sorry, i sent this to doomspoon88 by mistake! just read that drabble/fic you wrote where lockdown finds starscream and newborn mission while screamer was still unconscious and loved it! accidental uncle lockdown would be funny as hell lol. that or if you go for angst, starscream dying or being dead when lockdown finds him and raises mission as his own sparkling. either ships starscream's body to megatron or just leaves and megatron finds the abandoned ship with the body in it sometime later?

Anyway, as I said over on that blog, I personally have no desire to ever write about Starscream’s death. Not a permanent one, at least. (I did make Megatron genuinely think he’d lost him in OFAM that one time, but that doesn’t count.) I prefer to reside in the realm in which Starscream has an immortal spark and will go on living forever and take his boyfriend/husband with him. I save all the painful character death stuff for my original novels. (Well............ most of it.)

Not that where I was going with this story was very much less angsty, tbh. I started writing this because I love the morally gray depths of Lockdown’s character as Spoon portrayed him in Mission, which I have ranted to her about any number of times. :P See, here we have this swarthy, worldly, really just scum of a space pirate—the sort of guy who would use a desperate creator’s sparkling to blackmail him into having sex with him—but when the other pirates decide they’re gonna kidnap Mission in that one scene, what does Lockdown do? He makes an effort to defend Mission. You could interpret it as Lockdown protecting Mission because he wants to turn him in to Megatron for a reward, but I prefer to see it as Lockdown having a serious soft spot for Mission.

Which is glorious for the angst because what do y’all think is gonna happen the day that Mission finally realizes what kind of arrangement Lockdown had with his creator, hm? Add to that the fact that, as we learned in between the lines of Thrax, Lockdown was actually sleeping with Starscream and Prowl at the same time, and Prowl actually has feelings for Lockdown.... There’s just a lot of room for complexity and drama of all sorts in here. 8w8

I headcanon that energon pink (or blue) is considered extremely provocative to cybertronians. Even most Decepticons don’t go there. Megatron’s “dead Autobot grey” is chilling enough, but it’s way more reserved and formal than lifeblood pink.

Even and especially in universes where Arcee is generally a sweetie, there’s this quiet understanding among her kind that humans are completely oblivious to.  It’s something like being covered head to toe in mafia tattoos and making no effort to hide them for “professionalism.” It doesn’t matter if she’s sweet or maternal or doing community service. Everyone knows she’s done something and it’s not buried in a dark, hidden past. 

Even knowing that the human cultures they find themselves in see pink differently, they just can’t shake the connection and fidget uncomfortably around pink-heavy color schemes.

My great grandparents met at the diner she worked at in Juneau, AK. It was the middle of summer. He walked in with his shirt off and sat down at the counter. She directed his attention to the "No shirt, no shoes, no service sign." He replied with a very serious face that it was hot outside. She proceeded to dump ice water on him and ask if that was cold enough for him.

Three generations later, I carry on their legacy by writing Megastar fics.

Like, I ain’t got anything against oviposition personally, but the realization that she straight up PUT OVIPOSITION IN A CHILDREN’S BOOK!!! I just want to say that “Dead Dove; Do Not Eat” is a criminally under-utilized tag, and is a quick and easy way to tell people that the tags you’ve used are not just warnings, but actual threats. As an example, the difference between “tagged for gore because of descriptions of a minor surgical scene” and “tagged for gore because someone was messily disembowelled” is huge, and dead dove lets you know when it’s the latter. If more people knew about this tag, I wouldn’t be queasy right now!

While I know and appreciate that tag, it’s not the most obvious thing if you aren’t familiar with the story behind this meme:

The tag that I prefer is also sort of weighted to native English speakers, but I think it’s a bit easier to understand? “Exactly what it says on the tin” 

I’m no expert at this kind of tagging myself, but readers and writers what do you think of these tags? Is there a better one to use to make it clear that the author is completely serious about their tagging and that readers should be wary entering the fic?

Never understood the dead dove thing! So for me, using that doesn’t tell me anything. ‘Exactly what is said on the tin’ helps, but is still a bit vague. I’m partial to a very simple one: ’heed the tags’. If that one’s used, and the author has tagged the potential problematic content, I usually know what I’m in for.

Also, descriptive tags - 'gore’ coupled with 'canon-typical violence’ will tell me a lot more than the dove thing. Conpare to 'gore’ coupled with 'medical procedures’, that’s a beast of a different color. 'Gore’ coupled with 'sexual violence’ would have me backing right the hell out.

Keep the tags simple and descriptive. Readers don’t know what’s in your head.

Maybe indicating what percentage of the story pertains to that in some way is also a good idea? Just something I’ve been thinking about lately. Especially on multichapter fics. Because what does it for a lot of people I think is not so much whether or not that content is in there but its prevalence. Like, I will read a 100k+ fic with one rape scene in it. That doesn’t bother me. But a 100k+ fic that’s just chapter after chapter of a character being sexually assaulted and abused….. That’s something else entirely. But idk what an effective system for indicating that might look like.

i work at a children's hospital. as per hospital regulations, all employees have to go through regular fire safety trainings. most of it is pretty standard. and then there's the Baby Vest.
