You were currently backstage, calming your nerves before your performance. There weren’t many songs that needed dancers but getting on stage always got your adrenaline high, even if it was only for fifteen minutes.
You’d been in the industry since age eight. The earliest memory you have of dancing was you with your mother in your small living room at only three years old. miracle how you remember that, sometimes you sit and think ‘what if it was just a very vivid dream?’ but your mother would reassure you, saying that you intact danced everyday with her. She signed you up for dancing lessons a little bit later at age four, from then on you never stopped dancing. Not even for a day, It was the thing you most looked forward to. Not playing with your friends, going outside, playing with toys like any other normal kid your age. It was always dancing.
As you grew older and older, when you were maybe eight and a half you became a backup dancer for the first time in your life. Sure, you had participated in a lot of competitions, won medals even but when you danced on stage without a stressful trophy you had to win something clicked. You’d still compete, as you still enjoyed it but being a backup dancer was something you cherished more than the money you’d win in first place.
Then, you and your mother made the sudden move of going from y/c to Korea. That’s where you first learned about k-pop idols. You were about eleven and three months when you auditioned to be a trainee at SM. You were there for four whole years of your life before you left for good at fifteen. You saw debut was nowhere close and you also did not enjoy singing as much as dancing, not even close. You had a decent voice, good even, after years of training and vocal lessons but it just wasn’t for you.
That’s when you went to the UK, got back into being just a dancer and started doing backup vocals as a gig so you could help your mother with the bills. School was tough, worse than in Korea even tho you had to learn a whole new language there, because you had almost zero time for studying. As you kept pushing through, gaining more and more recognition from artists for your dancing, your gigs grew from local to worldwide musicians. You were in flights to the USA constantly, starting online school to be able to graduate at just seventeen. After graduation your schedule was way nicer to you, making you able to attend even more concerts or shooting sets. You even worked with a few HYBE, Starship and SM artists.
So at only nineteen you were on your way to becoming one of the most sought after dancers.
It was the 14th of July, the last day of Pink Pantheress’ tour which you were a part of. Vicky was not only your colleague and employer but also your friend, so you were always front and center when she needed backup dancers. You took one last sip of your water before you and the rest of the crew needed to head up on stage. All of you were a bit emotional since it was the end of the journey you all had been apart of for months, but you all hyped each other up regardless.
“You’re up” one of the staff screamed over the loud music, making you all run up onto stage. You got into positions, adrenaline flowing through your veins at full speed. Huge smile on your face, which was something you went viral for in one of Ariana Grande’s concerts a month back.
The set list ended soon enough and Pink invited every dancer back up on stage for the final goodbye to the audience. You waved at every person you could see, grateful as ever as the cheers were loud enough to hurt your ears. Your eyes scanning through the crowed when you saw someone somewhat familiar, a flash of blonde hair huddled up with four other guys screaming their throats out.
Eventually the goodbyes had to end and everyone returned backstage, a few dancers and staff already leaving to go back to family and friends or wherever they had to be. Maybe their comfy bed was calling them, just like yours was which you were hurrying to get back to before two hands on your shoulders stopped you.
It was Vicky, of course it was
“Leaving so early?! You didn’t even congratulate me yet!” She put her arms up, going in for a hug.
“Congratulations, Vick. Your voice was amazing as always” you exclaimed happily, wrapping your own arms around her.
“Thanks, babe. Also,” she started, backing up and letting you go
“I want you to be my translator”
“Cortis are here, i’m sure you know them, right?”
You had heard of them once or twice, as you were in the industry as well sometimes. You were sure you had seen them around the HYBE building a few months back, or was it another dream? why would you dream about them? you’re sure you’ve talked to one of them before though, no confusion there it wasn’t a dream.
“Yoohoo, over here!” Pink scared you out of your thoughts
“Uh… yeah, sure. Can’t they speak english well, though?” You were pretty sure they could, or maybe you were mistaking them with another group Pink was probably obsessed with.
“They do, still not all of them are fluent! Wouldn’t hurt having you there with me” She smiled at you, already dragging you to whichever room they were meeting her at.
You couldn’t help but sigh, walking close behind her before she stopped infront of a white door.
“don’t freak out” i teased, knowing she was a huge k-pop stan. She said something i didn’t catch and pushed through the closed door.
Inside were five well-dressed guys, two blondes, one being way taller than the other, one brunette one with a blue cap on which you couldn’t tell wether his hair was brown or black and the last one with his hood up.
“Ah, hello!” She practically screamed in joy, going immediately to shake each of their hands.
They greet her back before you exclaimed polite hellos with them as well.
Pink got into conversation with them, the tallest one, maybe marvin? you weren’t very sure, went first. He was fluent and you caught a bit of an accent there, not being able to realise where it was from though.
You chimed in when the was need for translation but mostly the marvin guy did all the talking. James, who you’ve even spoken to before spoke a lot as well although his english worse than the other blonde’s.
You spiked conversation with all of them expect the tallest, who seemed a bit… nervous to talk to you?
At last, he left the others to talk to Pink alone before joining your conversation with apparently Juhoon who was amazed at how good your Korean was even though you were a foreigner.
“Hey, Y/n right?” He started with an awkward… smile? or whatever that was.
“Yeah, and you’re… marvin?” You looked up at him, you weren’t short per se. but you obviously weren’t as tall as he was, he reminded you of that flop sombr a bit…
Juhoon next to him stifled a laugh, covering his mouth with his hand as he snorted. Oh no, had you said something wrong?
“Martin” he corrected, though you weren’t sure if he was offended or not.
“Oh my god, i’m so sorry… Martin, my bad. i’m really tired” You apologised, bowing which was a habit you couldn’t outgrew ever since you moved to korea.
“It’s okay, don’t apologise, really” he put a hand on your shoulder to stop you from bowing again.
The touch made you… nervous? were you imagining things or did he actually look a bit well, fine? No, he reminded you of Sombr. it had just been months since you last went on a date or had some action and you were tired from all the dancing you’d done earlier, snap out of it. he looked like sombr.
“Well, uh..” he retracted his hand quickly, fidgeting with his sleeve as his member looked at the both of you beside him.
“You did great up there,” he started before you cut him off
“all praise goes to Vicky, she’s the real star” you smiled looking at her briefly.
“Still, you did good. maybe you could teach—“ he was cut off by… we are charlie kirk? what? He suddenly got as red as a tomato as he quickly took his phone out his back pocket to stop the song from continuing. Right, his ringtone was we are charlie kirk, strange guy.
Juhoon, and the rest of his members groaned in embarrassment that their leaders had let you and Pink Pantheress hear his questionable..? ringtone as he started speaking in korean.
from what you could tell, it was their manager telling them to go outside because they had to leave. He hung up, quickly informed everyone and bid goodbye to you and Pink.
as soon as they left, you looked at her and you simultaneously started laughing.
“what the hell was that ringtone?” you shared through snorts with tears in your eyes.
“girl, i don’t know!” she laughed back, the laughter dying down after a few minutes.
“Well, i’m beat. My bed has been calling my name all day” You sighed, giving her a quick hug goodbye.
“Don’t forget to call when you’re in London!” she called behind your back and you gave her a quick nod before rushing outside to your car.
