An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Fandom: Fire Emblem Engage Rating: Mature Relationships: Alfred/Il | Nil | Rafal (Fire Emblem) Additional Tags: Established Relationship, a few years after canon, Alfred's illness is a big part of this, Terminal Illnesses, Chronic Illness, Death discussion, trying a POV I'm not accustomed to
Summary:
Alfred's illness progresses faster than he'd like...which means he has a choice. It's just a question if Rafal has still left that option on the table.
Trying to coerce people on twit to join Engage RP by doodling stuff that happens before the RP takes place but also pspspspsps come joinnnn it's fun I promise

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary:
Rafal knows better than to think he deserves anything nice, after all that he's done. But that's hard when one thing he wanted--one thing he craved dearly in the past--keeps popping in with his ridiculous, insufferable smile all the time.
Well, there may be one way to make sure he never gets it.
(or: Rafal tells Alfred what he did, in the hope it makes Alfred go away)
Fic writers, put in the tags what the difference in hits is between your most and least viewed fics. Mine is 7,720 (7,779-59).

Periodic events DMed by mods to promote engagement (heh) in unique storylines.
Check out reverie-roleplay.carrd.co for more information on the RP’s setting, format, and themes, as well as applications. Anyone age 20+ may apply, and the first round of accepted applicants will be admitted on July 8.
cursed with "do you still like me?" "are you mad at me?" "did i do something wrong?" disorder
what people think is hard about writing: describing the joy, love, beauty, grief, loss and hope that form the richness of human experience
what is actually hard about writing: describing basic actions such as turning, leaning over, reclining, gesturing, saying something in a quiet voice, breathing, getting up from chairs, and walking across rooms

#this is so freaking funny (itspileofgoodthings)
#adaptations really do often underplay how much#pride and prejudice#darcy’s ‘unexpected’ proposal#is basically the ‘did you just flirt with me’ ‘have been for the past [few months] but thanks for noticing’ meme#like this scene#or the one where Lizzy and him are ALONE in the Collins’ house talking about women marrying and moving far from home#& he’s trying to suss out whether she’d be cool with marrying him and living far away from her own home#and she is like ‘well obviously it’s fine if you have enough money to afford the travel’ and he’s like ‘oh?!? and uhhh…#you’re not super attached to your home yourself are you? like you’d be fine with not constantly visiting [your weird embarrassing family]?’#SHE IS SO CLUELESS
The 1980 adaptation had fun with Surprise Encounter! Darcy:
Elizabeth: Hey, I walk here. (Telling him so he won’t come again)
Darcy: Oh, you walk here. (SHE WANTS ME TO WALK WITH HER!)
Elizabeth: Hey,
I walk here. (Telling him so
he won’t come again)
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Excellent haiku.
Ahhhh, the version I saw first with Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul. The man who made slowly removing his hat dead sexy.
They are already selling data to midjourney, and it's very likely your work is already being used to train their models because you have to OPT OUT of this, not opt in. Very scummy of them to roll this out unannounced.

The 'write for yourself uwu' culture shift has done real damage to fic writers imo. I recently had a post on the importance of strategic commenting break containment and I'm surprised by how many strangers who rb it in agreement feel the need to reassure in the tags that they do write for themselves, but...
There is a kernel of truth in the heart of this sentiment--if you only chase stats, you are unlikely to find joy in your writing. At the same time, I think we've veered too far in the other direction.
It is only natural to want engagement and the write for yourself crowd often overlooks how communal an effort fic writing usually is. So many story ideas are born from casual discussions about h/c's and favourite scenes and what ifs and the comment box is a cornerstone of this process. Not only can the discussions in the comment box be a hub for idea generation on their own, but even when the said idea generation takes place in DMs or Discord chats, commenting is often the first/easiest way into befriending authors; it's where community building starts.
Further, the write for yourself crowd similarly overlooks that the things a writer can write for themselves are often vast and many at any given time, and relative engagement levels across fandoms/ships can play a large part in which of those ideas a writer chooses to pursue--or whether they choose to publish their finished work at all.
In sum, I don't think we need to be this apologetic as writers for wanting feedback and engagement for what we post -- writing is hard work and it's only human that we want something external out of it in turn, however rewarding the process might intrinsically be.

Introducing the Fire Emblem Armoury Letter Opener Collection. Do you recognize all the weapons? I’m currently working metalwork add-ons and finalizing the KS (apologies for the delay). Aiming to line up the KS with @/EmblemCon provided I get accepted!
I know you have all probably seen the esims for gaza posts circulating. Some of you have probably looked at them and thought maybe you should help out, but have weighed up the daunting process of signing up for something you're unfamiliar with vs. the gut-wrenching scale of the things people are going through on the ground right now, and you've put it off or questioned whether it will make enough of a difference vs. some other future kind of activism you could put that $6+ towards. I'm not calling you out or scolding you, it is natural to feel conflicted and ambivalent about the multiple calls for aid that you are seeing on social media.
but consider this: what would you do if you suddenly had to leave your home? how would you cope? how would you begin to plan where to go next, or figure out what to do to take care of yourself? most likely you would reach reflexively for your phone.
telecoms access is not a petty luxury in 2024. a loaded esim means the ability to call family members and find out where they are and whether they're safe, and whether they need anything you can provide for them. it means access to maps and regular updates on the situation unfolding around you. it means you can look up whether it's safe to drink rain water, or how to tie a type of knot you've never had to think about before, or how to treat an injury without medical supplies. it means the ability to tell people outside the situation what you are seeing, what you are feeling, what you are thinking. it is an absolutely crucial resource. and it starts at $6 for 7 days.
many many people have observed that internet access is changing the way the world understands genocide. internet access is life or death, and it is shaping modern history in front of you. and it starts at $6 for 7 days.
please, please visit gazaesims.com and spend 5 minutes and $6 to change the way this plays out for everyone.
my notifications for the last couple of days have been full of people saying 'oh this is easy and not scary at all actually' so please please give it a try if you can

the fact that we only have “herculean task” and “sisyphean task” feels so limiting. so here’s a few more tasks for your repertoire
icarian task: when you have a task you know you’re going to fail at anyways, so why not have some fun with it before it all comes crashing down
cassandrean task: when you have to deal with people you KNOW won’t listen to you, despite having accurate information, and having to watch them fumble about when you told them the solution from the start (most often witnessed in customer service)
feel free to chime in i ran out of ideas much faster than i anticipated
D&D has become so much more fun since it clicked for me that I'm not the character, I'm the writer in charge of the character
If you're the character, bad rolls and bad calls reflect badly on you. You want to Win because that means you're doing D&D right, and if things go wrong, it's because you're doing it wrong.
If you're the writer, your number one job is to do things to your character that the character does not like because that gives them the chance to be interesting.
Likewise, running a campaign becomes SO MUCH EASIER when you realize that the people sitting around your table aren't just your audience, they're your writers room for this show you're all making together and you can invite them in on the creative process so you don't have to bear the burden alone.
