I know there are a lot of differing opinions about hybrid macaws but either way, they are pretty to draw 🤗 this is a ruby macaw, a cross between a greenwing macaw and a scarlet macaw.

I've been waiting to share this one for a while! This was such a fun challenge, doing a human portrait and an equine one in the same painting! It was a rewarding piece though, and I thoroughly enjoyed working on it. Looking forward to doing more like this in the future!

I absolutely had to paint little Merlin's portrait as soon as I saw his sweet face and all those WHISKERS! 🥰😂 Merlin is a retired lab rat and a member of @popcornsmischief (a mischief is the name for a group of rats 😉), whom you should totally follow for cute rat photos and videos! 🤗 · I think this is my first rat portrait, which is crazy because I absolutely love rats. I think they make just about the perfect pet: they're as smart and as sweet as dogs, as clean as cats, they can learn to use a litter box, but they're small and quiet and make great apartment pets. My rattie boys (several years ago) knew they weren't allowed in the kitchen and would go back in their cage when we told them to. They were always so excited when we got home and loved to spend time with us. The only downside about rats is their short lifespan - on average between 2-3 years. There is something very unique about living with a parrot. A dog may see you as his master and a horse may see you as her leader - but a parrot sees you as a family member. They eat when you eat, sleep when you sleep, they will groom you and feed you if you let them, and they seek out your company, rather than just your attention. I'm not saying this makes them better than any other kind of "pet" (I really do love them all) but it does make them truly special. · Dash · · Oh boy, commission work can be such a mix of emotions some times. Dash has terminal cancer. He's obviously very special to his people, and they're going to miss him a lot. They wanted a painting as a keepsake, and they wanted it of this memory, a bucket list to they took with him down the West coast. I'm always so grateful to be trusted with such a project, but sad for him and his people. · · This year, I have the goal of learning how to paint backgrounds and environments. What would you call this piece? Fun fact: one thing I like to do when I'm stressed out is flip though my insect guide, and look at the artwork for moths and butterflies! What's the most beautiful parrot you've ever seen in person? For me, it has to be this guy, the plum headed parakeet. I've never seen a photo or a painting (including this one) that does justice to the eye-catching coloring of these guys, they are really something else. That purple head is so vibrant 💜💚 Fun fact, when we got Cricket, I actually wanted a plum headed parakeet. But Cricket made up his mind that he was coming home with us, so who were we to say no? 😂
