there are situations online and irl where adults will have to casually interact with children and the social rules for those interactions should be the same regardless of where they take place. talk to kids online the same way you do to kids irl. that's it. treat them like they're smart but they are still kids. encourage their choices and give them advice but don't manipulate them. adults and kids will inevitably casually interact so it is the adult's job to make sure they aren't a fucking freak about it.
