filled its mind. A shadowy vestige always watching.
It looked down at its hand and saw blue, its brows furrowed in confusion as its own body move without prompt the whispers of a beast cookie. What exactly was a beast cookie? it had wondered, It took a step back, stunned to silence by disbelief. The unstable magic here seemed to have influence a memory that was now forced onto the creature. It saw the pain and destruction they had caused and the eventual sealing of the beasts, a fork up high sent down to trap the beast forever.
it jolts out of the memory with a gasp. Its hand immediately clutched its chest, its heart pounding and its pupils narrowed what it just saw and experienced was shadow milks memories. It's hand was still shaky as it tried to reconcile with what had just happened, it had heard a voice beckoning lies and deceit. The blue hand had reached out and accepted a world of lies. It had felt the rage, betrayal and malice.
As its instincts remain high on alert a familiar scent soon cuts across the hallways. It perks its head immediately it knows that scent well enough.
'vanilla-'
Without thinking twice it sprints towards the direction, was whatever it saw true or just a illusion, was it a narrative of a distant past that it had got to see?- that scent. what was pure vanilla doing here? Pure vanilla was looking for a beast binding ritual so why was he here unless- its steps slowed as its eyes gazed down at the flowing river of milk and in the far distance...its heart seems to drop as it stared at the scene before it.
[Timeskip. -In the spire-]
Black Sapphire hums a cheerful tune as he strides down the hallways of the Spire of Deceit, his step lighter and more springy than it has been in weeks. The weight of Shadow Milk's displeasure, the constant dread of incurring his wrath, has lifted from his shoulders and in its place, a sense of relief and contentment has taken root.
His master had finally returned to their original goal of taking back the souljam, he held onto the bag with the hostages still inside when he noticed candy apple cookie waiting in the distance. "Don't you even try it candy apple cookie." He hissed, Candy Apple glares a flicker of jealousy in her eyes "c'mon black sapphire! Just hear me out-" she raced to get the bag but he held it aloft "no way! Your time to bask in masters glory will come but for now you will let me handle this-"
He heard something open, a door being forced open his head snapped and he saw the creature. What the heck was it doing here? Last he checked, that thing hardly ever visits on its own free will so what gives? "Hey, wait a minute why is-" But in his moment of hesitancy and confusion candy apple snatched the bag from his grasp and ran off "candy apple cookie!" He was quick to chase after her as she held the bag up in the air "kyahahahahaha! Just try to keep up!"
From Whence you came Chapter 12 [Song Recommendation: the saddest bop you ever heard by Rory webly]
Shadow milk slammed the door to his room close, on the way here candy apple had tried to ask him what was wrong but he had ignored her, he couldn't have her notice anything because she'd make a fuss out of this. He clenched his chest, his soulstone was beating unusually fast. He tried to push his thoughts away, to dismiss it as nothing more than a momentary lapse in judgment. But the more he tried to ignore it, the more insistent it became, until he could think of nothing else. It was like a hunger gnawing at him from the inside, a desperate, aching need that he couldn't seem to satisfy no matter what he did.
Shadow Milk collapsed onto his bed, burying his face in his hands as he struggled to make sense of the maelstrom of emotions swirling within him. He had always prided himself on his self-control, his ability to maintain a cool head and a clear mind in even the most trying of circumstances. But now, for the first time in his long, long life, he felt utterly lost, adrift in a sea of confusion and doubt. He flopped around in bed like a fish.
He wasn't supose to get this attach, this creature was stirring up all of these yucky emotions, his soul practically ached. Shadow milk groans "No no no nono. This isnt supposed to- im not supposed to feel these-" His initial plans for manipulations had been thrown out the window! He had undoubtedly bonded and befriended this stupid wretched creature, he gave it gifts, spent his night up sewing things for it, he had let his guard down, let this- thing dig into his chest stirring up unwanted feelings.
Shadow Milk let out a low, anguished groan, dragging a hand down his face as he struggled to come to terms with the revelation. He had so much left to do, so many plans to put into motion, so many souls to deceive and manipulate in his quest for power and revenge.
He couldn't afford to be distracted by something as trivial and fleeting as love, not now. He needed to take his mind off this creature stat! What can he do? What should he- ahah! The souljam "Right- right! Yes that blasted pure vanilla cookie- those pathetic ancient hero's...thats what i should go back too" immediately he calls for candy apple, ready to finally go on with the main act. Once he gets his full power back, no one! Not even the witches this time will stop him!
[Timeskip]
Shadow milk cookie had begun plotting, he had sent candy apple cookie to start leading them over. He snickers already dreaming of life when he'd got his souljam back and how he'll finally get his absolute revenge against the witches, this is what he wanted, no what he needed. 'Are you sure this is what you want?' A voice pierce into his mind, the feelings he wanted six feet under was crawling its way up. Shadow milk stared into the mirror he felt a slight twitch of frustration.
Shadow milk floats towards his desk, absentmindedly organising a few notes before one of his notebook fell from the stack, he groans bending down only to noticed that it was his notes of the creature. The jotted down notes, sketches of its autonomy every little action that seemed important...and yet shadow milk realised he had never gotten a name. Its birth Gender could be easily deduced by voice and looks but its name...he has never heard it utter its name.
Right maybe because shadow milk hasn't exactly taught it how to spell or read the alphabet...but like can you blame him!? He might have forgotten assuming the creature was old enough to skip that part. He gazed longingly at the sketch he made of the creature all he could think about was how its name would sound like. Was it something sweet? Or was it just as wild as it was?
Shadow milk groans, damnit he is off track again! How the hell does this simpleton of a creature be so capable of catching his attention like this!? He snarls wanting to throw the notebook away, but instead of doing so he immediately threw his notes away in his other realm, forget about this. He decieded to just take a peak at Candy apple cookie's progress she is taking to damn long! Just as he peaks through using magic he immediately froze- what the heck was the creature doing with pure vanilla cookie!?
Shadow milk cookie watched his mouth agap in shock as the conversation between the two went on. "I help...I hunt here, many paths I know" he remains frozen, staring at the unlikely pair before him. There, in the middle of the forest, stood Pure Vanilla, his arch-nemesis and the current wielder of the souljam that rightfully belonged to Shadow Milk. And standing beside him, looking up at the hero with a soft, almost tender expression, was the creature.
Shadow Milk felt a surge of something hot and unfamiliar rise up in his chest, a sensation that he quickly recognized as jealousy. How dare Pure Vanilla take such liberties with the creature, to stand there and look at it with such open admiration? It was unthinkable, unforgivable. The creature belonged to HIM, not to that self-righteous fool.
And where in the world was Candy Apple Cookie? She was supposed to be leading Pure Vanilla and his band of so-called heroes straight to his doorstep, ready for his grand performance. But instead, he found the one hero he didnt want interacting with one another, engaged in a scene that looked far too much like... friendship? Camaraderie? The very thought made Shadow Milk's skin crawl.
With a growl of frustration, Shadow Milk tore his gaze away from the scene, his mind racing as he tried to decide his next move. He needed to act fast, to get back on track and reclaim what was his. But first... he needed to find Candy Apple Cookie and immediately get her to stop whatever this is and then... then he would deal with his little pet project. Shadow milk listened to their conversation feeling like this was dragging on for to long.
"why you come here?" The creature asked, pure vanilla obviously answering with that same stupid goody two shoes tone. "I came to Beast-Yeast in search of a way to stop the threat that plagues our world," Pure Vanilla said, choosing his words carefully. "The Beast Cookies, those that were once the original wielders of the Soul Jams, have been unleashed. They seek to reclaim their power and bring darkness back to Earthbread." Shadow milk cookie couldn't help but roll his eyes, of course pure vanilla was painting it out as if he and his friends were the bad guy, that stupid hero cant even see how this worlds already messed up. Now they were talking about the kingdom's, blah blah blah. His thoughts halted when the creature spoke "one day, I visit can?" Shadow milk's jealous flared. He was the one who taught it how to read- how to speak- how to understand the language. And here pure vanilla cookie was! Speaking to it- catching its attention, trying to convince it to leave him behind!
"HAH! Oh now this is just gold" Shadow Milk scoffed, his voice dripping with mocking, exaggerated laughter as he snapped a cardboard cutout of pure vanilla out of thin air. "The great hero has deigned to grace us with his presence, to steal my place in the creature's affections with his silver tongue and shining armor!" He clutched his chest, his voice dripping with false anguish. As the cutout kept moving "Oh, woe is me, the poor, forgotten Shadow Milk, cast aside like some old, worn-out toy! I'm sure the creature will forget all about my teachings, all about the time we spent together, once it has tasted the sweet nectar of Pure Vanilla's love!" His words were biting, sharp with the hurt and anger that lanced beneath the surface. He crushed the cutout immediately.
He doesn't want the creature to even listen to his other half! That stupid pure vanilla cookie doesn't deserve half of his souljam nor the creature! He is the original him! He was the one that taught it everything it knows now, giving it the door to listen to others and converse. He should have been the one to tell the tale of earthbreads history- where the hell is candy apple cookie!!!
Ugh, shes taking to long. Shadow milk was still focused on the souljam, don't get him wrong....but as he continues to stare at the way the creature seemed to be enjoying pure vanilla's company, this had become personal. Already his mind was whirling with thoughts to disrupt this little get together.
Shadow milk cookie mentally cheered when candy apple in her disguised form finally showed up and took pure vanilla cookie away. Pure vanilla said his goodbye to the creature before finally leaving with candy apple cookie and the band of misfit hero's. Shadow milk cookie brow furrowed as he watched the creature stare longingly after Pure Vanilla's retreating form, its eyes filled with a softness and warmth that made Shadow Milk's blood run cold. Jealousy, hot and bitter, surged through him like a tidal wave, and he had to clench his fists to keep from lashing out in rage.
How dare it look at that fool with such... such affection? Such admiration? It was unthinkable, unforgivable. The creature belonged to HIM, not to Pure Vanilla. He had spent countless hours tutoring it, guiding it, teaching it the language of this world And now... now it was staring after that sanctimonious hero like some lovestruck puppy. Shadow milk cookie huffed turning away from the scene, even as his soulstone clenched.
[The Creature's POV]
The creature had wanted to ask for more info about the supposed beasts, the longer it stayed and talk to pure vanilla, the more it couldn't help but feel drawn to pure vanilla's warmth, it seems to be reminded of someone, someone from its past, blurry images tug at the back of its mind. actually... It couldn't remember alot of things, Why doesnt it seem to fit into this world, why is this world full and scented like sweets? Why was it even here in the first place... it blinks its hearing picking up on footsteps.
"Pure Vanilla cookie!" A young loud voice squeaks out, from a distance abhor notices a rather young brown haired boy coming over "Pure Vanilla cookie there you are! We've been looking all over for you! Oh! Is that a new friend? Hello there! Im gingerbrave!!!" The excited tone made it take a few steps back, it tried to give a smile even as 4 others slowly approached, a couple pair of eyes warily watching it.
"Ah my friends, I am so happy to see you all!" Pure Vanilla seemed pleased, the creature assumes they are friends considering pure vanilla's expression. it gave a small wave "hello, friend me" as the group continues to Chatter on the creature couldn't help but notice a familiar scent, its gaze drifted towards green apple Faerie Cookie Her scent seemed rather familiar.
The lily scented person seemed to be analysing it weary and possibly cautious, the creature couldn't help but straighten up "are you...alright pure vanilla?" she glanced at pure vanilla cookie who smiles, understanding the need of urgency "yes I am...quite alright! See this fellow over here had promised to help me find my way back and had protected me till now." "Where are...you going?" The creature asked earning it a few looks and glances from the group "oh! we were following green apple Faerie Cookie here to the spire of knowledge!" Gingerbrave squeaks before being elbow nudged by the one with the pointy hat. "Spire...?" The only big building that it knew was that grand Tower shadow milk lived in.
