Porn is banned in the majority of Muslim countries as well, and women are treated worse than in South Korea. I doubt anyone claims that without porn misogyny would not exist (misogyny is a lot older than porn after all). However, porn is both a symptom and a tool that strengthens misogyny. I do not even have such big anti-porn stances. I think sex depicted in porn can be gentle, loving, and consensual (funnily, that type of porn is seen as lesser or "soft" and exclusively marketed for women). However, most porn marketed for men normalises sexual violence, like sex acts that are painful, dangerous, or humiliating to the receiver (women), and fetishes vulnerable women like teenage girls. When something is normalised, men start to expect it from women, and women start to feel the pressure to comply. Porn is not banned anywhere because it harms women, but because it is viewed as sexually immoral. It is the same when people think it is some sort of gotcha to say that radfems are conservative prudes for being anti-porn because conservative prudes are also anti-porn. But different people can dislike the same things for different reasons. I personally believe that if there was a way to stop men from beating their meat to screaming, suffering women, it would not erase other types of misogyny from the society, but it would benefit women's sexual rights. However, I do not see it happening without control like strong identification, and that would cause all kinds of other problems. It's better to just bring back good old shame and make watching porn embarrassing and weird - not this coddling porn-brained culture we are currently living.

seattle’s world cup hosting comittee (seperate from fifa itself) decided to designate seattle’s june 26 game the pride match bc it’s pride weekend in seattle. after this decision was already made, egypt and iran happened to draw this match. officials from these countries got super worked up about this because they are both very homophobic societies. no players or anyone on the field will be forced to acknowledge that this is a pride match, it’s just a thing that seattle is doing. iran and egypt officials are trying to get fifa to ban pride flags at the stadium but fortunately fifa has so far refused.

some misconceptions i’ve seen is that this was pinkwashing (which is crazy, countries that actually hate gay people that bad would never “pinkwash”) or an intentional troll aimed at the countries involved. neither of these are true bc like i said, the pride match was CHOSEN BEFOREHAND.

anyone who has a problem with seattle sticking to their guns on this needs to remember that at the qatar world cup, lgbt fans had to hide their identities to respect the “local traditions” there, so it’s only fair that others respect our acceptance of homosexuality. we could go further in pushing our local traditions, they’re lucky we aren’t making them listen to grunge music or put cream cheese on hot dogs.
