There needs to be a conversation made about dc’s issues with women. There are so many examples of this but I’ll reference a couple and if anyone should want to build on this go ahead.
Cassandra Cain’s retconning in the one year later (OYL) storyline, they characterized her as a villain by simply stating Deathstroke gave her EVILLLL drug. AND THEN THEY FULLY REMOVED FROM THE CONTINUITY. And then they brought her back to New 52 but I could go into a whole rant abt New 52 tbh stupidest reboot imo.
Post flashpoint was a bit more graceful but we cannot deny she is still severely underutilized and is a wonderfully complex character that could parallel Bruce so well.
TALIA AL GHUL WAS TURNED INTO A FULL ON R*PIST. SHE WAS PORTRAYED AS A TERRORIST. Both of which are extremely racist stereotypes and I get it there needs to be a conversation made about women who are in positions of power such as that storyline but not like this. They assassinated her character purely on racist stereotypes and stripped her of her complexity. She was originally to be written as a woman torn between love (Bruce) and loyalty (Ra’s) and that gave her so much depth.
And this applies to so many characters, specifically female or female presenting characters who get the short end of the stick, such as: Stephanie Brown, Pamela Isley (Poison Ivy), Selina Kyle (Catwoman), Barbara Gordon, Koriandr (Starfire), Lady Shiva, Mera, Black Canary, Big Barda was basically written to be humiliated, Kara Zor-El, Imra Ardeen (Saturn Girl), Raven, Donna Troy even applies cus they never give her a proper story and reboot her to an insane degree, EVEN WONDER WOMAN DIANA PRINCE HERSELF HAS BEEN WRONGED. And there’s so so so many more characters.
Now I’m not saying all of these characters are currently being wronged as of this timeline but it’s undeniable they have been, each of these women have been there to either sexualize, misconstrue, or make the male lead seem stronger, better, smarter, etc.
