So I keep seeing tme and tma discussed as abbreviations used for trans men (to my limited understanding at least) what do they mean and can you point me in the direction of where to learn more about other related terms?
TMA - Transmisogyny Affected. This refers to individuals who are affected by transmisogyny. This is trans women, cis women, transfem non-binary people, and femme-leaming intersex people.
This means these individuals are the high targets of TERFs and reactionaries. They are the targets of the most virulently transphobic harassment campaigns and the most vulnerable in the trans community and outside of it.
TME - Transmisogyny Exempt. This refers to individuals who are not affected by transmisogyny and only affected by general transphobia or none at all. These are trans men, cis men, transmasc non-binary people, masc-leaning intersex people, and femme-leaning afab non-binary people.
In the last year or so these terms have come under fire from transmasc people who took part in harassment campaigns against trans women because it identifies privilege they hold in the trans community in relation to cis society.
Because transphobic harassment campaigns and policies overwhelmingly target trans women, there has been a "grass is greener" attitude brewing in some trans men (specifically trans men who are miserable assholes) who resent trans women for getting all the attention, not realizing that attention is not to be desired.
itâs sooo funny when rude customers encounter employees who can deny them service for the first time.
i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mineâan N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.
so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said âdamn. never known a woman to chooseâŠpracticality over looks.â
And I just said, âoh. you can go, youâre not getting a drink.â And he said, âwhat???â
I said, âsir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.â
And he was so astonished he didnât even argue he just turned around and left đđđ» it was like he suddenly became self aware
One summer I was running ferry rides across a lake so people could see the waterfalls without walking 6 miles when a guy snapped my bra strap as he was boarding the boat. So i immediately threw him off, he started yelling for my manager, my boss cheerfully informed him that, yeah, sheâs the captain of the boat and she can kick off anyone she wants. He goes to storm off, looks expectantly at his girlfriend, and she just goes, âWell, IâM not walking six miles, Michael! Iâll meet you back at the car!â and sits right back down!!!!
The expression on his face when he was told that he couldnât get on the boat, then immediately told that his girlfriend was ditching him? PRICELESS. he just blinked at her and then stormed off like a child. I gave her a free hat and was like maybe rethink this relationshipâŠâŠ.
i once had this fucker come up to order a beer. while i pour it he shows me the wanky fucking chemical structure tattoo on his arm and heâs like âhey. you know what this isâ i was like ânah sorryâ (never cared abt chemistry in school, plus having to look at a some randoâs pretentious tattoo gives me the douche chills). he decides to respond with âheh. you must not read many booksâ
i immediately stop pouring his beer. i reply: âheh. you must not want this beer.â thirsty boy immediately starts groveling like a worm âplease please no i do want the beer im sorry im sorryâ believe me when i say it was one of the most pathetic things ive ever witnessed
I genuinely believe that part of why it has become so normalized to be openly callous and evil in politics is that customer service culture has trained affluent people that they can treat everyone they consider beneath them however they want and still be treated kindly.
I've always loved how the argument against comparing the Gaza genocide to the Holocaust always comes down to "The Holocaust was WAY bigger!"
And in a way it's true. Israel's not rounding people up by the millions and shoving them into killing factories.
Yet.
Israel's not disposing of the bodies at such a pace the smoke can be seen for miles.
Yet.
But what does Israel do that makes them comparable to the Nazis? Let me count the ways.
Zionism is little more than Lebensraum with a Jewish coat of paint.
The notion of "Greater Israel" which is Israel's plans to annex and colonize the entire Middle East is nearly identical to Hitler's plans for a "Greater Germanic Reich." A large section of the land in the middle east dominated by an apartheid ethnostate where everyone else has to be "removed."
Einstein compared the deluded and deranged fantasizes of Zionist parties to the Nazis as early as the 40's.
Israel sees literally any threat, no matter how small, as an existential one. This is a core tenet of fascism that many holocaust survivors have commented on.
Just as Jewish people have their own term for the horrific and unforgivable genocide inflicted on them, so too do the Palestinians.
IDF Soldiers have straight up told people their job makes them feel like a Nazi.
Quote from Israeli general Yair Golan - "If there is one thing that is scary in remembering the Holocaust, it is noticing horrific processes which developed in Europe, particularly in Germany, 70, 80, and 90 years ago, and finding remnants of that here in Israel among us in the year 2016."