"Wait bu-" "we should get going! It's getting quite late out here we better hurry if we wish to avoid staying the night out in these woods!" The green apple one spoke up, she looked rather nervous constantly looking at it and back at the group. the creature couldn't help but frown. The one with the pointy hat seems to agree with her "I agree, let's hurry up and find that spire least we find ourselves in the dark!"
Pure vanilla smiles warmly before turning to look at the creature "it's a shame we have to cut this short, I had a pleasant time talking to you my friend. I hope we meet again soon" As the group turned to leave It waved goodbye to the group, it had wanted to say something perhaps follow along. It was happy, it couldn't help but feel the sense of familiarity with pure vanilla's personality its like...somewhere in the past it had met someone much like him. though if it was being honest that interaction felt rushed...that green apple Faerie Cookie was trying her hardest to cut its interactions short with the group.
From Whence you Came. Chapter 11
The creature stared eyes wide in shock as shadow milk cookie fled leaving it alone to stirr in its own thoughts and feelings. Its hand had been outstretched wanting to stop shadow milk, it slowly puts its hand down before grunting in frustration. It was...terrible in this emotion section it should have just said something but the words died on its own tongue, it didnt even have a name to give how can it give shadow milk its heart?
It's thoughts drifted to the people from before, there was one with stripes on their face too all it remembered was how annoying that one was, constantly saying weird things and wiggling their eyebrows as if they were oh so smart. There was also the smaller one, the one that appeared more meek more...emotional. it sighs, poking the dirt and slowly drawing out those images trying to recall it's own name. "Ab wh...whore?" For some odd reason it sounds wrong, but also pretty close.
It kicked the dirt with a snarl, maybe it was right to let shadow milk go. It can't even remember it's own name how on earth would it communicate its own thoughts and feelings? It decided to take a run through the woods trying to shake off the confusion and frustration. Why. Why can't it remember? Why was it so- different yet so alike to whatever shadow milk is?
After awhile it came to a stop it breathes in and out heavily trying to calm itself, sweat drips from its forehead and onto the ground it didn't even realised it ran this far. It sighed shaking its head before his senses started to tingle the smell of pure vanilla whafed the air. It looks up in confusion before slowly approaching the scent it hid in some bushes its gaze drifted to a strange man in what seems to be wafer and yellow. He looked lost, confused and even worried, Abhor hesitates unsure if he should show itself
...........................................................................
Pure vanilla cookie sighed in disbelief, he had been just with his group mere moments ago until they came across a cookie that appeared to be crumbling, he did all that he could but...nothing worked. He still remembered it clearly, the cookie became a monster the group was to far to reach him- green apple Faerie Cookie managed to block its attack mostly but the force was strong and had sent him tumbling down the path.
Now he was lost, he sighed slightly worried about his friends more then himself, he looks around clutching his staff closer. "Just where...am I...?" He mutters, he froze hearing the sound of dead leaves being disturbed. Something was watching He truly hopes it wasn't a wild animal or another phantom "who's...there?" He calls out, knowing that beast yeast wasn't for the faint of heart.
He knew he should run, flee. He should not take the slim possibility that whatever was hiding was friendly, but he was lost and running blindly in the woods won't help him at all. He had to stand his ground and face whatever that was ahead, the forest remained quiet a moment long before finally whatever that was watching came out of hiding.
a fellow cookie(?) slowly came out of the bush- though something felt...off. pure vanilla remains wary as the person took their own cautious step around him. The person tilt their head, their grey eyes scanning him up and down trying to identify him. Pure vanilla cookie couldn't help but stare at the other himself, there's just that- strange off canny feeling he gets when he looks at it. Pure vanilla wondered if this was another trick, if it was also a phantom.
The other cookie looked tall and gaunt their dough seemed so pale like it was underbaked. Every instincts in pure vanilla's head told him to run, but he stood rooted to the spot. The eye on his staff glances at the creature trying to get a better look at the strangers face "who....are you?" Pure vanilla's voice ringed out in the forest, the birds had stopped singing. The world went quiet as if it held its breath to watch.
The stranger took a few more steps as pure vanilla continues to speak, trying to remain as polite as he could even as fear coursed through him. "I... I'm Pure Vanilla Cookie," They were tall, taller than Pure Vanilla by a good few inches, and there was a lean, muscular build to their frame that spoke of someone who was no stranger to combat. Pure Vanilla swallowed hard, his mouth suddenly feeling dry.
the creature squints its eyes their head tilt remains, the way they approach pure vanilla cookie reminds him of how a curious wolf would. The other seemingly took a sniff brows furrowed in confusion as if trying to figure out what pure vanilla was. "hello..." they spoke slowly as if testing the word. Pure vanilla felt a odd chill run down his spine but he shook it off.
Even if every instincts in his body told him to run he held hope foolishly that perhaps the creature might not be as dangerous as it seems. If anything perhaps he could at least learn more about his surroundings from it. "I...uhm- yes...hello" Pure Vanilla gave a shaky smile truing to remain as calm as he could. The being was close enough for pure vanilla to glimse its face.
Their dough seemed slight Ashen pale in colour as if they were yet to be baked, there were dark shadows beneath their eyes that spoke of exhaustion or perhaps something more sinister. The grey eyes that stared at him were piercing, almost haunting in their intensity, and seemed to bore into him like twin chips of flint. Odd stripe like markings that adorn their face.
The creature as if sensing his hesitation and worry felt the need to speak, to at least put him at ease "I...I'm friend, no harm." It states its posture was more slouched as it tried to be smaller. Both hands held up to show no harm, pure vanilla was hesitant to believe but He had to admit, there was a certain sincerity in their tone that gave him pause. "I...see" Pure Vanilla replied slowly, his staff lowering slightly from its defensive position. He knew he should be wary, knew that this creature was not like the other cookies he had encountered on his journey. "I am Pure Vanilla Cookie," he said, his voice still guarded but with a slight thaw in his tone. "I come from the Pure Vanilla Kingdom, beyond the borders of Beast-Yeast. I mean you no harm either." He took a tentative step forward, then another, until he was standing a mere arm's length away from the stranger. he could see the details of their clothing, a mishmash of tattered and worn fabrics that seemed to have been cobbled together from various sources. There was a certain wildness to their appearance, a feral quality that spoke of a life lived on the fringes of society. "Can you tell me your name?" Pure Vanilla asked softly, his voice gentle and non-threatening. "I'm here to help, if I can. I want to understand you better." He kept his staff lowered, a clear sign of his peaceful intentions, and waited for the stranger's response with bated breath.
They hesitated before speaking in their slow halting way "I....no name yet..." Their thoughts drift to what pure vanilla said this place was known as beast yeast...and that pure vanilla came from another continent so to speak. "You come far away?" They asked, pure vanilla glanced at the creature slightly hesitant to delve to deeply with a stranger but he was still inclined to answer.
"Why yes- crispia...I had come a long way with some friends-" He paused considering the creature's words it had said it didn't have a name. Did it live here? "And you...? Have you always lived here? In beast yeast?" Pure Vanilla kept his tone light, trying to hide any distrust that might be in his voice. The creature nods "yes, I live here..."Pure vanilla nodded slowly, he was slightly surprised to learn that there were still cookies that live this deep into beast yeast...considering the hostile environment and also with the recent development of dark enchantress cookie base of operations being here. "That is quite remarkable" slowly he laid his staff down, now resting on the ground beside him in a clear display of trust.
An idea began to form in Pure Vanilla's mind, a plan that could potentially benefit them both. He needed to find his way back to his friends, and this stranger might be the key to navigating the tangled paths of Beast-Yeast. "I find myself lost and separated from my companions," Pure Vanilla explained, his voice tinged with a hint of embarrassment. "If you're willing, perhaps you could guide me back to the path we were on? I would be most grateful for your assistance." He offered a tentative smile, hoping to put the stranger at ease and convey his sincerity. Pure Vanilla knew he was taking a risk by placing his trust in a creature he had just met, especially one with such an uncanny presence. But he also knew that he couldn't afford to waste time wandering aimlessly in Beast-Yeast. Every moment spent lost was a moment that his friends could be in danger, and Pure Vanilla was determined to reunite with them as soon as possible.
I got another spam comment today on AO3, and I want to share it as a PSA. But before I do, I want you to understand that you SHOULD NOT DO what this comment is asking. Ok? Ok.
See that bit at the bottom? Don't do that. Insert ParamedicGuy.gif going "Don't."
Other malicious spam comments I've gotten seemed designed to make an author question their writing, or outright encourage them to delete their stories from AO3. This one is different, in that it tries to get you to destroy the work on your own computer.
If you ran that command, it basically locates your Documents folder, then deletes everything in it, including all subfolders. It also does it without any prompt, so you have no chance to second guess your actions.
This is just fucking trolling.
Coincidentally, we just did training on a cyberattack similar to this, called a ClickFix attack. You can read about how that works here.
As a general rule, if ANYONE or ANY WEBSITE tells you unsolicited* to do anything in Powershell, CMD RUN, command prompt, shell command, or something similar, DON'T.
*There are legit reasons for running commands in PowerShell or the command prompt, but in those cases you are likely seeking out a solution to a problem you are already experiencing. Don't just run random commands on your computer as recommended by some unlogged-in guest on a fan fiction site.
Always think and consider before taking action, and get a second opinion from a trusted source. When I got this comment I was pretty sure what the command would do, and it took me about three seconds of googling to confirm it.
Be safe out there!
This isn't just trolling. Nor is it a simple malicious attack to fuck with authors.
All of these things, starting with making people delete their stories from AO3 to now this, are all specifically designed to kill any digital paper trail so people can steal and make money off your fanfictions by just scrubbing the serial numbers off (and probably training AI on them).
These scammers have realized that even if people delete the stories off of AO3, authors can still prove that they are the original owner of the story by having locally stored documents that prove when the story was originally written.
That said: I want to impress on people once again to never EVER run any commands on your PC unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing! ESPECIALLY not if it's just a rando on the internet telling you to.
"If you ran that command, it basically locates your Documents folder, then deletes everything in it, including all subfolders. It also does it without any prompt, so you have no chance to second guess your actions."
Sorry, but that isn´t just trolling. This is a command that could VERY EASILY ruin a person´s life if they don´t second guess it. It is malicious and irreversible unless you have every single thing backed up elsewhere (some people have backups for important stuff but not everything and most people might not even have backups for all of the important things)
so no, this is not just trolling, this is a targeted, malicious attack on ao3 writers, especially younger and less tech savvy ones who might actually run the command.

These dudes are fucking legit. They don’t just show up one day in court, either, they actually make friends with the kids and let them know they have a support system and that there are people in the world who care about them and will always have their back. And less important, but also cool, is that the few times a couple of them have come into my cafe, they’ve been super friendly and polite and when I told one of the guys that I noticed his Bikers Against Child Abuse patch and wanted him to know how awesome I thought he was because of it, he got kind of shy and blushed and said, “The kids are the awesome ones, we just let them know they’re allowed to be brave.”
The source is long, but so, so good. These men and women are available in 36 states, 24 hours a day to stand guard at home, in court, at school, even if the child has a nightmare. Many of them are survivors of childhood abuse as well, and know what it’s like to feel scared and alone.
In court that day, the judge asked the boy, “Are you afraid?” No, the boy said.
Pipes says the judge seemed surprised, and asked, “Why not?”
The boy glanced at Pipes and the other bikers sitting in the front row, two more standing on each side of the courtroom door, and told the judge, “Because my friends are scarier than he is.”
