I feel like Ilya would definitely get some “ball and chain” type of comments regarding Shane and at one point he ends up in a group of guys who start ragging on him when he's thinking about heading out early, calling him whipped, joking about Shane having him on a tight leash, and Ilya ends up just saying, genuinely confused, “do you guys not like your wives?” There’s complete silence for a second before Ilya continues, “maybe you should give them the chance to find someone who actually enjoys spending time with them." And then he goes home to his husband, who also happens to be his favourite person in the world.

Have we considered that Ilya's playboy persona may play into Shane making him chase that hole for two years? Like, sure, he's seeing pictures of Ilya exiting clubs with these gorgeous women on his arm but when that's over and done with, guess who he's still texting. Shane. It's Shane who he's salivating all over, just trying to get the chance to fuck him, and these women may have gotten the chance to have him inside of them but Shane's willing to bet Ilya hasn't given them a second thought since. Guess who he is thinking about. Shane. Shane who isn't easy. Shane who's making him work for it. And, my God, does he work for it. There's a thrill that goes up Shane's spine every time he makes it clear just how badly he wants it, because Shane is someone worth chasing.

And maybe there's a part of him that wonders whether it will all be over once he eventually gives it up. Maybe there's a persistent nagging at the back of his brain, telling him that Ilya is only in it for the chase and that once he's actually had Shane he will become just another notch on his bedpost.

Of course Ilya will never be completely rid of him. They'll still see each other on the ice. Shane is still the only person who can give him a run for his money there but maybe he'll just drag it out a bit longer. Just make sure that Ilya keeps thinking about him and everything he hasn't yet been allowed to have.

Ilya knows he’s a dead man the moment the words leave his mouth. But Shane’s reaction….oh, Shane’s reaction. It’s worth everything.

Hiding his phone at an awkward angle in his lap, he makes his move.

“Malysh,” he says casually, fighting back any hint of a smile. “I have question. What sport would you play if you were more athletic?”

And yes. Shane turns to him, face a careful, stony mask. Eyes flashing and slightly narrowed, mouth pressed together, he looks truly furious.

Ilya’s so fucking hard.

“More athletic?” He repeats through his teeth. “Rozanov, what the fuck?”

“Is simple question,” Ilya presses gleefully, making sure his phone is recording every second of this. “Like, if you were more…what is word?” He pretends to forget for a moment, then goes in for the kill, “Ah, yes. Skillful. If you were better, you know? What would you play?”

Shane lets out a hiss like a pissed-off snake, his hands clenching and his cheeks flushing red. “Ilya, I am a three-time Stanley Cup Champion. I’ve won the Conn Smythe Trophy. I was the youngest captain of Montreal in history! I–”

But Ilya’s laughter cuts him off, and suddenly all of his anger drains from his body, leaving only a look of utter annoyance.

“Rozanov.”

He’s crying laughing now, the phone shaking as he wipes tears from his eyes. “Yes?” he asks innocently, raising the screen from his lap, as Shane’s obviously figured it out.

“You fuckin’ asshole.”

“I have no idea what you are talking about, solnyshko, I just ask simple question to share with fans. Plus, you are so cute when you get angry,” he beamed, still chuckling. 

“Hm. See how cute I am when you have to sleep on the couch.”
