my favourite thing about Damian and Duke being so close in age is the potential of them going to the same school, and it is CRIMINAL that it isn't talked about more than it is. like, i don't care if initially Damian and Duke get along, i know for a fact that if given the options between spending time with his civilian classmates or spending time with another trained bat, Damian is going to prefer Duke.

i want to see more of those two having a relationship because of this. it's so fucking funny. i just know that Duke has his own friend group that he always hangs out with and is close to at Gotham Academy, and i love the image of them always eating lunch together... + Damian. Damian who has no interest in his own classmates/talking to other people, and so ends up following Duke around like a lost puppy. Damian is an honorary member of Duke's friend group you cannot change my mind.

listen, i went to school with my older sibling. i was a little autistic kid that hated playing/talking to kids my own age. i used to sit on benches, and when kids felt bad for me and came up asking me to play with them, i'd tell them to go the fuck away. i used to follow my older sibling around like a damn life-line, because at least if i was with them then i didn't have to deal with anybody else too annoying. the idea of that being Damian and Duke gives me L I F E.

i want Duke looking out for Damian. not even in a 'stops him from being teased/bullied' way, because i don't think Damian would let that shit slide regardless. i just like to think of Duke always hanging around waiting for Damian to get out of class so they can spend free periods/lunch together. Duke's friends getting to know Damian and adopting him as their own. Damian slowly being integrated into Duke's entire class despite being like three years below. Damian ends up being the honorary little brother of everybody Duke knows because they've all seen Damian following Duke around the school with his nose in a sketchbook, only avoiding running into walls because Duke's effortlessly and instinctively guiding him around, and within like five minutes of hearing Damian speak these teens are like 'ok this kid's funny, he's ours too now.'

just Damian being Duke's little brother at school and it being fun. i love them.

Batlantern Has An Age Difference! (Not Massive but you know, kinda noticeable.)

— Younger Hal x Older Bruce!

— For this one, I'd like to think that Hal is like 35-36 while Bruce is 42-44. It's not a significant gap, but I like to see silver fox bruce okay..

In Uniform Batlantern always argue.

— There's no escaping this one, the smallest of things can simply turn into an argument. They will bicker for hours, the banter gets progressively louder. Every. Single. Thing that comes out of their mouths are snarky remarks.

— The members of the JL have to keep restraining them just so they don't have to witness a murder. They're trying their best really, but every other week Bruce would comment on how inneficient Hal is with work or something.

— Eventually, the JL has made a bet pool about who would be the first to apologize. (The bets are quite high, and BatLantern hasn't apologized yet. Not in public at least)

BruceHal/Halbruce are a domestic couple.

(You cannot convince me that these two are not suckers for each other. Because they would be.)

— Surprisingly enough, Bruce is a cuddlebug! He likes to big spoon Hal.

— Hal just accepts his fate at that point, even if he tried (which he has, multiple times) he won't ever be able to get out of the hug if Bruce doesn't let him.

— They both have their issues, but they're also stubborn as hell. Sometimes, they do try to talk to each other but it's hard. They're working on it, though!

The Bat Kids enjoy Hal's company.

— They have spontaneous hangouts, Hal is like their cool uncle who won't tell on them but he will scold them for being reckless. He would still let them commit reckless acts but keep them safe(under his supervision).

— Hal's always got a small trinket for the Bats. The Bats do appreciate it, they like being seen after all the trauma.

Bruce spoils Hal

— Face it. Hal's broke and Bruce's rich. PLEASE SEE IT.

— Joking aside, Bruce would totally spoil Hal but Hal would be insistent he doesn't nedd any of those things when he desperately does.

— Hal doesn't leech off of Bruce, he's stubborn and really wants to be independent, but Bruce can't help it.

Hal has freckles!! (Personal headcannon)

— I love the idea of Bruce kissing the freckles on Hal's face.

— His freckles are splattered on his face, his shoulders, and his chest!

