Holy shit. The Israeli whistleblower story CNN just broke is insane. I cannot believe what I’m reading
Rare firsthand accounts by Israeli whistleblowers cast light on the horrific conditions in the Sde Teiman torture camp in Naqab Desert. Palestinians are stripped down, blindfolded, forced in diapers, and forbidden from speaking. They are subjected to beatings and mental degradation regularly. So much depravity that has gone unseen. Doctors performing procedures outside of their expertise, amputations due to zip-typing of abductees’ wrists, having large dogs unleashed on them at night. Being fed food through straws. I can’t believe it. I am truly in shock. And this is just one whistleblower accounting of this. Who knows what else is happening beyond our knowledge
My heart is breaking into a million pieces
Worth mentioning that multiple Palestinians have recounted these stories before, as direct victims detailing their experiences. What's unique about these accounts from CNN Israeli whistle-blower is that they're from an Israeli, therefore people are more likely to take this seriously.
This last bit is the most heartbreaking to me. There's so much unsaid between these words. I don't know how to describe this. There were videos a few months back of Palestinians saying "Wallah, we love life" (in arabic) as a way to convince people to help them survive. Imagine how they got to this point to say this.
This is literally the core of what our fight for liberation means
When South Africa dismantled apartheid, it did not end with the expulsion of all white South Africans. They became part of the new South Africa, just without the criminal discriminatory oligarchic powers the apartheid goverment had. When Bolivia recognized its indigenous heritage and became a plurinational state, it did not mean that people of European descent were expelled in masse. It meant the recognition of the previously discriminated indigenous and mestizo people of Bolivia and the beginning of a path of integration and revalidation.
What I mean is that it's ridiculous to think that decolonization inherently means mass suffering and relocation, that's what colonization does. Decolonization is recognizing the crimes of colonization, but more importantly, material, political and social steps to give power and self-determination to the exploited native people who were victims of colonialism and imperialism.
In multicultural societies, you don't go like in that Peter Griffin meme with a skin tone chart and saying 'well, you go back to Europe, you go back to Africa, you stay here'. You build a new society on the paradigm of dignity for exploited people and equality under the law. People are acting like this is some sort of fantastic utopia instead of real initiatives that were done in living memory, with successes and failures, as all such initiatives have. One must ask why are some so insistent that multicultural societies can't thrive, especially when for most of history, societies were indeed like that. Consider why you think like that.

firefox just started doing this too so remember kids if you want to stream things like netflix or hulu over discord without the video being blacked out you just have to disable hardware acceleration in your browser settings!
for the people saying this might be too difficult: idk about chrome but in firefox it just goes
> open settings
> search “hardware acceleration” and there should only be one result
> uncheck use recommended performance settings
> uncheck use hardware acceleration
done!
Since I’m looking at the comments and seeing a lot of people asking what hardware acceleration is and getting wildly incorrect answers, here you go. This is what hardware acceleration is. It’s not DRM, and it’s not placing a limit on memory usage (unless you have weird definitions for both “memory” and “placing a limit”).
This is what hardware acceleration is:
“Do you just have a graphic for this on hand at all times?”
Yes. For this precise reason.
hey just to let anyone using firefox know! searching “hardware acceleration” in firefox settings doesnt do anything! you wont get anything whatsoever! you have to scroll down on the main general settings page to “Performance” and uncheck “Use recommended performance settings” to be able to uncheck “Use hardware acceleration when available”! signed someone who was extremely confused when trying to follow OP’s instructions only for there to be no results
Plenty of highly intelligent people end up getting sucked in to cults because they just wanted people to hang out with. There are antivaxxer nurses. Your ability to act on empirical reason breaks down fast if your social and emotional needs aren't being met.
Like, I reject this idea that people end up becoming tradwives or antivaxxers or cult members because they were dumb. These groups prey on people by filling the social and emotional needs of vulnerable people. They look for people who need help, and give it to them on predatory conditions.
Truth
Can’t think of anything smart to add rn that’s just the way it rolls half the time
For every claim about Pagan survivals in European / North American folk traditions and holidays, it's important to remember that there are at least three layers of cruft on top:
Sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Protestants trying to discredit Catholicism by claiming that it was secretly Pagan
Nineteenth-century Romanticists and Nationalists trying to construct an "authentic" volkisch identity by connecting everything to a remote pre-Christian (pre-Jewish) antiquity, and
Contemporary Neopagans and New Agers who want to maintain these traditions.

