Unfortunately model and I were only available on one date so was not able to shoot more than once.

FINAL IMAGES

These three images were chosen for the final three to be chosen from. 

Various coloured gels were used however the blue worked the best. 

In the end I selected the orange/red image from the second shoot. I felt as though it was the best shot out of them.

WEEK 3

WHITE PAPER - SHOOT 2

Image 1 - First shots of paper with the flash light coming through the back. Wanted it to be darker around the outer area of the subject

Image 2 & 3 - Still using the flash light and sync, outer area obviously darker and middle rather bright, liked the effect but still not happy

Image 4 - I thought that I would ditch the flash and just use the model light and turn to long exposure. With this technique the white light of the flash became an orange flame through the gaps of the paper. The result was rather interesting. 

Image 5 - Tutor suggested a mix of lighting types and added a phone torch light to the back where the studio light was on with the model light. This resulted in a mix of the orange/red colour from the model light along with the white from the phone torch light. 

Image 6 - I returned back to one light and was just playing around with floating another piece of paper around the edge of the paper. I tried various spots and movement but this one particularly caught my interest as it looked like smoke coming out of the “fiery” gap.

WEEK TWO

WHITE PAPER - SHOOT ONE

This lesson was dedicated to experimentation with some different things including the white paper. 

In the images 1 and 4, an origami design of a chatter box was used. It was shot with the paper background lowered over and onto the table top.The light source (studio light) was directed behind/above the subject. I did not like how it ended up at all. The subject matter was boring. 

In the images 2 and 3, a folded paper design was used. I rather like the use of reflections in images so I flipped the prospect sheet over to get the non matte side. Still the white background sheet was down however the table was moved further away with the prospect sheet on it. The light source (studio light) was one light directed at the white paper back drop and reflected forward through the prospect sheet. This ended up with a rather interesting result.

PORTAIT FINAL IMAGE

In this version of the portrait, the model was changed, and there is a more consistent colour scheme of clothing. There is still that casual feel to the image and again, soft lighting, the subject is facing sideways and facing the light. Making her seem happy, content and friendly. The subject could perhaps be an owner of a successful wine brand. It can be seen in the set up that a soft box was used again, with the diffuser sheet. This time they have been used on the opposite side. Also a feathering light has been used again like last time except it was used on the hair and to light the backdrop around the subjects head/hand area instead of the shoulder/elbow of the subject. I feel like the subject could have been a little further away from the backdrop but was again limited by the small space to work in. I did not do very much to the image in post/photoshop. I felt light not much was needed. A slight adjustment of contrast was added.

TRANSLUCENCY FINAL IMAGE

I decided to go with the idea of using wine glasses with water and food colouring. I tried multiple colours but settled for the more subtle colour one. I forgot to take an image of the set up. However, the white backdrop was down, the glass table top was used and the soft box was directed at and reflected off of the white back drop from the left side of the subject and onto the back/left of subject. 

In post i had cleaned up the background as (again, like in white on white) there was a few dirt smudges and footprints from other student use. I removed the line showing the edge of the table (where table ended and backdrop continued). Some lines and such on the glass and water droplets that were not wanted within the image.

BLACK ON BLACK FINAL IMAGE

I decided to use lettuce on the plate, and spray paint it mostly black as I still wanted some aspects of colour in the image. I felt like the green colour would pop and stand out to add a nice effect to the black on black image. As can be seen in the set up image, a soft box is directed over the top/right side of the subject. I used the glass top of the table as I thought it was a nice effect and that it would give a nice black background with the black backdrop behind it. The objects on the table (besides the subject) were removed once shooting. 

I think the image could be better still, and perhaps more suited to the specific task at hand. The left side of the subject does sort of lose a bit of detail in the black. I do like how black the surroundings of the subject are, where it seems as it the plate/lettuce it just floating in the black.

BLACK ON BLACK RESEARCH

I thought the item on the black plate was interesting and not quite sure of what I would be putting onto the plate. I also liked the aspect of a pop of colour.

Commercial Portfolio - Task 5 - Part 1

 This was the final image and the set up.

I decide on just the paper planes suspended in front of the white backdrop. I was unable to get a person in on the day to model for the other idea. As it can be seen. there is a soft box from the front/left to light the subject and a standard light to feather in-between the subject and the background. this was to simultaneously add some light to the right side of the subjects and to the right side of the backdrop as it was quite grey in previous images. I tried not to have the subject too close to the backdrop but was limited by the small space of the studio. 

In post production a couple more paper planes were added to fit the space I felt needed to be filled. Also the background was evened out as there was a few dirt marks/smudges on the white backdrop sheet. Another thing that was obviously done in post was to remove all of the strings/fishing line that was suspending the paper planes. They were messy and not complimentary to the image. It was intended the whole time to remove them in photoshop.

I was wanting to do something with paper planes or another origami/paper folding creation. So I found these two examples of high key. I thought they were interesting and within my capabilities.

Assignment 02 - The Commercial Portfolio

Due Date: 5:00 pm Wednesday 24 May 2017 - Week 12

Introduction

The portfolio will comprise of 4 new final images. They will be the further developed yet distinct and improved re-iterations of the images that were produced throughout the course and previously submitted for the Commercial Portfolio Development. The exacting specifications and guidelines of each image in the Commercial Portfolio will be briefed during the allocated lectures. A full online process journal will also be developed and submitted online.

The four images to be included must include an image that fits the description -

1. 1 x High Key / White on White 

2. 1 x Low Key/Black on Black

3. 1 x Translucency

4. 1 x Portraiture

FINAL IMAGE - TASK 4 - PORTRAITURE 

This was the image I felt worked the best out of the shoot. I was only able to have the model in for this one shoot due to her motherly responsibilities.

However, I just wanted to achieve a simple, casual business shot. Nothing overly corporate or serious. 

I lit the model with a soft box from the upper right with a diffuser sheet to spread and soften the light . There was also a standard light feathering off by her shoulder as I was losing detail in the shirt on the left side. That was was on the lowest it could go (5.0). I was aiming for dramatic ish lighting without it being harsh. 

The image could of course be improved as any image can always be improved. The pants could have been less crinkled, creating a too casual effect I feel. Also, I think the black top and white pants together created a bit of a clash and created a tad bit of difficulty.
