There is really no solid determining factor to decide whether one is bi or pan.
When one tries to figure out if they’re gay or straight, they try to figure out if they’re attracted to men or women. They try to figure out what their biological attraction is.
There is no biological difference between bi and pan like there is gay and straight—because both bi and pan people are attracted to both sexes. The “I like all genders” argument only applies to those who believe in more than 2 genders. Even if you do believe in more than 2 genders, it is still sex characteristics that people are attracted to.
Plus, and I’ve said this before... “bisexual” means “attracted to both sexes”. Therefore pansexual would mean “attracted to all sexes”. How many sexes are there? Two. Making pan and bi exactly the same at base level.
The “I don’t have a preference” argument is something bisexuals have repeatedly expressed as something bisexuals can experience too. The “I see hearts not parts” argument has been rightfully criticized as something most people can agree with, and not a pansexual exclusive thing.
Every single way to determine if you’re pan or bi, is based on determining whether or not you fall into biphobic stereotypes and misconceptions. Those who fit them are bi, those who don’t are pan.
It’s equivalent to a homosexual man deciding he’s not gay, but something else, simply because he’s not hypersexual and wants to get to know his partners instead of having flings.
Tl;dr:
Pansexuality is not a unique sexuality. There is no way to differentiate it from bisexuality like we can differentiate homosexuality and heterosexuality, because pan and bi are biologically the same. The only difference between the labels is that one is based off of enforcing harmful stereotypes.
Logged in to find the notes filled with a self identified “queer” being wildly homophobic. What a surprise.
Not homophobic I'm a queer trans man and I would appreciate you not belittling my queer identity by calling it "self-identified" saying that as a trans man a gay man would be able to date me is not homophobic