Y’know I reblogged this a bit ago and was saved from financial probation and getting kicked out of school because of it, just mere months from graduation. Got a call from the financial aid advisor telling me that they made a mistake with filing my account (or some other sort of clerical error) and said that, basically, they owe me money. Welp.
Last time I reblogged the money cat, I won two $100 gift cards at work.
Damn.
KITTY. YOU CAME BACK. AGAIN. YAYY.

I love when modern horror movies do this.
I was watching The Autopsy of Jane Doe. Let's play a game. If a coroner approached me with this symbol, what would I tell him?
Two big flags: That's a woven textile, and those are Roman letters. Most surviving Roman spells were written on stone or metal stele. Roman characters on papyrus practically screams North Africa, 1st-4th century AD.
Given, there is no textile on earth that could survive the stomach acid like this, so I'm assuming something supernatural is happening.
So north Africa, 1-4th century AD. That specific type of circle is clearly remineacent of Solomoic magic. The thing is. Solomonic seals were usually produced in an Egyptian milieu. Authentic North african magical characters usually have little loops on the end, because they're trying to imitate the ankh. Or they look noticably Greek.
Whats interesting to me, is that the symbol inside the circle is more Greek-Pythagorean than Egyptian. It's got that square capped with triangles. That's a neoplatonist sacred geometry thing.
Also, I have the movie paused, but I would bet money those numerals on the edges are supposed to correspond to bible verses. I would bet money one of them is supposed to be EX 22:18.
Which, if that's true, would mean that this isn't 1-4th century, but more like a post-golden-dawn reprint from the 1850s.
Official prediction: This bitch is supposed to be an 1850s American frontier witch. The prop designers get extra points if they want me to think she was part of the Salem witch trials, or some other sensational event like that.
I made it like 4 seconds before they gave me more sigils.
Apologies for the photo of my TV, but these are not authentic Greek characteres (meaning non-linguistic magical symbols.) That character in the very center with the floating strokes is clearly supposed to be evocative of a Hebrew letter Hey. (Potentially an Enochian letter Gon.) Even ancient Greco-Judaic magical practices never mixed alphabets like this. So this is 1000% a post 1800, post-Golden Dawn working.
This type of 8-pronged symbol doesn't appear in Judaic-derived magic. That's a modified reconstruction vegvesir. I still bet money they want this chick to be a Salem Witch Trials Victim, but afaik that symbology wasn't published until those mfers published the Huld Manuscript in 1860. Two centuries too late.
That 8-pronged symbol looks more like some of the planetary pentacles from The Key Of Solomon (the greater one, not he lesser), rather than anything Icelandic.
Oh that's a good point! I forgot about the planetary seals! Though, it would be pretty tough for a Salem Witch to get their hands on a manuscript of the GKoS. Most of the copies at that period were still in Hebrew lol.
Like, it could maybe be modified from this guy in the (probably) 16th century Hebrew manuscript.
The author of the spell in the movie could clearly read liturgical Latin. If they're modifying Hebrew language occult texts in 1692, they're probably a 2nd generation Cabbalist/Hebraist. In which case what are their Catholic asses doing in Massachusetts lol.
Some people on this website clearly see religion as the Good Woke Religions and the Evil Dangeous Religions. (Every week someone flips a coin to see which category Islam goes into.)
It is a bit fun to being up like, Arab Christians and watch their brains overheat like an old laptop. Like just you wait buddy let's talk about the caste system and it's relationship to Hinduism.
in the SHWEP episode on al-sakkaki they mention that like, classic sorcerer skill is compelling djinn but because djinni arent all muslim, theyre just magic fire people, if you want to compel a christian djinn youd use their christianity, "in the name of jesus..." if you want to compel a zoroastrian djinn you say "in the name of the light and the flame...", compel a jewish djinn you bring up moses. its awesome. im not sure how you compel an atheist djinn. maybe just physical threats
"I bind thee in the names of Smith and Wesson"
I do think doing philosophy is kind of inescapable. If you think people have different values and that living together requires some kind of non-violent negotiation between those values you're stuck doing philosophy. Do you wanna know if it's better to have a scientific theory with better scope but worse accuracy or worse scope but better accuracy? You have to do some philosophy. Are you the kind of creature that experiences moral indecision? You are once more trapped in the web of philosophy. I think people have philosophy in their heads as abstruse "counting angels" theorizing rather than thinking through the basic commitments that make up the fabric of ordinary life.
