Hi I've been raised from the dead by a new ice gay show how is everyone else doing
HUDSON WILLIAMS On The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (Jan. 7, 2026)
genuinely i do think it's crazy how this show hit every single mark for no reason other than pure love of the game. like this wasn't a money grab and it didn't think it would be a big success, jacob just read a book he enjoyed and thought huh i think that would be a cool thing to make into a tv show. and then he brought on hudson and connor and they're fresh and passionate and not bogged down by the industry yet and they instantly became best friends and wanted to just have fun bringing these characters to life. and they didn't have a huge budget but they did the most with what they had and everybody took the show seriously and everybody took the book seriously. the cinematographer worked his magic. the music supervisor managed to snag a well-known queer hit and an up and coming new release and old school gems that have been around since the 2000s. it's canadian to the core, built from the ground up. it takes russians and the russian language seriously. it uses sex in such a specific, meaningful way that almost no other show has done thus far, and especially not in a queer context like this. they interlaced every episode with callbacks and parallelism and self-references. they didn't take themselves too seriously. they took everything so seriously. there is love and care baked into the core of this show and it's deeply queer and it doesn't shy away from the horrors of toxic masculinity and hockey culture but it is also, always, a story of joy and love and happiness. and on top of everything, it's almost word for word, the original source material from the book.
like damn it's no wonder this thing has made us all insufferable and become a huge fucking success! so few productions in hollywood are doing it like this!!!
I understand that people have issues with ep 3, but I’m grateful for it bc it gave us the Scott/Shane fight and therefore all of these great posts on Tumblr.com
I am so emotional about Shane trying to tell his mom that he really, really tried not to be gay, that he just couldn't help it. Shane who has all these complicated issues with being gay, because it's not something he can control, like he does with everything else related to his body. He can't fine tune this. He can't fix this with focus, exercise, or diet, like he can with all his other problems, because everything else about him is being a professional athlete. It wrecks him because it jeopardizes everything he's centered his life around, it's not just the money aspect of playing hockey, but that Shane lives and breathes and eats and sleeps hockey, if he lost it because he was found out, what would he even have left? That's Shane's journey, to realizing that, as much as he loves hockey, he will come to love Ilya more. But right now, he's so devastated because he can't stop this thing that he can't control, this thing that's a problem for everything else in his life, this thing that he fears will make his parents upset because it's going to derail his career, like they put all this effort and time into him, and he's going to mess it all up. And when Yuna apologizes with such heart, because she loves her kid so much, that she's so sorry that she made him think he couldn't tell her, and asks for her forgiveness--Shane doesn't say, "There's nothing to forgive." It's, "I forgive you." That healed something in me. Not because Yuna was anywhere near being a villain here, but because Shane's devastation deserved acknowledgement and validation. He deserved to be an injured party here. Yuna was completely human and never really did anything wrong (I WILL FIGHT THE INTERNET FOR HER, her son is a high profile athlete in a world that will notice he's Asian, she's locked the fuck in on what kind of game plan he needs to survive what the hockey world will throw at him), but Shane deserved to be the one giving out his forgiveness. It was him saying that of course he accepts that she loves him and this can be put behind them, but it's also a moment of Shane not having to downplay what he went through and how much hurt he was carrying around. That the lack of support in his life deserved to be acknowledged as having real weight.
congrats shane hollander, you're gonna marry someone who will make you laugh and smile in the most desperate moments of your life 🥰💕
i think that was the closest our lines blurred between who we were in that moment and where they are in that moment. It was really beautiful, actually. i think we said a lot of things like, "i can't believe we've done this." i remember a lot of "i love you"s and "wow-i can't believe we've done it. i can't believe this happened."
"As it turns out, witnessing two young, exceedingly green actors be so free in and genuinely enthusiastic about the moment that they’re experiencing is as refreshing as it is endearing. Neither one of them is above it or blasé about what is happening, as you so often see once fame hits — nor are they dismissive of or embarrassed by the premium smut that they’re promoting. [...] Toggling between the show and the press tour has been a joyful respite from so much ugliness in the world — one can only hope the next nine days, and well beyond, will remain so. We need it. Maybe we even deserve it." — The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Heated Rivalry’ and the Art of a Truly Joyful Press Tour

in honor of Ronan's birthday and pynch's anniversary
some of my fave faces Adam Parrish makes looking at the birthday boy, the love of his life, his future husband:
happy birthday Ronan Lynch 🥳🥳🥳
‘They stepped into Adam's room; they made it no farther. In the dark, they tangled in each other for several minutes, and finally broke off when stubble had made lips sore.’
- call down the hawk
somewhere, in a better universe, little kid jude is getting measured by harold in their living room at Cambridge and harold is telling what a big boy he’s becoming
read this from harold's pov, then brother luke's
I love Pynch with all my heart and Bluesey is the only doomed lovers trope I’ve ever really cared about but this might be the most romantic thing ever
That look, man. Calla has 100% clocked Ronan Lynch.
