The Similarities between the witchers and transgender people
So— I made this "list" but it's purely self-indulgent as my attempt to cope with myself so please don't scream if some points do/don't apply to you — but don't hesitate to add some of yours if you think of something and wanna share!
Anyway, here we go:
First of all: the mutations. I feel like this one may need some further explaining so let me elaborate: Literally every person "mutate" a little bit in their life during puberty, but in the case of trans people, I don't really wanna talk about that and what happens to your body when you start HRT (I'll get back to that later, tho). Right now, I'm thinking more about the mutations that "make" you be trans. (Disclaimer: I'm not sure if this also applies to AMAB trans folks (but I'd say yes?), since my doctor only explained "my case" to my parents when I brought them over for The Talk™ and she used me as an example and I'm AFAB transmasc). Anyways, as I've my parents have been told by my gender therapist, there's a rare mutation that occurs on one of the unborn baby's chromosomes during the first trimester of pregnancy that causes may be the cause why the baby is born into the wrong body, with "male brain" but female body. (If I remember correctly, nobody knows for sure yet if that's The Cause™ of transgenderism but they're kinda sure it's somehow connected. Or I just may be completely off and wrong because I know jack shit about this and I'm just trying to interpret what I remember from the therapist's talk 🤷♂️) BUT! you could say my genes actually mutated some extra bit to make me who I am. Now, witchers are mutated after birth when they're kids/teens, true, so it's not exactly so similar even tho they've also mutated an extra bit. Also yes, witchers' mutations are intentional while trans folks' "mutations" in this case are accidental, but the witchers didn't really choose to be mutated and become witchers and I also didn't choose to be mutated and thus be "born wrong" so this counts.
Witchers are sterile. So am I (so will be I, more like - it's not done yet, but it'll be done, soon), so must be all trans people in the country where I live in order to be officially recognised and allowed to change their name and have access to HRT and GRS. Yes, you're reading that right - sterilisation of transgender people is still mandatory in this godforsaken republic. We're still fighting for a change of this "law" that says that trans person must be sterile in order to change their gender and be legally recognised as such. (quick note: I personally would actually still choose it even if it wasn't mandatory. Because of multiple reasons.) But there's a lot of people who don't have to feel the same and thus, I still want it to be a choice for everyone to make on their own, not a fucking necessity.
Battle scars. Yeah, we're survivors.
Witchers and trans people are both being hated and often feared (and in both cases —or at the very least in the case of trans ppl— it's for no fucking reason and I just hate it.)
Prejudice.
Rumours. Stupid untrue harmful rumours.
Hostility & hate crimes.
Just like witchers in their world, transgender people are (sadly) still seen as something "unnatural".
Witchers are often seen/referred to as something that was "made" or created (artificially). I always interpreted it in a way that there was a lot of work done on their bodies -on them- so they could do their work and be good at it and possibly not die and/or be killed easily. I feel like this also applies to trans people - there's so much work, so many changes done on our bodies (if we choose to transition) in order for us to pass, live and survive (I hate how often this applies literally.)
Up next: the witchers' potions. Witchers take those to enhance their bodies and senses and capabilities some more to help them during the fights. The potions give them a little bit of extra help they still may need even with all their mutations and witcher training - they mutate their bodies some more. And doesn't that sound just a little, teeny weeny bit familiar? It kinda does, right? So you could say the witchers' potions have some similarities to, say, HRT, right?? I mean, both the potions and HRT "enhance" the body and change it to be a little bit more "useful" at not dying; it "helps" the body to be a little bit more "useful", really. But the effects of both the potions and HRT also wear out after a while so you need to take it before every hunt regularly. True, HRT is more about the appearance and (wanted) physical changes while the potions are more about the capabilities and senses and physical changes are usually just byproducts/side effects. And true, witchers won't reverse their mutations if they don't take the potions for a longer period of time and yes, they can also choose from multiple potions and take only those they currently need at the specific moment, but hey, we can't have everything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (not saying that wouldn't be fucking awesome, tho). Also! witchers' potions are deadly for "normal" regular humans. HRT isn't really poisonous to "normal" cisgender people, but I'm pretty sure they really wouldn't want to take it since it would change their bodies in a way they most like wouldn't want to & will probably give them body dysphoria.
Lastly, The Witcher is loosely based on Polish (and overall Slavic) mythology, sceneries and settings in general - and I'm Slav (even tho I'm not from Poland) and I grew up in a small village surrounded by fields and forests so similar to the ones shown and described, so like, it's really hitting home for me. (this one has literally nothing to do with the list of similarities, I just really wanted to say that)
so uh, that would be it?
Again, I'm doing this for myself as a way of coping with myself. I'm not trying to enforce this on anyone. Relate if you want or don't, it's solely up to you, everyone is different. Being disrespectful was never my intention.
(all I'm saying is that I'm basically a witcher, ok??)
I'll just be adding some points as I go,..
Both witchers and transgender people are often seen as predators. Now, I don't know about witchers, but most of the time they're this big bad scary looking hulking mass of a man with scars and swords so it's kind of understandable why people are scared and afraid of them. It's the physical form, the fact that they can see the witcher is stronger than them and could overpower them easily. (Rumours don't really help, either.) But it's not the same with trans ppl, they don't see us as those big, physically scary people who could and will beat you to the ground if you talk shit. (we WISH we could) So instead people see as sexual predators. And let me tell you how utterly fucking disgusting it feels to experience something like this. I won't say that I'm entirely asexual, but I'm kind of sex-repulsed to some extent (ehh) so being seen as a sexual predator (that being discussed behind my backp and then being confronted with it) was one of the worst fucking things I've ever experienced in my life. More so because it's usually me who's afraid of being hurt in this kind of a way (there goes the person who doesn't really feel safe in neither men's nor women's spaces). Plus, this whole mentality is completely fucked up. What do you mean I "became trans" just so I can invade your spaces and then sexualy abuse you in there??? Fucking bullshit. Not everything is about you, I'm literally just trying to survive.

society progressed past the need for human language, from now on we only use Jaskier reaction gifs
+ bonus
Another year, another winter Geralt can’t gather the courage to ask Jaskier to put his plans to the side and spend the season with him instead.
Can someone recommend me a film/movie/tv series/anything really, with a short male/masculine hero/main character/one of the characters? Please???
I'm so desperate for literary any kind of representation I think I'm gonna cry 😔😔

a question for trans men and trans masculine people on HRT:
after starting T, how long did it take for your voice to change/get lower and finally stay like that? /s
Because I've been on HRT for about a year now and my voice did get a little lower yes, but it still sounds like shit and it's giving me an intense dysphoria because I'm being misgendered mainly because of my voice and I'm just worried that it's gonna stay like this...
any opinions?
Why is it always ‘queer people are projecting their identities onto characters’ and never ‘straight people are presuming that their identity is the default’?
I COULD NOT REBLOG THIS FAST ENOUGH
Happy Birthday Leonard Nimoy!!! (March 26, 1931- February 27, 2015)
I’ll never really understand why I was chosen to play Mr. Spock. In a metaphysical sense, there seemed to be a sort of inevitability involved…. When I was called to meet Gene Roddenberry, I assumed I was to be auditioned. I didn’t quite know how to react when I discovered that I was being ‘sold’ on the role
Out of touch Spock Thursday
Every Thursday, I take Pudge the fish a peanut butter sandwich. And today we were out of peanut butter! So I asked my sister what to give him, and she said a tuna sandwich! I can’t give Pudge tuna! Do you know what tuna is?