Actual tears.. hnngh
Show me more of people like this, world. I give up on humans too easily.
where do i sign up for this,i want to be in this gang
This is fucking amazing. It may be out of character for me to say this but rock on
Bikers Against Child Abuse was founded in 1995 by a Native American child psychologist whose ride name is Chief, when he came across a young boy who had been subjected to extreme abuse and was too afraid to leave his house. He called the boy to reach out to him, but the only thing that seemed to interest the child was Chief’s bike. Soon, some 20 bikers went to the boy’s neighborhood and were able to draw him out of his house for the first time in weeks.
Chief’s thesis was that a child who has been abused by an adult can benefit psychologically from the presence of even more intimidating adults that they know are on their side. “When we tell a child they don’t have to be afraid, they believe us,” Arizona biker Pipes told azcentral.com. “When we tell them we will be there for them, they believe us.” ( Article)
More about BACA, from their site
My parents are a part of this organization and they are metal af
They go on runs to protect the child if they feel even the slightest threatened no matter where. If the child needs them to go on vacation with them, they do. Bikers come from across the nation to watch over and take shifts for these kids. And the best part is once you’re adopted into this family as a BACA kid, you’re always one. Even when you’re 40 and the perp gets released from jail, they’ll come meet with you and find your best options for avoiding the person and maintaining the life you’ve built for yourself. Once a BACA child, always a BACA child. In Florida, there’s 100% rate for identifying the perp based on the child’s testimony. Why? Because BACA stands with the child and supports the child so they feel comfortable enough to point out their attacker.
What’s better than a badass biker gang being on your side???
NATIVE AMERICAN CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST WHO IS A BIKER AND NAMED HIMSELF CHIEF HELL YES I’M HERE FOR THAT AND BIKERS BEING BAD ASS TO PROTECT KIDS. HELL YEAH.
it’s back! I will always reblog BACA
Damn good people.
I know they wouldn’t consider themselves such, but these people are freaking heroes and the world is a better place because of them.
Hey folks, it talks about this in the article but its not mentioned in this post, BACA is a 501 © (3) charity that depends in part on donations to help pay for stuff like gas for their bikes. If you want to help, consider donating.
@copperbadge You like posting about heroes, Sam. Seems like this would be up your alley.
I love these folks! I’ve reblogged them before but it’s wonderful to see the donation information has been added.
Always reblog. Keep doing what you’re doing y'all.
Guys? This post changed my life. I saw this post. Forever ago. And thought it was only in america… and wished desperately that they could help me. But then I saw it again, during a bad episode, and checked their site. They aren’t just in the USA
They’re in Canada as well and probably other countries. I met and talked with a native guy who runs the place near me. His name is Shaman. I got in, and I’m considered a BACA child now. Despite being 17, turning 18 when I talked to them. They spent time with me when my abuser was over, they gave me therapy resources. They give you something called a ‘level 1′ where they go to your house with as many bikers as they can, i shit you not a solid 20-40 bikers came from even out of province, and met me. I got to choose my biker name and I got a vest with patches on it and my name on it. They all hugged a Teddybear before giving it to me, and told me if I ever felt the BACA bear was running out of love, to give them a call and they’d refill it for me, and then I got a ride on one of their bikes. Just a day or so ago I went to an annual party with them and they we ate food one of them cooked and had a lot of laughs.
I’ve never felt as loved as I did being a part of the BACA family. They also gave me dog tags with the names, and phone numbers of my 2 workers. So I can call them whenever I feel scared.
BACA is an absolutely wonderful group that will do everything in it’s power to help any child whos been abused.
And it doesn’t end when you’re 18 either. As long as you get in contact/get your level 1 before you’re 18? you’re ALWAYS a BACA kid. I’m 18 now and they still invite me to parties, ask me if I’m okay, and are there for me. They’re still trying to find me resources for therapy.
BACA has changed my fucking life.
I hope you all can read this, and reblog it knowing from someone who fucking been with them, that they are absolutely amazing.
If I ever don’t reblog this, it’s because I am physically being restrained against my will.
Supporting your local hero’s.
FUCKEN AMAZING what these Bikers do!!!! This is why I don’t give up on humanity…

B.A.C.A’s Byline: “Keepers of the Children.” B.A.C.A.’s Motto: “No child deserves to live in fear.”
Not all heroes wear capes, some wear biker vests.
Had seen this before, but never realised that this is on an international level - there’s even a contact address close to where I live (in Germany), very cool (though hoping the only use I’ll ever have to make of it is for donations) ❤
That’s a lot of countries.
From Whence you came Chapter 10
Shadow milk was too excited to sleep, even as the moon rose to its zenith he was still up designing the creature's new clothes. He may probably take all night but who cares, he is shadow milk! As shadow milk finished he loomed over his work of art with glee, it felt great. "Yes, yes!" He exclaimed, circling around the finished work "it looks magnificent, absolutely stunning! I knew this design would be perfect for it. The color scheme most definitely match its complexion!" He gave himself a good pat on his back, only he could ever bring out the best of the creature. Though Shadow milk there was still so much he could improve on. "perhaps i could add a few more layers of protection," he mused. "A few more pockets, maybe, for carrying tools and weapons. And perhaps a hood to help conceal its features when needed. He went straight to work again, Shadow Milk smiled to himself as he worked, the soft rustle of fabric and the occasional clink of a needle against the table filling the air.
It was a familiar sound, one that brought back memories of countless nights spent hunched over a similar table, meticulously crafting costumes for his grand performances after his decision to becime more then just a simole fount. But this time, his work had a new purpose- to protect and serve his unique companion. For some reason, he felt his soulstone flutter.
Just imagining the creature using it on its hunts, benefiting from his choice of materials made him feel something strange. It felt...good, a sense of warmth and contentment washed over him. He shook his head- no no, this is just the feeling the feeling about using his skills to create something practical and useful, rather than just a flashy costume meant to impress an audience. He found himself enjoying the quiet, focused work, the simple act of transforming raw materials into something new and purposeful.
Shadow milk gazed at his work, he was done. It was perfected, but there was still something he needed to do but what? Shadow milk's gaze turned to his notes, flipping it open he took out his pencil and jolted down the creature's fighting style. The fight it had with black sapphire had wielded some uses he supposed, the creature showed to have a favour for close combat fights. Wait didn't it have a sword or something the first time they met? It didn't use its sword against black sapphire why? Shadow milk let out a huh thoughtfully, oh right...he kinda flung the sword far away when he blew off its arm whoops.
Well he suppose since he was already making clothes for it, might as well make it some weapons too. While Shadow Milk may not be much of a physical fighter himself but he knows in a fight every slight edge could make all the differences. He selected a supple, dark leather, as black as the creature's own hair, and a set of thin, gleaming blades of metal. As he worked, Shadow Milk couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement, the anticipation of seeing his creation wielding these new weapons in the heat of battle. So the night wore on, Shadow milk never slept, he didn't understand why he was putting so much effort into this.
As the sun rose, Shadow milk was already excited to show off his work to the creature. Going straight down and to its den, Shadow milk burst into the creature's dwelling his eyes wild with excitement and barely contained glee. With it being this early, knew that he was likely waking the creature from a deep, much-needed slumber, but he couldn't bring himself to care.
The thrill of his idea was too strong, too all-consuming to be dampened by such trivial concerns as sleep or rest He found the creature tangled in its bed of cotton fluff, blinking up at him with bleary, half-lidded eyes that were still struggling to focus. Shadow Milk paid no mind to the creature's obvious displeasure at being roused so abruptly, his grin only growing wider as he held out the completed gauntlets with a flourish.
"Wakey wakey!" Shadow Milk sing-songed, his voice dripping with mocking, theatrical cheer. "Oh my dear, I have a present for you, a gift beyond compare, a marvel to behold and to wield!" He stepped closer, thrusting the gauntlets and new clothes towards the creature as he continued his grandiose announcement.
"Behold, the fruits of my late-night labor, the pinnacle of my unmatched craftsmanship, forged in the fires of my own ingenuity and one that will be tempered by the unbreakable will of your own indomitable spirit! With these beauties adorning you, you shall be the very avatar of destruction, the embodiment of unstoppable, unyielding force!" Shadow Milk paused, as if expecting the creature to leap from the bed and embrace its new weapons and would be clothes with unbridled enthusiasm.
When the creature merely blinked up at him, still looking groggy and more than a little confused, Shadow Milk let out an exaggerated sigh "Oh, do try to contain your excitement," he said, rolling his eyes in a dramatic fashion. "I know it's early, but really, how can you not be thrilled at the prospect of wielding such magnificent, such..." Shadow Milk paused, as if searching for the perfect word, before snapping his fingers. "...such deadly beauty? Go on, try them on! Feel the weight of them in your hands, the balance, the... potential." The creature grumbles, sleepy "it morning..." Shadow Milk huffed, his shoulders slumping in a show of exaggerated disappointment as the creature grumbled its way out of bed.
He rolled his eyes, the action dramatic and overdone, a clear indication of his frustration at the creature's less than enthusiastic reception of his grand announcement. "Oh, spare me the morning grumpies!" Shadow Milk exclaimed, his voice dripping with mocking sympathy."Yes, yes, I know it's the ungodly hour of dawn and you'd much rather be sawing logs than accepting the gift of a lifetime from your devoted friend and benefactor." Shadow milk paused, waiting for any semblance of joy or excitement before he blew up "Oh come on! where's the gratitude? The excitement? The... the sheer, unbridled JOY at being presented with such magnificent clothes, forged by my own two hands, no less?"
He turned his back from the creature, a look of feigned hurt on his face as he dramatically declares. "I slave away for hours, pouring my heart and soul into crafting these, and all I get in return is a grumble and a stretch? I'm hurt, I tell you. HURT." Despite his words, there was a glint of amusement in Shadow Milk's eyes, a hint of the mischief that always lurked just beneath the surface. He knew the creature was still half-asleep, its mind fogged by the remnants of dreams and the sudden, jarring awakening, but he couldn't resist the opportunity to tease and cajole. Still, holding out the gauntlets with an insistent, expectant air. "I'm afraid your sleep will have to wait, my dear. You see, I have something far more pressing to attend to - namely, the solemn duty of bestowing upon you a gift of unparalleled magnificence and power. So, out of bed with you, and put these on. Now."
The creature rubbed its eyes before falling back down onto its back, "try to pull then," it challenges shadow milk to drag it out of bed. Shadow milk bristled, immediately grabbing onto its arms and trying to drag it out. Mind you, he isn't strong, but His pride and ego was refusing anything else but immediate compliance "Oh, you want to play it that way, do you? Very well!" Shadow Milk declared, his voice rising in pitch and volume as he struggled to budge the creature. "Stop being so stubborn and get out of bed! I'm not going to stand for this level of ingratitude, I tell you!"
The creature had a glint of mirth and amusement dancing in its half-lidded eye as it watched Shadow Milk flail about. shadow milk's face was slowly turned red from all that pulling, yet he was hardly even budging the creature. Shadow Milk, oblivious to the creature's entertainment at his expense, continued his one-sided struggle. "Come on, you overgrown sack of dough! It's not like you to be so... so... resistant! I know you're just dying to get your hands on these magnificent gauntlets, so stop being such a... a... lazy lump of dough and stand up!"
The creature finally relents, sitting up. The sudden change made Shadow Milk suddenly bereft of the resistance he had been straining against. With a startled yelp, he lost his balance and tumbled forward, his face smacking into the dirt floor with a rather undignified 'OOF!'. Shadow milk laid there on the floor for a second before jumping up again. Shadow Milk, not one to let a little thing like falling on his face into the floor dampen his spirits, he had quickly scrambled to his feet, brushing off his clothes with a huff. He shot the creature a look of mock indignation, as if to imply that this little tumble was all part of his grand plan.
