How are MTA and Amtrak so bad at communicating to passengers?
This morning's display (hard to see in the glare) announcing that the 517SB had departed...even though it had not yet arrived. The tracker online said it was late (and it very much was), how did the display decide it had departed? Is it just programmed to assume timely departure? (😂🤯)
PWHL Sirens ramblings
I just looked at my old invoices for PWHL season tickets since I was looking at changing seats. [I did but just over and up a little.] No tickets for me for the first season - the location was bad for me. Newark is not the most convenient - absent a team in DC or PHL - still but it is easily reachable so I get to some of the games. Season tickets per seat were $260 for S2 and $275 for S3. Double defend end, row eight, so not the most expensive but good seats. For S4, the price for those seats has increased to $390 each, which is still a bargain for 15 games IMO, even if I know I will only make it to half of them maybe. That is a 42% price increase. I am curious what the decision making process was there. It’s not like players are getting paid more with the price hike. And it is also not as if the Sirens were selling out. So I am wondering how they determined the market will bear that price, or if the price increases are uniform across the league.
And the first phase of expansion rostering is done. Fillier, Kaltounkova, and O’Brien protected. Which makes sense. Fillier has been excellent and Kalty led rookie scoring even though she missed nearly all of the post-Olympics play. I am curious what the roster ends of looking like in light of the absolute makeover last season and all of the players lost in the expansion draft and free agency.

I’ve been thinking about Stratt as leader/organizer of PHM. I went into the movie blind. I am still not clear what her position was other than “In Charge”. As I was watching the scene in which Grace was kidnapped after she failed to persuade him to go, I thought of an older WW2 movie with Matthew McConaughey in which he ordered seamen to do work that would kill them - he and they both knew it and they didn’t want to do it but did it anyway because Orders. [In fact, early in the movie he was told he was skipped for a promotion specifically because he was perceived as being unable/unwilling to order seamen to undertake actions that were necessary but also might kill them. Getting over that was a Key Plot Point.] And I wondered about the gender choice and also command structure difference/choice in PHM. Because it was an authorial choice to have them apparently be outside an organizational structure in which she could order him to do something and his independence and autonomy would be irrelevant.
Anyway I had no idea of her post-launch outcomes other than a mention about a prison/conviction tattoo glimpsed in the beetle recovery scene that I read well after watching the movie. And I kind of wonder, if Eva Stratt had been Evan Stratt, would he have been tried and convicted too?
The book may address this and I will have to read it eventually. But I am very much thinking about the glass cliff for Eva Stratt.

You are a leach. Main St America was destroyed by Amazon. Competitors were systematically crushed. You bought the Washington Post and destroyed it for better billionaire PR.
Does one person need six pounds of strawberries? Does that matter? I have them. Went to a PYO place that I like and indulged.
The farmer at the booth said the strawberries were fine but they lost 25% of their peaches in the unseasonable late April frost. The vineyard nearby used bonfires and helicopter downdrafting to try to save their grapes but some places lost as much as 90% of their grapes.
Berries washed, then some whole to eat, some sliced in sugar, and some frozen. Tops macerating to make syrup. And my belly is full of the ones I ate while cleaning, sorting, and slicing. 🍓🍓🍓
4-1 Habs was not the score I was expecting to see when I tuned in late to the first period.
Perhaps 11 days off was not ideal for Andersen?
The ABC/ESPN broadcast of the Buffalo-Habs game is immediately improved by switching to the Spanish language broadcast. I can see The Human Thumb but can't hear him.
