The Artemis II crew filmed an 80s sitcom style video on their way to the Moon
Astronauts are so funny man. Here's just a couple of things I've found hilarious from this past week of space stuff:
It's probably already been spread around here enough already, but in case anyone's missed it; 7 hours after launch, commander Reid Wiseman, dealing with tech issues, uttered the generational quote "I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one of those are working."
After fixing the issues that were afflicting the onboard toilet, mission specialist Christina Koch (who has quickly become my favourite of the four) laughingly said āIām the space plumber, Iām proud to call myself the space plumber.ā
On Easter Sunday, the Artemis II crew hosted a makeshift egg hunt, by hiding packets of dehydrated scrambled eggs around their Orion capsule.
The way the crew always makes sure to make it very clear they're in space when doing interviews. From stuff like Wiseman just hanging out floating sideways on screen or Koch letting her hair loose so it can freely span out flowing around her.
While in transit, the crew decided to record a parody of those bad 80s sitcom intros where everyone turns and smiles at the camera.
When the crew reached the furthest point from Earth in the mission, they jokingly clambored over each other in an effort to get to the far side of the capsule, so that they could individually claim to be the furthest person from earth.
At the same time, on the ISS which was at the time on the other side of earth, the 7 astronauts onboard had a light-hearted race to the far side of the station, making jokes about being the furthest humans from Artemis.
On the way back to earth, NASA actually managed to establish an audio call between the crews of the ISS and Artemis II (where they shared the above info), and Koch called one member of the ISS crew, Jessica Meir, her "astro-sister" as the two of them previously spacewalker together in 2019. Meir then responded I'm so happy that we are back in space together, even if we are a few miles apart" (a few here being 230,000).
While Jeremy Hansen was doing an interview, Wiseman and Koch were just in the background swatting the mission mascot (a little moon plush toy named Rise) back and forth between each other.
Apollo 17 vs Artemis II
Despite everything, it's still you.

That's really cool actually
#excuse me but are you telling me that the Apollo pic is made with the help of the SUN and the Artemis one with the help of the MOON??? #that's actually so poetic i want to cry
@gorandomshesaid wait i need to sit with this one. wait.

hey what's up with the "!" in fandoms? i.e. "fat!" just curious thaxxx <3
I have asked this myself in the past and never gotten an answer.
Maybe today will be the day we are both finally enlightened.
woodsgotweird said: man i just jumped on the bandwagon because i am a sheep. i have no idea where it came from and i ask myself this question all the time
Maybe someone made a typo and it just got out of hand?
I kinda feel like panic!at the disco started the whole exclamation point thing and then it caught on around the internet, but maybe they got it from somewhere else, IDK.
The world may never knowā¦
Maybe itās something mathematical?
Iāve been in fandom since *about* when Panic! formed and the adjective!character thing was already going strong, pretty sure it predates them.
Itās a way of referring to particular variations of (usually) a character ā dark! Will, junkie!Sherlock, et cetera. I have suspected for a while that it originated from some archive system that didnāt accommodate spaces in its tags, so to make common interpretations/versions of the characters searchable, people started jamming the words together with an infix.
(Lately Iāve seen people use theĀ ! notation when the suffix isnāt the full name, but is actually the second part of a common fandom portmanteau. This bothers me a lot but it happens, so itās worth being aware of.)
āBang pathsā (! is called a ābang"when not used for emphasis) were the first addressing scheme for email, before modern automatic routing was set up. If you wanted to write a mail to the Steve here in Engineering, you just wrote āSteveā in the to: field and the computer sent it to the local account named Steve. But if it was Steve over in the physics department you wrote it to phys!Steve; the computer sent it to the āphysā computer, which sent it in turn to the Steve account. To get Steve in the Art department over at NYU, you wrote NYU!art!Steve- your computer sends it to the NYU gateway computer sends it to the āartā computer sends it to the Steve account. Etc. (āBang"s were just chosen because they were on the keyboard, not too visually noisy, and not used for a huge lot already).
It became pretty standard jargon, as I understand, to disambiguate when writing to other humans. First phys!Steve vs the Steve right next to you, just like you were taking to the machine, then getting looser (as jargon does) to reference, say, bearded!Steve vs bald!Steve.
So Iām guessing alternate character version tags probably came from that.
100% born of bang paths. fandom has be floating around on the internet for six seconds longer than there has been an internet so early users just used the jargon associated with the medium and since itās a handy shorthand, we keep it.
Absolutely from the bang pathsāsaw people using them in early online fandom back in 1993 for referring to things.
I had been doing it for a very, very long time but never actually knew the actual name for it. This is exciting! I like learning things.
I am very glad this has been going around so folks learn the Lore, but also letās encourage it because then we get to say ābang pathsā more often.
Itās interesting to me that the order used in those early systems is the opposite of how emails work today. Instead of the user name being first, the user name was last
And yet, URLs essentially work the same way. Domain first then the particular site within the domain. Or a subdomain and then the site
And yet, the domain itself is small-to-big. E.g., not com.tumblr but tumblr.com, with the top-level category coming last
So email and domain names are small-to-big, but URLs, after the domain name itself, are big-to-small
Strangely inconsistent conventions weāve ended up with
Bang paths are also used in the Spore (2008) file system!

āEvery Pokemon is someoneās favouriteā Iām making a spreadsheet to see if this is true. Reblog with your favourite Pokemon in the tags.
Hereās the spreadsheet in-progress
Ok, mother of GOD that's a lot of responses and I am but one man with Excel. I'll update these ASAP but also some rules:
A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.
A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.
I'm literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post's meaning.
*in the most sarcastic voice i can muster*
I love midnight Laundry!!!
They should make the Olympics but like. every game ever.

Congratulations! You have been Isekaiād to the Pokemon World and you are now a Pokemon Trainer! Spin here! to find out your new Trainer Class!
How do you feel about your result?
HELL YEAH THIS IS SO COOL AND SO PERFECT FOR ME
Iām not sure if it really fits meā¦. But it is REALLY GREAT
This is awesome!
Itās pretty cool!!
Itās nice, I guess
I feel totally indifferent about it
This has a lot of positives and a lot of negatives, not sure how I feelā¦
ā¦Ehā¦
Could be worse, I guess?
This is perfect for me (derogatory)
This SUCKS, but⦠at least itās better than NOT being a Pokemon Trainer, right?
THIS IS TERRIBLE THIS IS ACTUALLY WORSE THAN NOT BEING A POKEMON TRAINER
I'm a veteran š
shooting myself immediately.
good news; veteran trainers don't kill people, unlike real world veterans! or just means you've been a trainer for a long time!
(un??)fortunately it also means nobody has fucked your wife while you were gone.
i love rougesweeper but im so bad at it :(