"Well, it's about time!" he declared, brushing off the dirt "I was starting to think you wanted me to pull a muscle or something. Honestly, the ingratitude, the sheer audacity..." Shadow milk immediately turns back to the matter at hand and shoves the gauntlets and clothes back onto the creature "Come on! Go change, I need to see just how well you look in my work" the creature huffed at being commanded but it took the gauntlets and clothes, Shadow milk obviously left to let it have privacy while it changed.
When it called out to him to come back in shadow milk excitedly enters to take a look, it was absolutely perfect just as he envisioned Shadow Milk rose to his feet, a triumphant laugh escaping his lips as he clapped his hands together. "Magnificent!" he exclaimed, his voice echoing through the dwelling "Absolutely magnificent! I knew this design would be perfect for you, my dear. Now You can move like a ghost, a shadow among shadows. Invisible, silent, and deadly."The creature glanced at its gauntlets, clenching its fist and the blades pop out swiftly with ease. Shadow milk was quick to butt in "See how smooth it comes out? Like butter!" He laughs, the creature gazed at the blade and new clothes.
It'll admit, these were useful it nods it's head "not bad, very sharp" At the creature's praise, Shadow Milk couldn't contain his grin, his chest puffing up with self-importance and satisfaction. "Not bad? Not bad? My dear creature, these are the finest gauntlets ever crafted, and you have the audacity to call them 'not bad'? I'm hurt, truly hurt." Shadow Milk clutched at his chest, feigning a look of deep offense at the creature's underwhelming praise.
The creature rolls its eyes at shadow milk's dramatic actions "I use? You give sharp blades?" It asks, taking a look at the gauntlets testing out its integrity with a few swings, Shadow milk beams "of course its yours! Why else would I make them? Definitely not for me, I'm not built for physical fights" Shadow Milk encouraged, his voice rising in pitch and volume. "Slice, dice, chop, hack... do whatever it is you want to do with them! I designed them to be the perfect killing machines, the ultimate tools of destruction and mayhem. So go on, my dear creature, let your inner monster out to play! Let the bloodlust consume you, and paint the world red with the gore of your enemies!"
The creature rolled its eyes, amused but it got the Memo, it was checking out its new clothes while shadow milk watched. The adrenaline from fresh ideas and excitement was wearing off and now shadow milk felt sleepy? Tired? Wait tired? No no he wasnt tired right...? He swayed slightly from where he stand, no he wasnt tired he swears! The creature smiled at its new clothes, it wasn't as bad as it thought, turning around it was about to thank shadow milk when suddenly the other fell. The creature alarmed catched hold of the blue jester, Shadow milk's late night activity finally caught up to him now that the excitement and adrenaline ran low. "You okay?"
The creature asked holding shadow milk gently, just like when he was lady in Azure. Shadow milk gazed up at the creature bags under his eyes. With his lack of sleep he became hyper aware of the softness from the creature. he reached out drawn in by the warmth that emitted from it, it looked prettier then he initially thought. His hands felt the creatures lips, it was soft, so soft he liked the way it felt, the warmth that emitted, the strange rhythmic pulse and how soft it felt.
The creature's eyes widen and jolted back, releasing shadow milk who fell to the ground ah- shadow milk blinked the away the sleepiness as he realized how close he was just now. his face had been mere inches from the creature's now he was dropped onto his back on the ground. He could feel the heat of its breath on his face, could see the dilation of its pupils as it stared at him with a mix of surprise and agitation.
Shadow milk felt a sudden rush of heat to his cheeks, a unfamiliar sensation that caught him off guard. He quickly shook his head, trying to dispel the thought, his mind racing to regain his composure. He was quick to put on his facade and tease the creature, if only to hide the strange fluttering in his own soulstone. He chuckled, a low, melodic sound that seemed to echo in the small space between them as he sat up. "My, my, so sensitive! I do apologize for startling you so. It's just so fascinating, the way your teeth are designed. Like nature's own set of knives and forks, ready to cut through anything in their path!" He drawled his apology out, his voice dripping with a mocking, exaggerated tone.
The creature's frown deepened at Shadow Milk's teasing words, its eyes narrowing as it regarded him warily. It pulled back further, putting some distance between them, and Shadow Milk could see the gears turning in its mind as it tried to make sense of his sudden close contact and the strange reaction it had elicited. Shadow milk felt a flicker of something close to hurt at its reaction.
Shadow milk sighed standing up his hands raised in a mocking gesture of surrender, he needed to cover up this fast. "Oh, don't look at me like that! I meant no harm, truly. I simply wished to... appreciate the beauty of your form, as it were. A work of art demands close inspection, after all." He winked, his grin widening at the creature's obvious discomfort. The creature stared wide eyed, it lifted its hand to point. Out, shadow milk took the memo to get out of there now. Even as his own soul seemingly rallied against it.
Shadow milk was quick to leave its dwelling, pushing through the cover vines getting out as fast as he could. Shadow Milk blinked rapidly, his mind reeling as he tried to make sense of the strange sensation that had washed over him just moments before. What WAS that? Here he was, thrown off balance by a mere brush of his finger against lips? Why did he think those thoughts-? Why did he find the creature-
...It was unthinkable, unacceptable... and yet, he couldn't quite shake the lingering warmth, the phantom sensation of soft skin against his own. His souljam was glowing, pulsing. He took a deep, shuddering breath, trying to calm the turmoil within him. A part of him wanted to storm back in, to grab the creature by the shoulders and demand that it look at him, to confront the elephant in the room. But another part of him, the part that was still reeling from the unexpected surge of... whatever that had been, shrank back in trepidation. he walked back to his spire his body moving on auto pilot.
It was just sleepiness that's why he was affected, he was Shadow Milk! Beast of deceit! The great deceiver, the master of lies and illusions. He wasnt affected by such things, not like this, not ever. And yet... a small, traitorous part of him couldn't help but wonder, with a sense of unease and a flicker of something almost like anticipation, what might have happened if he had simply... leaned in just a little bit more.
Their greed sickens me.
From Whence you came
Chapter 9
Shadow milk had just finished drafting up his learning plan for the creature today, he couldn't help but smile feeling proud. honestly he couldn't believe it himself, him. Being a teacher again, he honestly thought he left his scholarly behaviour behind with his fount of knowledge days but alas, old habits really die hard.
Just as Shadow milk wss about to pack it up and head down he heads a Explosion, he blinked. The fuck? He quickly floats over to the balcony and looked down, seeing black sapphire and the creature engaged in combat.
Shadow milk felt a rising twitch of anger, did he not specifically tell black sapphire to N.O.T bother it? He was half tempted to let black sapphire perish by the creature's hands but something inside hesitate. With a growl of frustration, Shadow Milk began to descend towards the battling pair, his form moving with a speed and grace that belied his annoyance.
He couldn't let this continue, couldn't allow either of them to come to harm. They were both unfortunately too important too him. So now, he stood before the two glaring down at black sapphire cookie. "You know...I recall, giving...specific. orders as to...not bother it. So, black sapphire enlighten me on why your here?"
Black sapphire hesitantly stared up at shadow milk cookie, nervously gulping. "Master, I...I can explain. I only wanted to understand, to uncover the truth behind this creature's presence. I thought that by learning more about it, I could help you- figure out whatever you want out of it. I never meant to disobey your orders, I swear it!" Both black sapphire and the creature were looking tousled up, neither had held back during their cat fight.
Shadow Milk listened to Black Sapphire's explanation, his expression darkening with each passing second. He could feel his patience fraying, his grip on his temper slipping away. The audacity of this cookie, to think he could disobey a direct order and still claim to serve Shadow Milk's interests! It was a level of arrogance that made Shadow Milk's blood boil,
Shadow milks gaze flickered to the creature who was still bristled and agitated. In a flash, Shadow Milk had Black Sapphire by the throat, lifting him off his feet, choking him. His eyes blazed with fury as he leaned in close, his voice a low, menacing hiss. "You dare to disobey me, to put your own curiosity above my orders? Tell me black sapphire. Do you truly believe I need your help?" Shadow Milk's grip tightened. "I should end you where you stand, for such blatant disregard. I should cast you out, leave you to fend for yourself in a world that would consume you whole." Shadow milk watched as black sapphire gasped for air, struggling weakly in his grip
He paused, letting the weight of his words sink in. Then, with a growl of disgust, he released Black Sapphire, letting him drop to the ground in a crumpled heap. "But I will not. Because you are still useful to me, in your own way. I will forgive this transgression. This time." Shadow milk loomed over black sapphire who remained hunched over, staring at the ground in fear. The creature watched, while its expression had remained carefully neutral even as it narrowed its gaze at the scene.
With a trembling hand, Black Sapphire reaches up to rub at his bruised throat, his voice hoarse and ragged as he speaks to Shadow Milk. "I...I understand, Master. I am in your debt, and I will not forget your mercy. I will be more careful, more mindful of your wishes in the future. I swear it, on my life and my loyalty to you." Shadow milks attention had turned back to the creature, callously dismissing black sapphire. "See that you remember your place," Shadow Milk said coldly, turning his back on Black Sapphire. "And that you do not forget yourself in the future. My mercy is not infinite, and my wrath is not to be trifled with. Now begone from my sight."
Black sapphire nodded, slipping away silently not daring to do anything else least he incurs the wrath of shadow milk. The creature felt tense, though its gaze now turned to shadow milk. Shadow milks expression had...gentled, soften. He really hopes this interaction hadn't ruin anything, like break its trust he's been carefully curating, he clears his throat to speak "sorry about that," his tone carefully neutral "He acted without my knowledge or consent, and I assure you that such a transgression will not be tolerated in the future."
The creature shrugged and huffed, muttering out "it fine..." the silence was loud too loud. Shadow milk needed to salvage this, what to do his gaze flickered to its clothes now turned and dirtied. Right, actually it had only been wearing this pair and now once again its ripped and dirtied. Shadow Milk spoke, his voice softening slightly. "While I'm glad you seem to have forgiven already, I simply must make amends for this oversight. You cannot continue to go about in such a state, and I intend to rectify that." The creature looked at him curious. He paused, considering his options. Shadow milk puffed his chest up proudly "I will have new garments made for you," he said, his tone decisive. "Clothing that is more suited to your needs and the demands of your new life here. I will ensure that you are properly attired, as befits your status as my... guest."
The creature stared at him, slightly confused muttering "why need? Fix this, it is good enough" Shadow milk blinked. Was this lummox serious? Does it seriously believe one pair of clothes will last!? "one pair of clothes is not enough, just look at you now!" Shadow Milk said, his tone patient but firm. "Look at you as of now, your only pair of garments have now, after i sewed it up its back to looking like rags again!" He stepped closer, looking the creature over with a critical eye. "No, I decieded that i will have to ensure you have a proper rotation of clothing. At least three sets, so you always have something clean and serviceable to wear."
Shadow Milk knew he would need to be mindful of the creature's unique form and needs, but he was confident his tailoring skills is enough to create garments that would work for its body. Perhaps he would even have to design them himself, using his own keen eye and understanding of the creature's abilities. Meanwhile the creature was still not fully on board with the idea, scrunching up its face and muttering "your weird" Shadow Milk chuckled, amused by the creature's attempt at insulting him.
"Hah! You think I'm weird?" Shadow Milk retorted with a smirk. "Well, then i suppose that makes two of us. After all, it takes one to know one." He stepped closer to the creature, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "Now, let's get you sorted out with some proper clothing, shall we? I won't have my ward looking like a vagrant."
Shadow milk grabs it by its arm and drags it towards the spire. Shadow Milk led the creature into his grand spire, the towering structure of black and silver spires and towers that served as his stronghold and sanctuary. As they ascended the sweeping staircase, Shadow Milk's mind raced with ideas for the creature's new attire. He knew he would need to create something that was both functional and durable, able to withstand the rigors of the creature's active lifestyle while still being comfortable and form-fitting. As they reached the top of the tower, Shadow Milk ushered the creature into his sprawling workshop, a cavernous space filled with an eclectic array of tools, fabrics, and half-finished projects. At the center of the room stood a large, circular table covered in sketches and swatches of material.