Batlantern arguments are always resolved in private.

— No JL member knows this, that's why their betting pool is skyrocketing.

— They don't really like public attention so they always settle their disputes privately. Until they act up again and start arguing lmao

"My journey ends when I say it can end, Bats. Don't doubt me on that."

The sky parts pleasantly. The hues of red and orange mesh together as a wonderful blend of colors. The clouds break into smaller pieces, cluster in with the larger ones and keep the sky partially clear.

The air felt humid, it was warm but not too warm and it wasn't cold, not really. The temperature felt just right. There, the two men who were lying down on the rough pavement looked up.

Hal took shallow breaths, feeling the life from his soul leave his skin. His mouth parts, his voice barely above a whisper. "Catch me if you can, Bats." He wheezed out a chuckle, struggling to stay still. He was lying on the concrete as his body was atop of Bruce's arm.

Hal couldn't turn to his side, no matter how much he struggled. It was far too painful, the blood was seeping out quick. The hit he took punctured his abdomen, ultimately piercing his organs.

Even if he couldn't face Bruce, he could feel that the man was crying. He wanted to turn to him and reach out, wanting to place a gentle hand on his face and wipe those tears away.

But, Hal didn't dawdle. He took a deep breath, as best as he could, and plastered a gentle smile across his face before speaking up again, his voice much clearer than the last time. "I never thought seeing my world end on a lovely sunset would be so.. mesmerizing, it's peaceful." His voice tinged with softness.

His hands still stained red, all he could see as he turned his head was the face of a man who truly cared about him. He gave his brightest smile yet, whispering softly.

"I love you, Spooky."

He took a deeper breath, feeling the oxygen leave him. "I hope that in another life, we both can enjoy the feeling of falling in love." He said with the remaining ounce of strength his body allowed him to exume.

"Why not this one..?"

Bruce's voice cracked. His eyes flooded as tears started streaming down his face, leaving Hal to be shocked, then, Hal's expression softened.

"You know why.."

As he smiled one last time, the soul in his eyes left slowly. His body took one last breath and stilled. Bruce held Hal's body closely towards him. Heaving out cries of agony.

"I love you too.. damnit."

Hal never heard these words as he left.

The Watchtower, three days later.

After an intense battle (again). Everyone is bruised, exhausted, but mostly functional. Hal is pacing, buzzing with nervous energy, still covered in a thin sheen of alien goo.

Hal: Ugh, I swear, that alien goo is still stuck in my hair. I'm gonna do something stupid.

Batman, suddenly appearing behind him, looking deceptively fresh despite the barely concealed grimace on his face: Wonder Woman, now!

Wonder Woman: sangs Hal with lasso, like a cowboy snags a horse.

Hal yelps, squirming against the magical bonds, a vibrant green light flickering uselessly around him.

Hal: HEY! What the-?! Diana! What are you doing?!

Batman, stepping forward: Do you remember what I promised you three days ago, Lantern? (the Lantern is purred)

Hal, eyes widening, a deep blush creeping up his neck and face, his voice squeaky as he struggles against the lasso, looking directly at Batman: Um. Yes?

Superman, awkwardly clearing his throat, suddenly finds the ceiling extremely interesting. Flash subtly pulls out his phone to record. Wonder Woman just grins, tightening her grip on the lasso slightly. The others.. they stare.

*Que intense makeout session.*

Hal, gasping for air, voice still squeaky: Wh-what was that?!

Batman, looking supremely satisfied: That, Lantern, was your consequence. And consider it a down payment. You called yourself stupid. I merely delivered. Now, let's see just how stupid you can really be. My quarters. Now.

And with that, he scooped Hal up in a classic bridal carry, ignoring the stunned silence and of the other Leaguers, and strode purposefully towards the room he had in the watchtower.

Clark, staring at the empty space where Batman and Hal had been: My... my god.

Diana, smiling smugly, coiling her lasso:"My work here is done."