Quote from Israeli defense minister Moshe Ya'alon - "The ideology of "Jewish supremacy", which has become dominant in the Israeli government, resembles Nazi racial theory."
Moshe Feiglin, a right wing Israeli politician, unironically quoted Hitler with regards to his opinions of the Palestinians - "As Hitler, may his name be erased, once said: 'I cannot live in this world if there is one Jew left in it,' we could not live in this land if even one such Islamo-Nazi remains in Gaza, and not before we return to Gaza and turn it into Hebrew Gaza." You literally can't make this shit up, they're out here quoting the bastard.
Tamir Pardo, former head of Mossad, compared the settler attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank to Nazi pogroms - "My mother was a Holocaust survivor, and what I saw reminded me of the events that happened against Jews in the last century.
And that's only a small list. The comparisons between Israel and the Nazis most frequently comes from Holocaust survivors, Jewish scholars, and Israel's own military commanders. The people committing this second Holocaust know this is exactly what they're doing.
Comparing Israel to the Nazis and the ongoing genocide of the Palestinians to the Holocaust is a neutral statement of fact.
They are Nazis. Any argument otherwise is little more than emotional blackmail.
twerfs will try to convince you that they are the silent majority but that couldn't be further from the truth. they are extremely loud but they are also very much the minority of opinion. this isn't to say we don't live in a transmisogynistic world, but i think it's important to remember that a lot more people will be kinder and more well-intentioned than you think. even people who are uninformed or misinformed will at the very least try to be kind, because people in general want to be kind to each other. there is hope, even if it is not as loud nor spotlighted as the hate.
i keep thinking about how one of my nurses after surgery, a cis woman, was so eager to talk to me about how she also got reconstructive vaginoplasty, to commiserate over the tribulations of the healing process, to be excited about the advances in medicine, to be happy for me. and she was older, and she slipped up occasionally with pronouns and deadnames, but she also always corrected herself and any other nurses who made the same mistake, it was honestly endearing and made me emotional how firmly and repeatedly she made note to everyone that while my chart said my deadname, my name was Zoe.
idk just. people in general will try to be kind, even if they aren't the most informed and even if they don't always do the best job. people tend to try. despite what twerfs want you to believe, you are not alone in a world full of people who will never accept you, your best options are not just a handful of people humoring you. people care, people love. and trans people have existed longer than any twerf has been alive, and nobody has succeeded in stamping us out. we'll always be here and we'll always be able to find happiness, family, friends, love, even amidst those who hate to see us happy. we're stronger than them, and most people would much rather us just be happy. even people who might not Get it tend to not Get blindingly intense hatred more. hate is easy and loud and makes one feel strong, but it's all empty lonely posturing. most people would rather just let us live.
Though I donât have a fear of dogs, I find it really sad and disgusting the way the phobia is treated at large. Cynophobia is one of the most common and debilitating phobias and it often forms in childhood, especially after a traumatic event. I grew up in the middle of nowhere with a lot of unleashed, untrained and/or stray dogs and I was bitten and knocked down by several dogs as a kid. Your dog might be your best friend, your dog might be a very good dog but that person may look at your dog and only remember being a helpless 6 year old child with a dogâs jaw around their neck. The fear seems irrational and hilarious to you, someone who has had mostly positive interactions with dogs but remember not everyone has lived the life you have.
So many dog owners are practically allergic to doing anything to alleviate human anxiety around their dog, even things that would greatly benefit the dog like keeping it leashed and not bringing it into high stress environments* without cause. If a friend told me they were afraid of cats, Iâd tell them it is best we meet outside of my home because that is a completely reasonable accommodation. There are so many horror stories about someone being told another person is afraid of dogs and repeatedly putting them in situations where they have to be in close proximity to a dog without that personâs consent because they think itâs funny or because âMy dog is such a good dog. Itâll definitely change their mind about dogs. This is like impromptu exposure therapy.â and it makes everything worse.
Someone being frightened and on the verge of a panic attack at your little Shih Tzu mix may seem like an amusing overreaction to you but those bitches (pun absolutely intended) do bite and the safest thing to do for that person and your dog is to keep them separated. You donât know what life theyâve lead.