Shadow Milk grabbed a sketchbook and a pencil, his eyes roaming over the creature's form as he began to sketch out his ideas. "I have a few ideas in mind," he murmured, "Something that will allow for a full range of motion, while still providing protection and support." He flipped through a few pages, pointing to a sketch of a form-fitting, dark grey bodysuit made of a sleek, synthetic material.
"This fabric is lightweight but incredibly durable," he explained. "It will hold up to the demands of your hunts and adventures, while still being breathable and comfortable."
The creature though, didn't exactly understand what shadow milk was yapping about simply kept nodding its head. Indulging shadow milks eagerness. The page turned to a sketch of a long, flowing cloak, the material a deep, rich black that seemed to absorb the light. "And this cloak will provide an extra layer of protection and camouflage," he said, running his fingers over the sketch."
The material is treated with a special coating that will help to break up your silhouette and make you less visible in low light conditions." Finally, he pointed to a sketch of a pair of tall, boots, the design sleek and streamlined, with reinforced toes and soles. "And of course, you'll need a good pair of boots to protect your feet and provide traction," he said, grabbing a pair of the boots and holding them out to the creature.
"Try these on, and let me know what you think."The creature rolls its eyes, "you seem excited. You plan from start?" It said as it puts on the new boots, Shadow milk waved off its comment "yea right, I'm not excited. This is just a side hobby of mine, I know a thing or two about sewing so making you more clothes is light work!" As the creature was testing out the boots, jumping up and down. The landing creating almost no noise, Shadow milk watched with a critical eye a smile spreading across his face "yes, those boots will do the job! Now your footsteps will be nearly silenced!"
Shadow milk then turns to a couple of fabrics, "I can get this done in a day just give me your measurements and come back tomorrow kay?" Shadow milk took out his measuring tapes and floated around the creature, marking each length. The creature stood still listening to shadow milks commands if it needed to lift its arm or anything. Shadow milk was slightly too eager to notice how close they were as he measured, but the creature noticed. The strange vibration that emitted from the creature quicken a little. Shadow milk's scent was not as sweet as the others, it was...more pleasant....maybe it's grown to like the scent of blueberries.
When it was done shadow milk was eager to push it out of his room and get straight to work. "I'll see you tomorrow alrighty!! Trust me, when i show you what ive create you'll be grateful" The creature had wanted to say something, but Shadow Milk had closed the door, His attention seemed focused on the array of ideas he has
.............................................................
The creature stood outside, looking at the closed door. A small smile forming at the corner of its lips, what a odd fellow it supposed. It turned around and bumps into a small white haired kid with two candy apple like accessories and the coying scent of candy apples. It tilt its head, she didn't seem exactly happy with it. "I dont know why....you better stay out of shadow milk cookies..." she was saying something, but some words were pretty blocked out fuzzy words it hadn't learnt. It just gave a confused look which seems to make the little girl more angry.
Just before she blew up at it that purple one appeared and picked her up, bowing and saying something before rushing off. The creature could still hear the sharp voice of the girl even as the two ran off. The creature sighed, is everyone in this place crazy people? Hm...no that would mean it's crazy too. It shook its head and decided to leave the spire for now.

................................................................
The creature was reading one of the many books it was given, its trying to learn as fast as it could. Knowledge is after all the most important thing, knowledge will help it discern those worthy of its trust and its enemies. It huffed putting the book aside, and laying down on its back. This world seemed to have the ever presence of sweet scents, it had clouded its sense of smell at first but it was quick to adapt, though it still was not a big fan of sweets.
The people of this world and its animals appeared to have some dessert like scent too. Though it did at least made them distinct enough to identify who is who from afar, the animals were far to sweet for its liking but beggers cant be chosers it supposed. Its thoughts drifted to its friends, its allies and its heart clenched one day it'll find a way off this world...a flicker of thought cross its mind as it remembers yesterday. Though this world isn't as bad as it thought....
Its eyes snapped open and immediately became alert hearing the sound of rustling bushes, it sat up alerted. Grey stormy eyes darts around trying to identify the threat. From the bushes, a strange purple skinned human(?) came out of the bushes. The creature's gaze narrowed, it seemed to be a being similar to shadow milk but the colour and the scent was different. Grapes? it was best if it remained alert and cautious
....................................................................
Black Sapphire's nose wrinkles in disgust as he approaches the creature's dwelling, the pungent aroma of the roasting marshmellow rabbit meat filled the air. He keeps his distance, not wanting to alert the being to his presence just yet. As he observes it from afar, he can't help but feel a mix of revulsion and fascination at the primitive scene before him - a cookie(?), engaged in such base, backward activity.
Up close black sapphire can see more of its features as it lifted its head. A scar bisecting its face, two pairs of black strips on each side of its cheek. It was staring at him, it knows he was here, black sapphire huffed the gig was up. Stepping out and getting closer to the creature, he noticed books scattered around its tent perhaps from shadow milk cookie.
"You there. Speak, what are you? What is your name?" Black Sapphire hissed impatient. He needed answers, needed it now Just how did this primitive being managed to catch the eye of his master? The creature's expression furrowed, gazing at him warily before speaking in a halting manner "why would I? Who are you?"
Black sapphire felt a twitch of irritation at the creature's avoidance, ugh name isnt important "You know what, forget it. Your name isnt important, What is important is that you tell me what you are." he searches for any deceit, any answers to his questions. The creature blinked, standing straighter, it looked at him, equally frustrated at being interrupted along with the question changing so quickly. It loomed over black sapphire it was taller then black sapphire.
Black sapphire stepped foward "What kind of cookie are you to be living in such squalor primitive way?" He growls, jabbing the creature. His eyes flash with a mix of confusion and growing anger, a vein beginning to throb in his temple. "I refuse to believe that shadow milk cookie of all people would find you interesting." Black Sapphire growls. there was something black sapphire was missing, something...It doesn't matter, if the creature won't answer then he'll just have to force it to answer. The creature growls, "do not touch me." as it was rudely jabbed by black sapphire cookie. it growls, sharp teeth bared it was not about to let itself get threatened so easily. Black sapphire scoff "how scary, do you truly think baring your teeth like a wild animal can Intimidate me?" He gripped his microphone close "is that all you are? A animal unable to have a proper conversation, just so you know. I have been master shadow milk's right hand for a long time. I have trained and honed my magic, you will not best me."
The creature reacted, its hands shooting out and grabbing black sapphire by the throat. Maybe he didn't think this far- the creature immediately wrenched him upwards and threw him against a tree, the tree cracked black sapphire groans. He narrowed his gaze. "Fine then you big brute. If you want to resolve this with violence" He spat, getting up dark magic swirling at the palm of his hand "Let's see just how well you fare against someone who can use magic."
The fight broke out immediately, black sapphire's wings unfurled behind him as he flew slightly up. The creature fighting style seems to be closed ranged, if he can fire off spells in a distance he could win. The creature snarls as he air camped and fired spells down below, its gaze turned for a way to knock down black sapphire. It dodged the magical strikes aimed at it, getting onto all fours to cover more ground like a dog. Any wounds sustained is quickly healed much to black sapphire's surprise.
It's gaze flickered to a branch before grabbing it, black sapphire watched warily still aiming a next shot. It snarls, throwing it upwards with all its strength like a javelin black sapphire didn't expect it to have the strength to hurl a large branch with so much force and had to quickly dodge it kept picking up objects trying to shoot him down. Black sapphire snarls what the hell has this thing been eating- Black sapphire summoned a powerful blast, firing off at the creature who took the hit. It shook off the damage growing angrier by the second, black sapphire remained safe in the air as he tried to figure a way to put that creature in its place- the creature bolts towards him and this time it launched itself at him with a powerful jump catching him by surprise. It's weight dragging him down, he tried to smack it off him but it only growls. It snapped onto his staff as they landed onto the ground in a harsh thud
Black sapphire was annoyed as hell Damnit this shit just can't stay down can it? The creature glares, as its sharp fangs bit onto the staff that was held between them, they wrestled in the dirt, both trying to get the upper hand. Black sapphire strains as the creatures superior strength started to overwhelm him. Just before the staff could creak a loud voice cuts through "ENOUGH! Both of you stand down NOW!" just in time to catch the creature off guard. Black sapphire used the opportunity to get out from underneath it
.The creature glares at black sapphire but did not attack, black sapphire rolls to the side before crouching on one knee as he stared at the cookie before him. Shadow milk, was glaring down at black sapphire who felt a shiver down his spine as he looked up at his master enraged expression.
Fuck.
From Whence you came Chapter 8
The morning sun rose, Shadow milk crawled out of bed ready for another day. Sluggishly stepping towards his desk and taking a look through the books he had dug up and cleaned from the library he still kept in his spire. He wonders what he should do today, perhaps he should teach more complicated phrases? Maybe he should finally get it a name? He blinked, remembering yesterday when the creature had stated it was still figuring that out.
Just as Shadow milk reached for the door, it suddenly burst open and a extremely over energetic cookie came bounding in. Candy apple cookie, she was all smiles and manic energy as always. It was, too early in the morning for him to have to deal with this- and he has plans for peak sakes! Ugh, he was quick to maintain his facade, mask any annoyance he held for this. "Good morning to you too candy apple, to what do I owe the pleasure to?"
Candy apple grins, like a jelly cat who's got the cream. She spoke, her high voice grated on his early morning ears "Well master shadow milk! You will be happy to hear that I, had done what you've asked! I've gotten that hopless blind bat into believing the lie of a beast binding ritual in the spire of knowledge! It won't be long before I lead him and his group of no goods here!" Shadow milk blinked at the announcement, ah- right pure vanilla. The soul jam! He...he forgot about it? He, forgot!? At the sound of good news shadow milk couldn't help but smile, no this was good right? Soon he could reclaim his other half, his birthright and yet why did he feel so worried? His thoughts drifted to the creature, a strange tightening in his chest bubbled. He pushed it down and quickly spoke "uh, yes..yes! Well done candy apple cookie...however, there's been a change of plans!"
He took a deep breath, thinking up some kind of excuse "I've been rather busy with the stray and I do not have time to...bother about that fool so, you should delay his arrival by any means necessary" Shadow milk Cooke stated looking bored and out of it, Candy Apple cookies expression fell as she heard what her master was suggesting "you mean, your going to delay your plans...? B-but why!? Don't you want your souljam back-? To make that- Thief pay for it-!?" Shadow milk sighed, a tinge of annoyance cross his face. He pinched the bridge of his nose feeling a headache just from talking to her "it's not a change of heart candy apple cookie. I will deal with that pest sooner or later." He looks at Candy apple cookie. Putting on a resolute face to ease her concern. "Its just that there are... other matters that require my attention now. Matters that I cannot ignore, no matter how much I may wish to. So for now, we will hold off on the attack okay?"
Candy apple cookie held a grimace on her face, though even as she pouted she dare not challenge shadow milk's order "I...understand master shadow milk" she quietly took a step out, the door closing after her. Shadow milk breathed a huge sigh of relief, ugh where was he again? He took a look at his desk, maybe he should draft a learning plan up.
Shadow milk felt a giddy feeling, he was...excited? Excited to teach? Him? He hadn't felt this way since his fall. But the way he put in so much effort to keep it interested to learn from him, to talk to him. From playing chess to their occasional lessons. He realised he had gotten close to it, far closer then he expected.
Shadow milk hums, the last time he taught someone else, maybe it was his fount days? That would be a long time ago, he flipped through the pages, trying to find more difficult concepts to bring to the creature. He needed to help it, wait- help it? Shadow milk shook his head. No no- not help...just- making sure his investments is protected, yea...that.
