tipsy girl at the club is a kind of paladin
1. Immune to fear
2. Can give people stronger saves through a charisma based aura
3. Can detect evil
4. Can cast spells?
5. Can definitely smite.
The logic is sound.
On an ideological level I completely agree with maximalism as a guiding principle in home decorating, but on a personal level I think about having to dust all that shit and break out in a cold sweat.
hey did you know that uhh
i. the monster's body is a cultural body
ii. the monster always escapes
iii. the monster is the harbinger of category crisis
iv. the monster dwells at the gates of difference
v. the monster polices the borders of the possible
vi. fear of the monster is really a kind of desire
vii. the monster stands at the threshold… of becoming
oh shit i didn't expect this to actually get notes lmao
these are all direct quotes from jeffrey jerome cohen's "monster culture (seven theses)" (full pdf linked) i highly encourage you to read it yourself!
that said, while i think cohen's writing is evocative, it can be a little dense, so while i'm here, here's my capsule summary (you can also hear me talk about this in the first episode of my podcast) (listen to @ghostswerepeopletoo)
i. the monster's body is a cultural body - The monster is a work of fiction to be analyzed through tools of literary and sociological theory.
ii. the monster always escapes - As long as the cultural fear from which the monster stems persists, the monster will reappear in retellings, reimaginings, and sequels.
iii. the monster is the harbinger of category crisis - Monsters defy binaries and challenge easy comprehension or categorization.
iv. the monster dwells at the gates of difference - The monster represents the Other.
v. the monster polices the borders of the possible - Tales of the monster exist to discourage unacceptable or taboo behaviors.
vi. fear of the monster is really a kind of desire - Subjects can vicariously participate in the disruption of the social order through the monster.
vii. the monster stands at the threshold… of becoming - Within the monster we find information about the self.
“Do not draw me without reason. Do not wield me without valor.”
This must've been incredible
I really hope this is recorded somewhere somehow. I need Avery Brooks and Andre Braugher doing Shakespeare together.
I JUST FOUND A LATE ANTIQUE VERSION OF ‘LIVE LOVE LAUGH’ AND I WISH I WERE KIDDING
‘health, life, joy, peace, good cheer, hope’.

@todoeralindo oh no
listen anytime you think “people can’t always have been like this” you will be dead wrong
when my local friendgroup hit our late 20's/early 30's we all metamorphosed into ancient romans and/or redwall characters bc now whenever we have 'get togethers' ppl are always bringing over cheeses and crusty breads and cured meats and olives and grapes and ales etc
What do you mean all my problems can't be solved by cleaving things in twain with an ancient mighty blade. You're sounding awful cleavable right now.
Went to my LGS to preorder the LANCER physical book coming out next year and the owner didn't know what LANCER was, I felt like this
the whole point of a zine is that it's cheap to produce, amateur and homemade. if you're being asked to apply to participate in a print project, it is not a zine. if the final product is being printed and bound professionally, it is not a zine. if you are being asked to enter into any kind of licensing agreement more complex than "my work can be reproduced as part of this publication" it is not a zine. nine times put of ten if the final product costs more than $5 you have left zine country. im so serious about this.
this isn't snobby gatekeeping or imaginary semantic problems or whatever, this is an issue that has come up irl at cons and zine fairs local to me and which keeps coming up online. people who show up to trade fairs selling professionally printed $15 anthologies as 'zines' have a direct impact on the people trying to sell their $3 chapbooks at the next table over. submission based kickstarter projects that bill themselves as 'zines' exploit the connotations of amateur, punk production values to induce creators to work for less and eschew formal guarantees and protections they are entitled to.
"average knight kills 50 people a year" factoid is actually just statistical error. Average knight kills maybe 2 people per year. Manslaughters Gawain and Murder-In-The-Third-Degree Lancelot, who live in Camelot and kill hundreds of people a week, are outliers adn should not have been counted
me and the girlies discussing motifs and themes
Costume designer Annie Hardinge likely created this sweet little gown for the 2013 movie Austenland, where the piece made its debut on Keri Russell as Jane Hayes. It went on to be reused in the 2015 television mini-series Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, where Lucinda Dryzek’s Flora Greysteel considered it while holding it up to herself in front of a mirror. Suki Waterhouse wore it the following year to portray Kitty Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, though it can best be viewed in a deleted scene. The gown also had the distinction of being used in both the 2019 short version and the 2022 film version of Mr. Malcolm’s List, first by Olivia Caley as Lucy and later by an extra. It was used again on extras in the 2020 first episode of Belgravia, as well as the 2022 second season of Sanditon.

I love that this one is playing ALL the recycled movie costume hits. Sanditon. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. BOTH VERSIONS of Mr. Malcolm’s List. That dress has seen some things
Kinda feel like there's some untapped meme/reaction image potential from old horror movie trailers...
Everyone is nostalgic and no one is sincere. Do you get the idea
Reboots made by people that don’t respect what they’re rebooting. Punching down before buzz feed listicles punch first. Isn’t it weird that the princess married the prince after just meeting him? Isn’t it cringe that magic exists? Irony poisoning of childhood classics. Well that just happened humour. Say something true and beautiful or I will start throwing rocks