*This post is not about service dog and handler teams. If your dog is a disability aid, it is the responsibility of others to Buck Up and Deal regardless of their opinions on dogs. This is about the epidemic of terrible dog owners taking their poorly trained dogs places and being completely inconsiderate towards others AND their own dog.
RIGHT! Someone saying âDogs are not my thing. Iâm a bit nervous around dogs. Iâm not fond of them.â is so different than wishing harm on your dog. Iâm a cat owner and Iâm very used to people who hate cats saying vile things about them but there really is a stark difference between âI donât really like cats.â and âI would love to sic my dog on your stupid fucking cat.â but many dog owners see anything other than totally loving dogs as a sign the person is inherently evil.
Transphobia is about to be signed into law in the UK. We can fight this.
I am begging the UK trans community and its allies to attend the Mass Lobby at Parliament on June 25th, 11am-4pm, organised by Trans Solidarity Alliance.
Last year we broke the record for an LGBT+ mass lobby of Parliament. Will you help us break it again? Join us on 25th June 2026 to demand be
The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or donât pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.
Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities about our concerns
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. It was a record breaking mass lobby and made us impossible to ignore. Let's do even better this time. Details under the cut:
Worried about what to say?
Bring your personal worries about transphobia being signed into law, and trans friends being excluded from public spaces. You are a living person who deserves dignity. Remind your MP of that. You will also get guidance and brochures from Trans Solidarity Alliance that outlines our demands. This is mine from last year.
Money issues?
Trans Solidarity Alliance provides a travel bursary that you can sign up for via the link.
Got a refusal or no response from your MP?Â
Come anyway! You can request a same-day appointment with your MP through a process called greencarding. They will come and see you if theyâre already in Parliament. Even if they donât, theyâre made acutely aware of your cause because you showed up in person. This is my greencard from last year.
Here is the EHRC Code of Practice in full. It's a tough read, but some highlights are:
Organisations canât provide trans-inclusive, single-sex services, or they risk being sued for discrimination.
e.g. domestic violence support for women including trans women, menâs rugby group including trans men (12.68).
Trans people will have nowhere safe to pee.
If youâre a trans man, businesses can't allow you to pee in the men's, and you can also be ejected from womenâs bathrooms if youâre perceived as a man. Vice versa for trans women. EHRC suggests a âthird spaceâ bathroom, which is discriminatory and unworkable for most businesses. (13.130-133)
Sports organisations must exclude trans people from single-sex competitions (13.73).Â
A womenâs only sports competition must exclude trans women because of their biological advantage or face potential lawsuits (13.74), but a trans man who has undergone testosterone treatment can also be excluded based on fairness rules (13.81).
Trans women are stripped of the legal definition of âlesbianâ, and therefore no longer have legal protections if theyâre discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. (2.50, 2.92).
Here is the Good Law Project's better explanation of the EHRC Code.
I have also made a PDF printout of QR codes for the government petition, email your MP tool, and mass lobby link to pass around your communities. DM me and I'll send it to you.
Strange racists and homophobes on the internet seem to have access to an alternate way cooler version of TV than me. "every white character on TV is in an interracial relationship" "every show has a gay couple in it" "main characters keep having to secretly be bisexual and nonbinary" "every show has gratuitous full frontal nudity" like damn promise?? What channel???
having audio processing issues is so humiliating like yeah i heard you and yeah i was actively listening but the problem is i dont know what the fuck you sayed
I've seen people say the reason newer versions of Windows are so pushy with updates is because people would disable them and create security risks. How true is this?
True, but also not the entire story.
So tech Youtubers and tech writers will freak out over the idea of no security updates, or if you ask them how to disable them warn you not to, saying your PC could be at extreme risk.
And indeed before Windows 10 took away the capability, one of the first things people did with a new PC was disable updates.
I know I did.
From Windows XP, to Windows 7, to Windows 8, I disabled updates on every PC I had. And the damage that caused was "Nothing." At worst a stray trojan or bitcoin miner worked its way onto my PC, but I got rid of it.
People freak out at the idea of their system not being "secure" and something getting in and damaging their PC, when in reality the most risky thing to install on your PC is the security update itself.
See, the reason people disabled updates so reliably was because from Windows Vista onward, Microsoft gained a reputation for releasing updates constantly, every other day, and which were buggier than a big bug bugging out in a dune buggy. There are hundreds of stories and news articles about Windows updates bricking people's PCs, deleting their personal files, or encrypting their data.