Shadow milk smiled, humming to himself as he got the materials ready this was his chance to mold and shape a mind free of prejudice and assumptions of this world. At the start he had wanted to simply figure out what made it tick, what would allow him to lure it to his side. But now, he wasn't sure if he wants just that
..........................................................
Candy apple clutch onto a notebook with multiple stickers and notes on it, muttering to herself "can't believe it, master had been so excited about putting that- Thief in his place yet suddenly he wants to delay it-!?" She hissed as she opened the door to black sapphire cookie's room. Black sapphire was there, relaxed, bored and checking his nails "oh Hush now candy apple cookie, I'm sure master shadow milk has good reasons for this."
Black sapphire had said smoothly, though if he was being honest[Hah] with himself he was quite curious about this stray too. Just what is it that made shadow milk so...invested in it? To willingly put a hold on getting the souljam back, the sole obsession of his master? Black sapphire twirls his staff humming to himself as candy apple cookie yaps on and on about how 'it's not fair' and what not.
Black Sapphire sighs dramatically, setting his microphone down on the plush velvet couch. "Oh, do hush Candy Apple! You're being utterly annoying with your whining. Our dear Master has his reasons, I'm sure." He adjusts his cravat, the dark purple embroidery glinting under the opulent lighting of the Spire's grand hall.Rising from his seat, Black Sapphire paces languidly, his bat-like wings swaying behind him. "I must confess i too am slightly. But we must trust in his judgment." He pauses, a sly smile playing across his lips. "As much as we are curious. Alas, we are bound by our Master's decree."
"C'mon black sapphire! We HAVE to figure out just how a mangy cur managed to get the attention of our master! Least we find ourselves falling out of favour. Having you as a rival was already enough!!!" Candy apple cookie whined, black sapphire was not one to disobey shadow milks orders yet..... A creature appearing suddenly? Taking his masters interest by storm?
Black sapphire looks out at the setting sun, Candy Apple's whines slowly tuned out. Something was going on, someone who doesn't belong in this plot. Hm...Maybe a walk wouldn't be so bad, "My dear candy apple, I will be retiring soon. I have plans that are far more important then listening to your yapping" He swiftly turns heels and walks down "wh- hey!? Black sapphire cookie!" Candy Apple's cries gets further away.
He says nothing more. As he steps out into the corridor, he allows his grin to widen, a glint of mischief in his eye. It wasn't like him to disobey a direct order from shadow milk, but this was something he could not ignore. he took off into the night skies his bat-like wings carrying him aloft as he soars down from the Spire of Deceit. The cool evening breeze ruffles his hair and clothing, but he pays it no mind, his focus singular. He lands softly on the ground, his clothes barely rumpled from the journey.
Adjusting and smoothing out the wrinkles of his jacket, Black Sapphire sets off towards the treeline that encircles the Spire. He strolls casually, as if he has not a care in the world, his hands clasped behind his back. To any onlookers, he appears to be nothing more than a dandy out for an evening constitutional, enjoying the crisp night air. He walks on, through the underbush intending to find the mysterious stray.
He pauses for a moment, cocking his head to the side as a twig snaps somewhere off in the distance. His lips curve into a smirk as he hears the faint sound of fire crackling, growing louder with each passing second. It seems his patience may soon be rewarded,"Let us see, then what manner of creature could have so captured Shadow Milk's interest."
From Whence you came Chapter 7 [Song Recommendation: Lemon Boy by cave town]
The days were long seeming to melt together, it had no idea how long it had spent here. Time was passed with its hunts, its occasional game of chess with shadow milk cookie and those lessons on this worlds language. The creature sighed, laying on the open field of grass it had found. So warm, it slowly closed its eyes letting its thoughts drift off, it passes the time by remembering the familiar scents of its home.
The wildflowers, the fresh air with no hints of sweetness, the people. It was slowly slipping away, how long had it spent in this world? He had already started feeling homesick. Its thoughts drifted to the scent of blueberries that seemed to stick to shadow milk cookie, it wonders partially if the people(?) of this world all smelled different or similar Now that he thought about it, it hadn't really seen any other people around had it? Or maybe their far away from any close villages. It had also yet to step foot into shadow milks spire, there was just something that told it not to go into. Maybe there were more of the same beings as shadow milk inside.
After waiting for awhile shadow milk had arrived "why hello there! Already seated up waiting for me? How delightful~" shadow milk playfully teased. The creature had come to expect this from shadow milk. The teasing, the playing. "I have question" it spoke to catch shadow milk's attention. "Mhm? What is it my friend?" Shadow milk leans in, a grin spreading across his face. "Do you have map? I like to walk find others"
Shadow Mills brow furrowed "wait wait, pray tell why would you need to meet others anyways? Thought you were quite self sustainable out here in the woods with your hunts and stuff and plus you have me for company!" He felt a slight surge of panic at first, keeping it controlled even as he tried to figure out why the creature needed to head to a village of all things. The creature to its credit responded without being Intimidated
"I wish to explore, get to know others and world" it stated truthfully, Shadow milk was about to shut that down not interested in letting it roam so far or interact with others, slightly concerned it may somehow catch the attention of the faeries with how...different it is but if he did say no or that he didn't have a map it could get awkward. He had all these books and not a single map? That lie would be exposed immediately with how sloppy it is. So with a dramatic sigh he reached into a half open portal for a map as he had no other choice. "fine I suppose I can grant you a map....you...Will come back right?" He asked, the last part softly to the point it surprised himself.
The creature blinked, looking up at him in confusion, the voice sounded...concern as if something bad may happen. it stared at him a moment before nodding "I will. You have lots to teach me right?" With that confirmation shadow milk expression shifts back to normal. "Alright then, be back before sundown sweetie" Shadow milk playfully joke as he handed a map over, the creature rolled its eyes and left. Just as the creature seemingly disappeared into the woods shadow milk's friendly smile slowly dropped. He slinked into the darkness
........................................................................
The creature hiked through the woods, following the map given by shadow milk. It was lost in thought when it heard a cry for help. It was quick to follow the sound when a familiar scent crossed its nose along with the sweet scent of chocolate cake. It saw a woman attacked by wolves and while suspicious it won't leave a person(?) to die. As swift as it could it attacked the wolves scaring them off. The woman was quick to throw her hands around it "oh a saviour-" it flinched at the contact its instincts reacting and it shoved her.
She stumbled to the ground with a gasp, she looked up at it offended "that's no way to treat a lady-! I was merely being grateful you brute!" The creature stared at her pupils blown wide, it took multiple deep breaths, calming itself making sure it would not Lash out at the ignorant woman. It sighed, holding a hand out "sorry, I not mean to..." she remained angered slapping its hand away rudely "because of you now my leg has been sprained! You will have to carry me." The creature stared in slight disbelief, sprained really? The nerve of people(?) To lie.
It sighed, speaking firmly "My push not cause such damage..." she glares at it, her hand over her chest "and does that matter? You still pushed me-" it cuts her off firmly, it straightens itself to seem bigger "you startled me, hugging me behind without any warn-" it gets cut of by her dramatic gasp "Oh chivalry is dead! The strong men bullies a weak helpless maiden" It stared in disbelief getting irritated at the stranger, but it does not Lash out, instead it held its anger back. "Fine, fine. I help" The lady smiles immediately throwing herself into the creatures back and leaning close "good! Now that wasn't so hard was it? Take me to the nearest village!" It rolled its eyes and adjusted to carry her properly. Its strength allowed it to carry her without much struggle, but as she remained close it couldn't help but notice a very familiar smell.
'Blueberries?'
It stared blankly trying to figure out if she was shadow milk or truly another person, the girl grew slightly impatient at its slow pace and smacks its head "what are you thinking about that's making you move this slowly?" It bristled at her demanding tone "it not important" it had muttered she rolls her gaze "it seems extremely important, especially with the way it seems to be taking all of your attention"
The creature huffed, deciding to ignore her words. It continued to walk, passing by some harmless flora and creature's till they finally come across the village. The creature felt its heart go a little lighter, finally it could put her down
.........................................................................
The Lady in Azure hops through the village, the creature forced to follow much to its own dismay. It huffed "you have yet to say name lady" she spun, humming "you have yet to tell me yours~" the creature's gaze narrowed at her avoidance of its question "I have yet to learn name" she huffed, crossing her arms across her chest "then you will keep calling me lady in Azure!"
The creature slightly bristled, it kept walking "why you follow me?" She slows her pace to walk besides the creature "because your my saviour of course! Your strong to, a helpless maiden like me need a strong handsome cookie like you to protect me!" The creature raised a eyebrow "we are safe now, out of forest" she scowls, waving it off. "Its a women's thing it seems"
Just then a ball rolled to its foot, it paused to stare. Just then a couple of doughlings came, flinching at the sight of a large odd looking cookie with fangs "hey..mr-...uh.." it stated at them. Lady in Azure noticed the kids tension and stepped in to ease it "owh don't worry darlings, my friend here doesn't bite he is surprisingly gentle" she looks at the creature with a expecting gaze but it didn't know what she meant. Making her twitch slightly in anger.
When the lady in Azure gestures at the ball it finally clicks in its head. It should kick the ball? It gently taps the ball with the tip of its boot, the ball rolling over to the kid who catches it. The kid smiled nervously and thanked the creature "thanks mister.." Before running back to their friends muttering about how weird it was. The creature stared in confsuion as the children played "What is that?" It couldn't help but mutter out to itself, though it appears that the lady in Azure had heard it "well that my friend is what we like to call football. Surely a person like you would have heard of a child's game." The lady in Azure has her hands on her hips, looking at the creature with a almost judging gaze.
The creature shrugged "no, I heard football...never played. Is fun?" It asks, turning its head to the lady in Azure. To shadow milk. Shadow milk blinked, the way it looked at him for help- It was almost like a glimmer of sincerity, a genuine desire for connection and understanding. For a moment, Shadow Milk felt tempted to let his guard down, to help the creature but that's not his plan isn't it- this was not important in the long run.
Still, he found himself speaking his voice gentled as he explained football "I suppose football can be quite enjoyable, though results would vary. The children seems to like it though" she murmured, her gaze in the creature who was nodding. She felt her heart clench, what was he doing..."tell you what, what if we go join the kids in a game? I can teach you a few tricks" The creature had a small smile spread on its face and it nods "yes, I like that" Shadow milk felt his soulstone skip a beat and he didn't know why. A small smile, too genuine to be a act cross his face, appreciating this moment of normalcy he nods "Alright, let's go find the kids and ask them alright?"
They found the kids playing and despite their initial fear at the creature for its sharp teeth and size they were quickly sweet talked and bribed by the lady in azure. The creature had played a couple of matches with the kids, at the start the lady in Azure stood aside giving pointers to the creature. But soon enough the kids started begging her to join the fray, 'she' struggled running in heels and in a skirt but she managed.
As the ball came towards him, Shadow Milk knew he had to act fast. 'She' reached out, 'her' skirt swishing around 'her' legs as 'she' tried to kick the ball with all 'her' might. 'She' felt a moment of triumph as 'her' foot connected with the leather, sending it flying towards the makeshift goal. But in 'her' enthusiasm, 'she' lost 'her' balance, 'her' heels slipping on the grass as 'she teetered precariously.
Just as 'she' was about to fall, 'she' felt a strong arm around his waist, pulling 'her' back from the brink. 'She' looked up to see the creature's concerned face, its sharp fangs glinting in the sunlight as it steadied him with a firm grip. For a moment, Shadow Milk found himself staring into those intense, otherworldly grey eyes, a strange sensation stirring in 'her' chest."