Barry,still vibrating, picking up his dropped energy bar: I... I think I need a new speed force. Or a new therapist. Or both.

Arthur, roaring with laughter, slapping his knee: Finally! Took you long enough, Bat! Knew you had it in ya, you dark brooding shark!

Cyborg, optics flashing: Sensors indicate Hal Jordan's internal temperature is approximately 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Recommend immediate medical attention, or a very, very cold shower.

J'onn, a slight smile playing on his lips: The Watchtower's ambient tension has dropped by 73%. Most efficient.

BATLANTERN HEADCANONS!

(They took over my brain)

- Bruce has had to keep their schedules from intertwining because whenever they get paired up, they end up doing nothing and just start goofing around

- Hal periodically visits the mansion and knows about the Robins (and their other hero identities when they grew up). If anything, he thought it was pretty clear who they were considering they've been fighting beside them for literal years and thought the others knew too.

- Hal is a great cook, Bruce for all the skills he has can only make a decent breakfast sandwich. But whenever he does cook breakfast for Hal, Hal praises his food to be genuinely one of the most amazing things he's ever tasted.

- Whenever a rare opportunity arises that they can spend alone time together, they don't get it on. They ask each other questions that have been pestering them for the past few weeks.

- Batlantern is a married couple who's over each other's shit. They are stingy, stubborn, and argue like cats and dogs. But in civilian form, they're more domestic. They still bicker a lot, but the tension really dies down and they're more tame than in their superhero identities.

- Hal is good with children. On seperate occasions, Damian actually grew fond of Hal because he gave Alfred(the cat) a treat, without him (Damian) telling him to do so.

- Bruce is the big spoon, while Hal is the little spoon!

- Bruce doesn't use petnames, and Hal loves to use petnames!!

- Hal's petnames: Spooky, Bats, Baby, Babe

- Bruce names for Hal: Jordan, Hal, (Sometimes it slips out): Sweetheart.

Bruce: Say one more thing about him and I will drain all of the money you have stored in your bank account. I have personal records of you, I know exactly who you are and what you are. I dare you to say anything and you will be brought down in a total of 2 minutes and 13 seconds.

Imagine this: Dick as Odysseus, and Wally as Penelope.

MODERN (DC COMICS) AU:

Wherein, Dick Grayson gets stuck in a time vacuum or another planet where it'd be impossible to get out of in a matter of a few years. While the Bats and Wally work together to find a way to get Dick out of there, they didn't have much luck.

Wally was known for being fast, his powers were based on that. Having to wait for 20 years before he could see Dick again taught him how to slow down. How he could enjoy the world around him and that he didn't need to always be fast.

When Dick comes back, Wally was the first to know. After all, the shift in the environment was subtle but to Wally it screamed very loud. Because he knew how Dick would make it clear when he's back.

THE ODYSSEY AU:

Wally trolls the suitors so much that they're exasperated and tired from all the things Wally makes them do. To the most ridiculous challenge he's ever given them, to being absolutely flat out annoying.

Dick, who just wants to go home back to his wife(husband) finds the sheer annoyance of the suitors to be quite understandable. But, he also hates that Wally has suitors. Could they not respect their king enough to back off? They threatened to hurt his wife(husband) and his son! How fucking dare they!

Weird take, BUT!

BatLantern but make it Ody and Penelope.

Objectively, Bruce would make for a great penelope and Hal for Odysseus. But! But!

What if it waz switched? Cause you know, a mission suddenly going wrong or Bruce is stuck inside a time space where it takes him forever to get out of?

And imagine, the setting of the Odyssey, and Hal's just impatient about Bruce's return. He's already cussed him out so many times, you'd think he'd suddenly catch on fire in the middle of his journey. He also would definitely entertain the suitors by giving them weird challenges that only Bruce could know. For example, how many moles does he have in total? Yeah no one knows except Bruce, the funny thing is, it takes them months to figure that out before Hal starts trolling again.
