A question I have: why does squinting hard often “fix” optical illusions? This is a textbook example of: when I look at it with eyes wide open the lines are angled, and then if I squint a lot the effect disappears and I see the straight lines. I get that squinting turns your eyes into more of a pinhole camera and I know why this can “fix” nearsightedness, but I don’t understand how that could apply to optical illusions. Is it because a smaller part of the illusion is in focus and so your brain doesn’t have additional data to trip up on?
