Yes tumblr can be a scary place sometimes but I feel like an overwhelming amount of twitter ppl are literally addicted to being angry
I know I’ve bitched about this before but
Everyone, apparently: It’s so great that now there’s a YouTube tutorial to teach you anything you want to do!
Me: oh my god GIVE ME WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS (with illustrations/even animated GIFs if necessary for clarity) THAT I CAN READ AT MY OWN PACE AND EASILY RE-READ BITS AND SKIP PARTS THAT DON’T APPLY TO ME. I CANNOT STAND YOUR VOICE AND FACE. I AM TRAPPED WAITING TO EVEN DISCOVER WHETHER YOU ADDRESS THE POINT I CARE ABOUT, LET ALONE FOR YOU TO GET TO IT. THIS IS TORTUOUS. THIS MIGHT BE TARTARUS. wait you did the part I need but I was so annoyed already it was over too quickly and I didn’t get it.
Please follow Rachie’s Ratirement Home on Facebook
Their best and worst rat of the week feature alone is enough to make it worth it
Good morning,
museums should repatriate artifacts belonging to living cultures and display reproductions instead
Good afternoon,
no one is entitled to the sacred art, tools, or costumes of another culture (save members of the culture itself) and nonsacred reproductions will serve just as well for the purposes of education and appreciation
Good evening,
having museums full of reproductions would be even cooler than having museums full of sacred artifacts because when modern craftspeople are able to replicate those artifacts, it’s usually because they still make the same items the same way today
this means that you could have description tags emphasizing that such-and-such item has been made by these people in almost the same way for hundreds of years
having museums full of beautiful reproductions takes the emphasis off of Things and places it on the People who make them, which is really as it should be
“Hands down, confidently after 26 years on the internet, this is the best thing I have ever found.”

Hey, let’s talk about debate a little bit.
I was a high school and college debater. Lincoln-Douglas, parli, humorous interpretation, extemp. I was on one of the top teams in the country. (I was not one of the top debaters personally, I was just okay, but just-okay at a high level. If you get me.) I’ve got trophies in being an “um, actually” dude.
And this is why I don’t believe in the power of debate for settling serious issues. Because teams alternate positions over the course of a tournament, but teams with better preparation and training tend to win no matter which position they take. The whole sport wouldn’t work if the morally right side of an issue was always the one with the strongest arguments.
(In fact, being personally invested in the rightness of your argument is sometimes a detriment, because you can get flustered and emotional while the other guy is projecting nothing but calm confidence.)
I learned to speak passionately about why the US needs to retain nuclear supremacy for world peace, and also to speak passionately about why the US needs to lead the world in nuclear disarmament. I can’t say “I can convince you of both,” because your own preconceptions are such a huge factor, but if you agree to be an impartial judge, I can absolutely convince you of both. The “but in the end the truth wins out” factor is so much smaller than you’d like to think.
This isn’t to say you shouldn’t ever engage in debate. If you think you can win, go in and kick some ass. It’s a valid way to present and defend your beliefs. But don’t trust debate as a truth-finding process. Don’t leave human welfare up to “whoever wins the debate.” Don’t get sucked into believing debate is somehow a morally superior tactic to deplatforming or protest. There’s so much style and technique involved in debate, it’s little better than saying “we’ll agree the truth is on the side of whoever wins this arm-wrestling match.”
Impartially moderated debate is a great college sport for people who don’t work out. But there’s absolutely nothing sacred about it as a political process.
“wouldn’t you rather earn something than have it just handed to you?”
Yeah when it comes to actual awards and fancy goods, but when it comes to basic needs, basic human decency, and accomodations, those things should always be handed to people. No one should have to “earn” those things.Value people as people, not base it on how much they produce.
yeah but that creates a severe dependency that could be exploited easily, and creates a slippery slope @musical-clarity
Actually studies show that people who live in places with universal income (who are given money with no strings attached just for being citizens) do far better work than those who don’t and are more enthusiastic to do work.
This is because they still want nice things and will work for those but the part of their energy that was devoted to worrying about if they have enough money to pay the rent and bills this month is now freed up to do other things.
Some people will always be lazy and take advantage of the system, but they are always a tiny percentage and it seems ridiculous to me to punish the majority and severly hamstring their abilities just because a handful of people will simply live of basic income rather than work.
It’s been tested a couple times. In Canada, in some European countries, and the results are always the same. There are two groups of people who show a statistically significant (Greater than one half of one percent, or 1 in 200) increase in Not Working and living off the guaranteed income. Parents of Children under school age, and full time students. Among ALL other groups, employment actually INCREASED. Why? Because guaranteed minimum income means that homeless people can get at least a basic low end apartment. It’s hard if not impossible to get an above board job without a permanent fixed address. Also more people were able to have and maintain a BANK ACCOUNT. It is often hard to get a decent job without an account that can accept Direct Deposit for paychecks. Also, lost work time due to illness and injury decreased across the board. It turns out if people are getting a decent amount of money each month they can A> afford to eat better, and B> obtain decent medical attention both preventative and emergency. Crazy right? So why hasn’t it caught on? Because it doesn’t directly benefit the people in power, and it increases THEIR PERSONAL taxes, their CORPORATE TAXES, and thus decreases their PERSONAL INCOME. So, because Jeff Bezos and Alan Greenspan might fall from making 100 billion dollars a year to making 99.8 billion dollars a year, it’s a hard NO and we can all fucking die.. The End.
tl;dr
TL;DR : people work better when they are living
it’s so funny how people get upset that gender is a social construct? EVERYTHING is a social construct??? go ask a frog what day of the fuckin week it is, he doesn’t know
i romantically stand outside your window and hold up my iPhone to blast our song. a 30 second ad plays first
me, with Spotify premium:
me, dumping a load of freshly washed but unfolded laundry on my bed: boy i’m sure gonna be pissed about this when i want to go to bed
I also want to make it abundantly clear this is why people say “fuck cops” and why “Blue Lives Matter” is bullshit. It may only be a “handful” of corrupt cops (which is also bullshit) but it’s the entire institution behind them that enables them and refuses to take any form of accountability. Every single cop is complicit. Every single one.
having cash is like having secret money. like whos gonna find out i’m buying tacos with this crisp $20 bill??? not my bank account, that’s for sure