Are you okay?" It asks gently, the lady in Azure had too shake her head. She couldn't loose sight of her original goal for the creature like this. She gently righted herself and stood aside "why I am quite alright, thank you for the save" the kids in the background were giggling full of fun. The two watched as the kids finally wore themselves out and walked the other way.
Both of them were cooling down, still sweaty from all that running. Their walk led them to a fountain, where the creature finally spoke its head turned to look at the lady in azure "I had fun." The lady in Azure stares into the fountain, her eyes glinted with amusement and fondness "I am glad to see you've enjoyed yourself." She stood silent for a moment before speaking "you know...I enjoyed my time here too" 'she' spoke, a moment of unguarded honesty.
The creature stayed silent for a moment before it turns, slowly grabbing the lady in azure's hands in its rough callous hands. She looked right up at it as it spoke softly "thank you for doing this" The lady in Azure stares at the creature, a small smile slowly crept onto her face.
[Timeskip]
It was setting time by now and it chose to hurry back to its dwelling, where shadow milk seemed to be already waiting "ah! Well your back early, I had assume you'd try and miss your curfew. Did you meet anyone today?" The creature smiles walking over to shadow milk and sit down, "yea have" it said, no intentions of keeping his experience a secret. Shadow milk leans in close, a grin on his face spreading "oh? Do tell what did you do today?" The creature perks at the question that's been asked."Alot, I tell?" It sat down beside shadow milk who was smiling as if he already knew what happened. The creature drew image of a lady, albeit a little unflatteringly "I met a blue lady, she nice. Taught me about football, I played had fun" it drew the image of a ball and other stickmen around. It was smiling its eyes glint with childish amusement. Shadow milk stares, a genuine soft smile spreads across his own face.
"Sounds like you really had fun huh?" Shadow milk couldn't help but keep staring, the more he spent time with the creature the more it slowly seems to fit into his world. Why was he feeling like this...? What was he even thinking, but the more shadow milk stared the harder he found to look away.
The creature chatters on about its day, it felt good to just...talk once in its life, it wasnt a creature of many words...but this- experience... it never felt this way before having always self wallowing in some pain that never seemed to go away but today, it...got to experience something it never got to before. Shadow milk seemed to be listening in intently, though with how close he was it couldn't help but notice a very familiar scent...it was the scent of...
'Blueberries'
From Whence you came. Chapter 6
Day 6
-Today I intend to find out if its dietary needs is soley meat or if it can eat other things like fruits or vegetables. Sure it seems made to be predatory but many predator built biscuitmal have been documented eating plants before, viseversa with prey biscuitmals-
Shadow milk was with the creature, he finds himself spending much more time with it then he thought he was. The creature was cooking a dead marshmallow bunny over the fire, poking it with a stick when a bright red apple rolled over. The creature looked up at the offending fruit, then at shadow milk cookie who was smiling the way it looked at him as if the apple was some sort of trick. Shadow Milk couldn't help but chuckle, shaking his head in mock exasperation. "Come now, don't be like that," he cooed, his voice taking on a patronizing tone as he beckoned the creature to eat. "I thought we were past this, past these silly little games, the distrust. You can't possibly be afraid of a simple apple, can you?"
He leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest as he regarded the creature with a smirk. "Go on, give it a try. Prove to me that you're not just some dumb animal, incapable of understanding the gifts I offer you." Shadow Milk taunted, his words dripping with false encouragement. Though inside, he was pretty curious. Would it ignore him? Ignore the fruit entirely, the creature stood up and walked off. Shadow milk couldn't help but scoff and roll his eyes "fine, be that way see if I care"
Shadow milk turned to write in his notes when the creature returned with a sharp dagger. It took off the Marshmallow rabbit from the fire and skinned it, Shadow Milk grimaced slightly. Choosing to try and ignore the sight when it suddenly threw the skinned cooked rabbit at him. Shadow milk blinked as it picked up the apple and held it tauntingly before it took a bite of the fruit. Shadow milk coming to a realization couldn't help but smile. It was challenging him daring him to eat its offering just as it would eat his.
"Well played, seems I've underestimate you my strange friend." Shadow milk gave a mock bow, it won this time. Picking up the rabbit meat he suppose he have to follow through or he'd be admitting defeat. Shadow milk tried to act nonchalant about eating the rabbit but the creature can see his every grimace. Shadow milk's nose wrinkled slightly at the scent of charred meat steeling himself he took a big bite and tore off a chunky bit of meat. He grimaced every bite, the taste was gammy and slightly bitter. He was not used to eating such meals but he had no choice, swallowing it down and immediately sticking his tongue out trying to forget the taste.
The creature's face was definitely one of amusement, it howled with laughter pointing at him as if to say 'haha! Just look at the expression your making in the mirror' His expression must have been priceless, face scrunched up and lips curled back as if to gag. shadow milk couldn't help but sigh and shake his head wondering just how he managed to get here. "Yea yea, laugh it up. I'm glad at least one of us can find this situation amusing" Shadow milk grumbled, trying to maintain a facade of annoyance even as a slight tug of a smile came on his lips.
There's something odd about the way it laughed, Shadow Milk felt a sense of camaraderie. When was the last time he sat down with just relax and have a laugh? No, he had to maintain his composure, had to keep up the pretense of being the one in control here. Even if, deep down, Shadow Milk knew that he had been outmaneuvered by this strange and odd being.
Shadow Milk shook his head, marveling at the absurdity of the situation. Here he was, a being of immense power and knowledge, reduced to playing these childish games with a creature from who knows where. And yet, he couldn't deny the spark of enjoyment he felt at the creature's antics, the sense of kinship that had begun to form between them.
Day 7
-The creature appears to be a obligatory carnivore, it prefers eating meat over eating fruits and/or vegetables...-
Shadow milk paused half way in writing before looking up, he almost broke his pencil in two. He can't believe this, the creature being half naked in the distance. What is this buffoon doing, Shadow Milk walked over his gaze narrowing further as he sees the creature fumbled with its still torn shirt. Ah right- he had never once considered its wardrobe situation, being to focused on its biology. Seeing the creature fumbled with the thread shadow milk felt a unexpected feeling.
Was that sympathy...? No- no. Not sympathy, he was annoyed, right? Its technique was all wrong and it made he, the puppet master, master of making costumes and props a little agitated. Better step in before it makes a big mess. Shadow Milk called out to the creature, his voice tinged with a hint of impatience. "Hey, you big buffoon. let me help you with that," he offered, striding over to where the creature sat hunched over its makeshift sewing project. "You're going about this all wrong. Here, watch closely."
He demonstrated the proper technique, his fingers deft and sure as he began to mend the tear. The creature watched him with wide, curious eyes, learning the correct method from Shadow Milk's example. He couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction as he worked, a certain pride in his ability to take care of the otherwise independent creature, even if only in this small way.
The creature watched, wide eyed and curious, Shadow Milk smiled as he sewed, the now easy trust they had to be this close to one another without a attack. Shadow Milk couldn't shake the feeling that this moment represented a turning point in their relationship. A chance for them to move beyond the hostility and suspicion that had once defined their interactions. Shadow Milk paused mid-stitch, a sudden realization striking him like a bolt of lightning. The thought of considering this creature a friend had never crossed his mind before, and it left him feeling strangely unsettled. He blinked rapidly, trying to shake the notion from his head, as if doing so could physically dislodge the idea from his consciousness "psh yea right..." he muttered to himself, shaking his head vehemently. No, no, he already had plenty of friends- loyal minions who followed his every command without question, the other beasts as allies. He didn't need this strange, unpredictable being filling that role.
Shadow Milk's hand twitched as his mind raced with these thoughts, he had to admit though that the creature's presence in his life had not been entirely unpleasant. In fact, there were moments like this moments of unexpected connection and camaraderie- that left him feeling a strange sense of warmth and contentment. It wasn't friendship, exactly, but it was something, With a sigh, Shadow Milk tied off the last stitch and held up the mended garment, examining his handiwork with a critical eye. "There," he declared, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "That should hold you for a while longer."
The creature perked, immediately taking the shirt back and wearing it. Its gaze flickered to shadow milk and it nods, as if to say thanks. Shadow Milk couldn't help but feel a small swell of pride at the creature's gratitude, a warmth blossoming in his chest at the sight of the being's smile. He had to admit, it was nice to be appreciated for something other than his deceits and manipulations. For once, he had done something genuinely kind, and the creature had acknowledged it Still, he wouldn't let himself get carried away. This didn't change anything, didn't alter the fact that they were still two vastly different beings with little in common.
But perhaps, Shadow Milk mused, there was a place for this creature in his life after all. A small place, but a place nonetheless. Shadow Milk gave the creature a nod in return, a silent acknowledgment of the unspoken bond that had begun to form between them. Shadow milk allowed a small smile to form, he suddenly had a bright idea "ooo wait right here" he scampered out of the dwelling. It waited and a minute went by before shadow milk returned with a chess board. "Since I so graciously sewed your clothes would you mind trying a hand at a game of chess? Don't worry! I can teach you." Shadow milk grins. He had been eager in finding a new chess partner, yea so what if he had minions? it grows boring playing against his minions
The creature stared a moment before it could say anything shadow milk eagerly sat down "playing chess is a great way for us to get to know one another! Haven't you heard? The way you play the game is a reflection to your thoughts! Come on just humour me alright?" Shados milk sets up the chess board, the creature sat down. Its gaze flickering to shadow milk, a small smile forming onto its face.
"Alright let's start with the basics my friend, I promise to go easy on you" Shadow milk held a single chess piece to the creature. A feeling of camaraderie forming between them both.
From Whence you came Chapter 5
A day has passed since their small tentative truce. As much as shadow milk hated having to play nice for now, it's simply smarter to not draw it's ire. Though once he knows the ins and outs, its weakness...well theres no saying he'll play nice then. Shadow milk had convinced it to move closer to his great spire, it'd be better if it was inside but it didn't trust him enough to step foot in. He supposed its a small victory, least now he didn't have to always fly far.
Shadow milk watched as it seemingly set up a primitive camp. A rather crude dwelling made out of cakeroll wood and Mochi moss, good enough for shelter. Right now it seems to be gathering fire wood, shadow milk couldn't help but think how primal, how its so backwards. Shadow milk had offered it a space in his spire.
So Why would it willingly put itself in such a uncomfortable situation? It didn't matter in the end wherever it stays, so long as he can still reach it he wasn't complaining. Though that being said, perhaps he should give candy apple cookie and black sapphire cookie a heads up. Tell them that there's a stray outside running around, Shadow Milk hums floating back into his grande spire. He didn't want them to accidentally startle the creature away, he needed them to know that the creature is off limits.
Shadow milk appears in the doorway, to the well 'living room' of the spire to where the two minions were. He stepped through, emerging into the dimly lit room to find the two of them engaged in their own pursuits Candy Apple giggling to herself as she practiced her new act, while Black Sapphire polished his microphone, his eyes glinting when he notices shadow milk. Shadow milk clears his throat and speaks "Ah my dear minions! Oh how wonderful it is too see you today"
He smiles, floating over "man it sure have been awhile! How have you two been? Practicing your lies and acts I sure do hope" Shadow milk smiles, ready to cut to the chase "my friends, I have come to give word...its a matter of some delicacy. There is a...stray, that has taken up residence near the spire. I want you both to leave it be." Black Sapphire cookie couldn't help but raise a eyebrow, meanwhile candy apple cookie jumps eyes gleaming and sparkling "what kind of stray? Is it cute? Can I pet it??" Her voice was bubbly and grating to the ears.
Shadow milk rolls his eyes, this time firmly stating "No, Candy Apple. I mean it. That creature is not to be approached or bothered in any way. It is... special, and I have certain plans for it. If I find out that either of you have interfered, there will be consequences. Do I make myself clear?" As candy apple cookie pouts black sapphire couldn't help but ask "Master...is this, supposed stray apart of your grand scheme..?"