And a big contributor to these updates being so buggy is that Microsoft obsessively updates Windows 10 every other day. I lost couint of how many times I updated Windows 10, only for it to want to install MORE updates that very same day. Windows 10 spent more time updating than actually being used. Hell it wasn't uncommon for the system to reboot itself to install updates in the middle of being used.
Windows 10 had an ocean of teething problems at launch and almost all of them were centered around Windows Update, and we got a reminder of why everyone disabled updates in the first place.
This is not something they have learned from. As Microsoft goes all in on AI, their updates are getting buggier and more frequent, and people are turning to software like WUB or AtlasOS to get their computers free of this constant updating stranglehold.
Zealots will insist that not installing security updates is dangerous, but the fact of the matter is Windows security updates cannot be trusted.
So! This is a perfect case study in situations where you should be wary of misinformation.
Take a moment and ask yourself, a project like this requires a lot of time, money and dedication of resources, why would scientists dedicate that time to something that could just be done by a tree?
The answer is they wouldn't. So that means this claim requires further investigation!
This project is called LIQUID 3, and it's not meant for cities with wide open spaces, it's meant for cities like Belgrade in Serbia. These cities are densely populated and heavily polluted, to the point where pollution actually chokes out current trees and makes creating green spaces difficult.
Liquid 3 was a PhD scientists answer to these problems. The microalgae tank is intended for spaces where you either:
Don't have enough space to plant full trees, or
Don't have enough time to plant trees and wait for them to grow up.
The tank is extremely efficient when you consider the amount of space needed compared to the amount of CO2 turned into oxygen. The tank can operate throughout the winter. And most importantly, it can be quickly set up in areas that desperately need relief from air pollution NOW not in 10 years when trees are done growing. Children currently suffocating on polluted air can't wait for trees to grow, they need to be taken care of now, and Liquid 3 is one of the ways to take care of them. Depending on the species of microalgea used, a number have shown a pretty amazing capacity to pull heavy metals out of the air which is something trees can get choked up by.
The tanks aren't just tanks either! Liquid 3 have solar panels placed on top, they have lighting and mobile phone charging, and they work as public benches. The designers of it want to encourage green spaces where there's room, but where there isn't room or time, Liquid 3 can step in. Realistically, this isn't a replacement for trees. It's replacing boring metal city benches with new, cooler benches that also clean the air (and have at least some heating during the winter).
Not only that, but the microalgea that grows is native to Serbia and all that microalgea has a ton of great uses! It makes for great fertilizer, compost, wastewater treatment, cleaner biofuels and even for helping create new tanks for further air purification. They only require a quick algae divide once a month, and the produced algae can be carted off to where ever it's needed. This makes them effective solutions for areas that can't sustain complex installations.
So yeah, there's actually quite a lot of places that would like these. Lots of people currently breathing in terrible quality air would much rather have their boring city benches replaced with really fucking cool algae tanks that clean the air and can be used to help create + sustain future green spaces in cities. I dunno about you, but I'd take that over a dumb metal bench any day. Put these at every bus stop and I'd be delighted.
Serbian here living in Belgrade! This is all true and I've actually seen some of these around the city a few times. They're amazing at what they do and really cool to watch up close because you can see pretty swirling inside them. It's not only functional but aesthetically pretty nice as well!
if youâre a fat person not looking to lose weight, i love you. the weight loss industry is going bonkers right now and iâm proud of you for continuing to take up space. kisses u on the forehead
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
I'm almost afraid to ask, but can you explained what "baeddelism" is supposed to mean?
Gonna write this like a Wikipedia article
"Baeddelism" is a fictitious ideology created by Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists. Ostensibly the ideology refers to trans women who follow the belief that transmisogyny is the core bigotry from which all others evolve from, and that transmasculine individuals do not suffer from discrimination.
In reality no such trans women exist and the term is an example of a Big Lie to justify harassment, stalking, assault and murder of trans women by fomenting anger in trans men.
The term is often used as a way to smear and slander trans women who don't exclude trans men from their discussions about male privilege, or who criticize trans men for harassing trans women.
The technique of lying about the positions of trans women to anger trans men is largely ineffective on trans men who did not already have fascist leanings.
The term originates from "Baeddel" an old english term meaning "effeminate man" and which is used in the modern day as a transmisogynistic epithet.
