The concept of possessed John being nicer than actual John is always funny to me in retrospect cause then you have Kevin later on realizing that those demons weren’t the real Sam and Dean cause they were also way too nice to him

When will SPN fans understand that the parallels between John&Sam and John&Dean are not because of some inherent evil nature which makes them a completely doppelgänger of their father but because of the circumstances around those characters which have led them to falling into flawed but realistic behaviours like their father before them, and that positioning John as some ultimate evil is a silly thing to do in the first place when he’s just like every character in this show, both victim and perpetuator of the cycle violence

Often wonder if the reason John was so hellbent on getting revenge for Mary’s death is because he wasn’t a particularly good husband when she was alive, which would also double as a neat little parallel to Sam, who becomes the obedient son John had always wanted only after John was gone.

He difference obviously being that Sam was for the most part reacting fairly reasonably to John’s objectively terrible parenting, and John was not acting in a way Mary would have wanted in the slightest

john winchester was really cruising around US backroads in that fuckass truck looking unshaved, teary-eyed, and mournful, concealed-carrying and not-so-concealed-carrying. sitting in diner booths alone in rugged workwear and scribbling notes in a journal, saying thank you, sweetheart, when the waitress tops up his black coffee. he'd be stone cold sober in bars after five shots and the only indication he's had any would be his rambling praise about his two beautiful boys, and then before you know it he's hustled someone at the pool table into debt. flashing that cig-stained smile when he wins, giving a short and snappy salute that hints at some type of service long ago, but you never see it when he leaves. one moment there and the next moment gone.