Shadow milk nods, failing his hand into the air dramatically "why yes black sapphire cookie! You are intelligent and sharp as always. See I plan to cultivate it, it will take time and so I need you all to leave it be for I will not have you or Candy Apple ruining my efforts with your clumsy meddling. Leave the creature to me, and all will be well. Fail to heed my warnings and the consequences will be dire!" Shadow Milk turns back, already floating off. He knows and believes full heartedly that his minions will listen. Their a loyal and obedient bunch when he is serious he knew that he would have to be careful not to let them see too deeply into his motivations, lest they start to question his own choices and desires
With that done, he decided to visit the creature again. See how its crude dwelling is holding up, he believes wholeheartedly that there is, a mystery a silent strength in that creature just waiting for him to uncover. Shadow milk may not look like it, but he is a very patient man if he needs hundreds of years to solve this he is willing to wait so be it.
Day 5
-Ever since discovering that it could speak, I've started drafting up learning plans to teach it speech. I never expected that I'd be returning to the dusting libraries of my spire to pick out books and dictionaries. This is crazy! Look at all these outdated notes from my fount days, tsktsktsk-
Shadow milk had been giving it a few pointers, here it was seated eyes squinted and reading the books or well trying to read in exchange for the help its getting it allows shadow milk to be nearer, up close in personal without it snapping at him. Progress, huge huge progress. "I trust you've found the books I provided to be of some use?" Shadow milk asked, his voice curious "I know that learning a new language can be a daunting task, but I assure you, it will be a vital skill to possess in this world." The creature huffed but nodded, "ye...yes" it mutters, trying to get shadow milk off its back.
Shadow milk nodded, feeling slightly proud, sure it would be better if it could just learn how to speak a little faster but it's getting there. Shadow Milk leaned forward, his hand outstretched towards the creature. He could see the hesitation in its eyes, the way it slowly raised its own hand as if to ward him off. But Shadow Milk pressed on, his fingers brushing against the creature's doughy skin, feeling the strange texture beneath his touch.
It was unlike anything he had ever felt before in a dough. It was soft and pliant, yet with a certain firmness and resilience that belied its squishy exterior. Its texture was like touching some kind of rubber like gum. The creature watched him warily, its eyes searching his face for any sign of deception or ill intent. Shadow Milk met its gaze with a disarming smile, his voice soft and reassuring as he spoke. "Remarkable," he murmured, more to himself than to the creature.
Shadow milk just had to jolt down its texture in his notes, he wonders what world it came from. The rift it fell from, did it lead to a whole new world? A time separated from theirs, how did they evolve, are they all primitive like the creature he found? But Shadow Milk caught himself, realizing that he was getting carried away, lost in the throes of a theory that was little more than idle speculation. He knew that he needed to take things one step at a time, to approach this mystery with the same patience and meticulousness that he would any other scientific endeavor.
From Whence you came Chapter 4
Day 1.
-I the great shadow milk cookie, former fount of knowledge and now beast of deceit brings you this informative book On understanding the rifter!!![ugh, lamest name I've ever came up with.]-
-Questions: Does this rifter eat?
Does it drink?
Does it sleep?
Is its jam sweet or sour?
Is its dough soft, crispy or tough? Is its flavoured dough sweet, spicy, savoury, sour, bitter or something else?
Is it capable of speech?
Is it just as aware as a regular cookie? How smart is it?
Where did it come from?
What is the rift that it came out of?Are there more of it?-
It's been days since shadow milk's encounter with this creature and in time shadow milk had been restless in his observations, he jolted down the basic itinerary questions those that can be solved through basic observations. So even if he'd have to stay up all night to follow it as it stalks around the forest so be it.
Day 2
-Today it had finally did something and answered two questions. One, it does need to hydrate itself and two! It does eat! I've followed it on one of its hunts, it ignored me as always[a frowny face doodle] and focused more on its hunt.-
-It's hunting style seems to be a mix between stamina endurance and stalking, it had locked onto a rabbit and whenever the rabbit ran the creature would simply follow, not even chase just follow. After awhile the rabbit would grow tired and it'd go for the kill. How interesting isn't it? It's a clever tactic that saves energy and a rather primitive one.-
-Since It does eat and drink I wonder if it would sleep too?-
Shadow milk sighed, tapping the side of the notebook with his pencil. He had never really got to see it sleep, perhaps it doesn't need rest or grow tired. Maybe it's a light sleeper? Or maybe it just didn't trust him ell enough to sleep, which well that's fair. As the days blended together shadow milk found himself growing, bolder, he wasn't getting anything new and he needed something or he'll grow bored. So he started bugging it, talking to it even if he doesn't believe it could understand or speak.
Shadow milk followed the creature even closer now, right by its side as if they were best pals. His voice ringing through the forest as he peppered the creature with questions "c'mon just say something! Anything! Do you have a name? Do you really not need sleep? How do you reproduce? Tell me are you really incapable of speech or are you just purposefully being silent?" Shadow milk would press on his voice echoing through the trees
"You haven't slept a wink since I've been observing you. Either you are the lightest sleeper I've ever encountered, or you simply don't trust me enough to let your guard down. I must admit, your stamina is impressive. But tell me, is it natural for your kind? Or is it a skill honed through years of practice and experience?" Shadow milk's voice would only grow more frustrated the more he didn't get a response, perhaps he was pushing his luck. The creature may be getting more irritated but honestly shadow milk couldn't find it in himself to care.
The creature was bound to snap, anyone would if they'd have to listen to insistent yapping. It hadn't had a successful hunt because of shadow milk, the animals all hid at the sound of shadow milk's voice. The creature had enough, snapping at shadow milk. It growled and let out a harsh strings of rough gruttal sounds, it's face enraged, Shadow Milk couldn't understand a word it said but by the looks of it, it was definitely mad.
Though instead of fear shadow milk was further enamoured, so it can speak! Just probably not in his language. It was fascinating, a whole new language of another world even if it was used to rant and raved about him. Shadow milk eagerly listened, trying to decipher it, to learn it. It was like a puzzle to be solved, and he was eager to do so.
The tirade would end soon enough, it simply let out a final frustrated huff and curse in its language before it threw one final withering glare before it sulked away. Slouched posture and all while Shadow Milk grinned like a small doughling opening presents on Christmas day. Noting down the new language with joy, as he looked up shadow milk noticed its gloomy expression. The way it just sat on a nearby rock, hunched over.Shadow milk felt a flicker of...something, it looked sad, depressed? Does it feel sad? Shadow milk looked down at his notes, trying to shake off this...feeling. Shadow milk sighed, shaking his head to clear his thoughts. Its just a creature, it doesn't matter if it feels or not right? So why did he. Shadow Milk feel a flicker of sympathy[that he'll never admit out loud]? Perhaps the creature's plight was a reminder of his own isolation, the fact that no one will ever understand him. The creature is out of its own world, tossed here.
Shadow milk scowls, chasing the emotion away and with a shrug shadow milk floats over to a tree and settled down, he suppose he'll give it some space to cool down before bothering it again. Shadow milk watched the creature from afar, he didn't even notice his own hands picking up the notebook and pencil before he had started to absentmindedly sketch the creature's appearance out on a clean sheet of paper. He had watched its form hunched over on that rock, the sunlight filtering from the trees making the scene more somber. Its expression a frown, its form still and unmoving as if it was a memory.
The lighting was simply too perfect to pass on, the pencil glided across the paper as he sketched the creature's silhouette, the lines and curves of its form taking shape beneath his deft fingers, the creature didn't seem to be moving anytime soon and so Shadow milk found no reason to make himself comfortable seeing as it doesn't have any plans to move soon. As he drew, Shadow Milk's mind wandered, his thoughts drifting from the creature's possible emotions to the sheer beauty of the scene before him. The forest was alive with the sounds of nature, the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves a soothing symphony that seemed to put even the creature at ease. And as Shadow Milk lost himself in the act of creation, he felt a sense of peace wash over him, a rare moment of contentment in a life now dedicated to the pursuit of darkness.
Shadow milk heard the rustle of footsteps, his hand stilled and looked up, he finds the creature staring down at him. Shadow milk felt a flicker of irritation and with a roll of his eyes he spoke, his voice tinged with mild annoyance "what? Looking for something?" He knew the creature probably didn't understand him and it gave a sense of preserve sense of superiority "I suppose I should be flattered that I've managed to pique your interest, even if it's only to glare at me like I'm a particularly annoying fly buzzing around your head," Shadow Milk remarked playfully
It grimaced at shadow milk's tone, though it just shook its head content to simply ignore. It's gaze drifted to the sketch of it and pointed at it before pointing at itself. Was it asking if that sketch was it? Shadow milk scoffed in disbelief "Yes, yes, it's you," He said as if speaking to a rather slow witted child "Who else would I be drawing out here, hmm? We are, in the middle of the forest, with no one around for miles except you?"
He tapped the sketch with his pencil, his heterochromatic eyes glinting with amusement and a touch of annoyance. The creature's question, or rather its actions, seemed so rudimentary to him. Did it really think he would be drawing anyone else in the middle of the forest, miles from the nearest cookie settlement? Shadow milk watched as it finally click in its mind, he watched curiously as the creature ran off to get something. It dragged over a stick, Shadow Milk raised a eyebrow confused and curious. Just what is this silly stupid creature planning now...shadow milk watched as it started to draw in the dirt, its expression focused and determined. When it was finished whatever it drew it looked up and pointed, "y-..yo." it spoke, it actually spoke? Shadow milk blinked, surprised. He had not expect to actually hear proper words coming from its mouth.
The drawing looked much more like chicken scribble then a proper drawing, but it seems the creature is attempting to draw him as he drew the creature. Shadow Milk couldn't help but let out a bark of laughter at the creature's pathetic attempt at mimicry. The sound and the drawing was so far from his own that it was almost comical, and he found himself shaking his head in disbelief "It's 'you', not 'yo', you silly thing," he said, his voice dripping with amusement. "And your drawing is atrocious. I suppose even a creature like you needs to start somewhere, but I must say, you have a long way to go before you can hope to match my skill."
The creature scrunched its face up and frowned, hah its pouting. Though shadow milk suppose, he'll give credit when it's due. Its trying, trying to learn, adapt. With a sigh Shadow Milk stood up and looked up, making sure his eyes was at the creature's own eye level. He held out his hand, palm up, and gave the creature a small, encouraging smile. "Alright, alright, no need to pout," he said, his voice still tinged with amusement but gentler than before. "I suppose you trying is half the battle, as they say. Your drawing is...abstract, but I appreciate the effort."
Shadow milk found himself smiling as the creature begrudgingly accepts the praise, its interesting seeing vast emotions on the creature's face. He had assumed that maybe it had a permanent frown! They were getting closer...maybe that's what he should do-! Befriend the creature! Like how those simpleton cookies use to throw scraps and headpats onto the cakewolves, slowly domesticating them. He could apply the same logic on this creature.
Shadow milk glanced at the drawing, if he could befriend it, gaslight it into joining him at the very least... "look, I know we aren't on the best terms. But I believe that we can help each other. I get to study you and you can learn to communicate like a civilized being. Deal?" He offered, holding his hand out in a gesture of truce. The creature gazed at him it was hesitant and rightfully so. Shadow milk hasn't been a role model of goodness, but in the end it will accept it. After all it had no one else to turn to in this world.
As they shook hands shadow milk felt just how warm it was. for a moment, Shadow Milk felt a jolt of something almost like electricity at the contact. But he quickly pushed the feeling aside, focusing instead on the significance of the moment. He knew it was foolish to read too much into such a small moment, but he couldn't shake the feeling that this was the start of something new.
