how terrifying metamorphosis must be for the caterpillar has no concept of what it is doing, or what a butterfly is, or what will happen to it as it spins itself the cocoon. we r more alike than different

ooh doesn't that middle row spell glyph look JUST like the vortex constellation from the star map
yeah i'm Sure the continued viren-ezran parallels in their dynamic with soren won't go anywhere terrible. haha. of course
Happy Pride y'all
The reason most indie novels are written like the author is terrified of doing something wrong is because the overwhelming majority of indie novelists get their start by networking in the violent panopticon of the social media indie publishing community, which favours the people who are able to win at the social policing game.
Okay so this comment got me googling because I hadn't heard of Isabel Fall
And if you also hadn't heard of her go read this because uhh... Holy Shit
I had heard of the whole messed up situation with this story, but I hadn't ever read the synopsis of the story before, and WOW
This story sounds like it could have been a brilliant exploration of gender and warfare and violence but instead it was attacked by people who didn't know how to confront a story that made them uncomfortable, and the author faced horrible consequences.
It's so important to be able to deal with stories that give you uncomfortable feelings in other ways than just attacking it. Being shown new perspectives sometimes has feelings of discomfort because it's an unfamiliar way of seeing the world.
when people defend the “Cis white guy is default” thing like “He’s meant to be an everyman we can all relate to and project on!” kindly remind them the largest ethnic group in the WORLD is Han Chinese and the highest gender percentage fluctuates so if you want an ACTUAL “default” you want a 40 year old chinese person whose gender changes from year to year.
#give us the middle-aged gender fluid Chinese protagonist that we can all relate to and project on (via @mr-and-mr-pavus)
I've tried to be selfless as a king, but as a father, I have a selfish wish. And that is for you and Ezran to be free. Reject the chains of history. Do not let the past define your future, as I did. Free yourself from the past. Learn from it, understand it, then let it go. Create a brighter future from your own hearts and imagination.

no idea if this is an original thought or not but thinking tn about what if callum passed on damian’s illness to little sarai… like goddamn. i mean there’s just astronomical guilt/resentment-spiral potential there, and ofc the elephant in the room of the massive viren-soren parallel going on but also imagine callum post-diagnosis starting to paint little sky runes on her chest every day to let her breathe easier, completely reorienting his understanding of his magic towards keeping her safe & happy in a very urgent & ever-present sense, maybe trying desperately to teach her the sky arcanum himself so she’ll be able to protect herself that way, meanwhile there’s the possibility of a dark magic cure tempting him every day, especially if the sky spells don’t completely manage the symptoms. rayla’s helplessness as she’s rendered utterly unable to protect the child she swore to keep safe at all costs before she was even born. both of them terrified and treating her like glass. just really fun stuff!!!
Nazi Germany was over 90% Christian, yet "Hitler was an atheist" - so atheism is to blame for the Holocaust? It's this holier-than-thou persistent defense of dogma that gives us these horrors.
The crazy part is nowhere did hitler claim to not believe in gods. Hitler references god in his speeches. The idea that hitler was an atheist is literally an evangelical revisionist history effort to demonize atheists. Unfortunately for them there is no evidence for it- but unfortunately for us a lot of theists dont verify the claim before believing it to be true and then going on to repeat it to others because a lot of theists already hate us atheists 😬

Karim & Terry
My Strength for Honor
They've been 'training' for an hour, perhaps, when Karim finally lowers his staff and looks at the panting boy in front of him. "You're not very good at this, are you?"
Terrestrius wipes his brow, dressed down in a dirt coloured tunic and green hair slicked back with sweat. His hold on his staff is clumsy yet sturdy, likely from a natural affinity from the wood that made it.
Karim's hold is more sure but less stable, the wood charred slightly beneath his fingertips. They're not letting him hold a real weapon of course—it has taken months of good behaviour to be let out of the dark, dank cell he begrudgingly sits in, and let into the light of Katolis' newly constructed courtyard—and he is not used to the difference. The weight is wrong, the length unfamiliar, and he has to keep reminding himself he cannot channel fire spells through it.
That he is not allowed to channel fire spells at all, anymore, anti-magic runes still stitched onto his sleeves. Onto the thin bracelets encircling his wrists.
They are less clunky than his manacles, but they are still chains, no matter what the little king calls them.
"I told you," Terrestrius says breathlessly. "I'm not a fighter."
"Hm, you should be."
"And you're rusty too, Your Highness."
Karim wrinkles his nose; he has never been able to entirely discern whether Terrestrius uses his title as a sign of respect or as a poor attempt at a light hearted jab. Or both.
"I wonder why," Karim bites sardonically.
"But are you a warrior, then? In addition to being a mage?"
"I... suppose. I was raised to strong. To fight to the bitter end with honour."
Terrestrius blows sweat-dampened hair out of his eyes. "You sound like a Moonshadow elf."
"They are our lesser reflections, yes."
"I've met Moonshadow elves," Terrestrius expands and Karim rolls his eyes; yes, the assassin of the king who somehow gets to galavant around the palace because his daughter is the other prince's brooding bride. "They'd all kick your ass."
Terrestrius has been spending too much time with Amaya, lately, Karim thinks, and then wonders if they ever discuss him. But what does he care, truly? Since when has he cared what his sister-in-law thinks, or even what his remaining sister does?
"And it's not strong, what you're doing," Terry continues. "Life is about more than fighting—"
I am asking you to fight, to stay alive for me. For our baby.
"—and about way more than winning."
"And who taught you that nonsense?"
"My ma and pa, for starters. And then Lord Viren—the previous High Mage. He had to learn what a different kind of strength was. Said that my name was strong... when I told him I chose it."
Karim stops, a strange vulnerability on the other man's face. "You chose it?"
Terrestrius meets his gaze with just a hint of defiance. "Yes."
Karim considers. Many are Choosers, in Sunfire society—Kazi the librarian. Janai. She'd fretted over picking a new name for herself, till Khessa had grown too impatient and selected one from the few options still on the table.
He can remember the first time he'd ever said it. How right it had felt.
"It's a good name," Karim says at last. "Traditional, if a bit long."
"Well, that's why my friends call me Terry."
Karim sets down his staff, letting it clatter onto the courtyard. "I'm tired," he says, and Terry herds him into the shade.
They sit down together.
For the first time, the silence isn't uncomfortable, and when Terry passes him a cup of water, he says thank you.
Quiet, but there.
Hamlet adaptation where Hamlet is a vlogger and all his soliloquies are breakdowns he uploads to YouTube
… I am unironically here for this
this is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, he’s stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, they’re still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but they’re still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewer’s lived experience. They’re still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And it’s beautiful. It’s beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because he’s presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.
A post about this went round recently, and I’m delighted to announce she’s since come out as trans and goes by Jasmine 🏳️⚧️
