Macaque’s grown a bit clingy in Wukong’s absence. Which is not very helpful in Bajie’s attempt to bring the monkey king back on the journey!

[ Eastern Light, the stone monkey and the golden cicada ]

As the stone monkey looks up at the starry sky, a tiny light slowly approaches the little monkey. The little monkey thinks a star comes down to greet him.

The tiny light is circling the monkey. A small gust of wind formed from its flapping wings.

Oh, it's a flying bug. More precisely, a cicada!

A golden-glowing cicada came to greet him.

They are favorites I LOVE THEM SM, so I make a what if or my jttw retelling version (if I can, why not). Here, Jinchanzi is already punished by being reborn and this is the umpteenth time.

Before getting to be reborn again, the soul of the golden cicada wandered. At that moment, just as the monkey was born, the golden cicada found a pillar of light on the eastward side and flew toward its source (that Wukong's eye beam)

It probably differs slightly from the lore itself

@tuima11 I read the latest chapter of the Field Guide and immediately dropped everything to draw Sick Tripitaka and his Gigantic Mug of Tea

I don't know what to say it just possessed me. My only wish is that I had drawn the mug even bigger.

Also dang it is weird to draw Tripitaka without a hat. It feels wrong. I feel like I've drawn his entire face incorrectly now.

The nonbinary and aroace flags are technichaly my personal labels for myself, but i feel like Wukong wouldnt really care about gender and i also think he wouldmt really be intoo relationships, but thats just my own opinion :)

No no but I think all of the disciples should have weird animal/demon mannerisms that baffle their poor Master every step of the way.

Like Tripitaka gets used to Wukong doing weird monkey things after a while but is completely taken aback when Pigsy gets really really excited about something one day and gets the zoomies (apparently very common in happy pigs). Or he's like "Wujing is basically just a really weird looking human" only to see Sandy drop something and casually bend over to pick it up in a way that would logically break his back in seven different places.

Or if he sees them all have the exact same weird reaction to something. Like they find something they don't understand and Tripitaka watches all three of his disciples tilt their heads at forty-five degree angles to study it with identical gormless expressions. They still have no idea why he immediately started laughing.

(idk I just thought it would be cute since Wukong likes being given pretty things if he gave pretty things to his family but was also kind of awkward and monkey-ish about it)