@killerkimmy785 ok but why do people like a certain gender? How are you attracted to gender? Because of sex characteristics that make up that gender. (Also, it’s called SEXuality for a reason, because sexuality determines the sex(es) you’re attracted to. Men, women, or both.
Skin, hair, scent, voice... all of that is secondary sex characteristics that help make one gender separate from the other. And that’s what we’re biologically wired to be attracted to. If sex characteristics don’t contribute to sexuality, I would assume that everyone would just be bisexual and being gay or straight would be a preference.
You’re right that genital preferences play a part though (But I don’t like calling them “preferences”. I’m homosexual, I’m biologically wired to be attracted to the same sex. That’s not a “preference”). Because they’re primary sex characteristics. So both primary and secondary characteristics combined determine who people are attracted to.
I don’t really know what you’re trying to say tbh. If you’re trying to say that we’re attracted to gender and not sex to include trans people, know that trans people’s secondary sex characteristics change when they transition. For example, trans men grow facial hair.
I still stand by the basic point of this post; pansexuality means nothing because there’s only two sexes. If bisexual means two sexes, and pansexual means all sexes... that still means that both are only attracted to two sexes. Even if you believe in 100 genders, somebody who calls themselves stargender is still going to be either male or female. Somebody won’t be attracted to them being stargender, but will be attracted to them based on sex characteristics.
@killerkimmy785
It would depend if you’re homosexual, heterosexual, or bisexual. If you’re a homosexual woman for example, you’d likely only find female nonbinary people attractive. If you’re bisexual, it wouldn’t matter.
Because nonbinary and genderfluid aren’t biological and have no sex characteristics attached to them, it still comes down to biological sex. Which is why you probably won’t see a gay man dating a female nonbinary, because they have female biology that he is not wired to be attracted to.
People aren’t biologically attracted to just gender. They may be attracted to certain gender expressions preference wise; like how some people prefer masculine women or feminine men, or masculine men or feminine women. Maybe some people prefer androgynous people, and maybe some people don’t care at all. That’s preference. But sexuality wise, one’s biology is not “I’m attracted to all genders”. One’s biology is “I am attracted to both sexes, which means I can be attracted to somebody no matter what their gender is”.
Which is the point of my post. No matter how much pansexuals want to deny it, the reason they are attracted to “all genders” (I only believe in two), is because they are biologically attracted to both sexes. Which means that no matter if a person is male or female, they are able to find them attractive. Being more attracted to nonbinary people? That’s a preference. And guess what? Bisexuals are attracted to both sexes too! Meaning they can be attracted to any gender! And they, just like pansexuals, can have no preference for one or the other. Biologically, pansexual and bisexual are exactly the same, and there’s no reason to have a different word based on preferences. Wanting the distinction from bisexual is biphobic. What’s so bad about being called bisexual that a whole new label is needed, that needs to enforce bisexual misconceptions and stereotypes just to justify its existence?
If you don’t believe that, I’d like you to tell me, biologically speaking, how is one attracted to gender and not sex? How can one base their attraction completely on gender, with no consideration for sex whatsoever? If this was the case, wouldn’t a heterosexual man be able to be attracted to a pre-op, pre-transition trans woman? Because sure, biologically she’s a male, and since she hasn’t started her transition, she appears as a man (which heterosexual men can’t be attracted to). But since she’s a trans woman, wouldn’t he be able to be attracted to her gender?
No, he wouldn’t. Because he would view her as male, and even if she told him that she was a woman, he still wouldn’t be able to be attracted to her until she transitioned and gained female sex characteristics—which he is biologically attracted to.
@killerkimmy785 If we’re talking pre op as in completely pre transition, no. Because the trans woman would look male. If we’re talking pre surgery, but the woman’s still on hormones, then yeah a straight man could be attracted to her because she’d have secondary sex characteristics of females that he’d be attracted to.
I think you’re seeing “sex characteristic” as just penis/vagina. That’s not all there is, those are just primary.
Panphobia is good and all but you forgot to address that pan people also claim being pan is experiencing attraction without regard for gender. Which is still being bi, but being overly specific about how your preferences work.
Thanks for bringing that up! I agree, it’s literally just being bi with no preference.
Ironically,
This person has a preference, yet claims to be pansexual. By many pansexual definitions, this person is bi lol.
They also don't even know if they like guys but are still apparently claiming to be pansexual?
I literally never claimed to be pan I'm queer that's the label I use.

I said I have a preference for 2 specific genders because I have a preference For people who identify as nonbinary/genderfluid? My sexuality being queer literally has literally has nothing to do with with biological sex my attraction to people is based off of their gender my preferences lie in things that are specifically gender identity

Can we please admit that ADHD is also a spectrum? Some people suffer a lot more from their ADHD. There’s people that manage fairly well, or don’t feel as hindered by it. My brother is barely bothered by it, he just gets really active and does sports. I am constantly impacted by it, and I’m tired of people acting like we’re all the same. We’re not. There are moments where I can’t cook for weeks, where I can’t manage to send an email for work, meanwhile he’s running his own business successfully. Some of us are barely functioning because of our ADHD, and others seem to be thriving because of it.
So yeah, there’s definitely degrees in it, right?

I saw this on Twitter and holy shit.
ADHD Spectrum Test, measuring attention-deficit/hyperactivity spectrum symptoms across seven different domains.
Can’t say I’m surprised.
🤷
To the surprise of absolutely no one…
holy shit
As someone who highly suspects ze has adhd, this is not A suprise
Also completely unsurprised.
i dont have adhd but like,, 👀
I am not surprised
Well damn then....
Ok but like can I give Teruteru shippers one suggestion
Them
Like they're so cute
If anyone wants to hear I'd love to talk at length about them...
What do I want: Feel comfortable enough with another human being to experiment my sexuality to find out whether I actually want sex or not
When do I want it: Apparently never because my brain says adding other people into my sexual experience is icky
Ok but like can I give Teruteru shippers one suggestion
Them
Like they're so cute
Made an old character again plus with the queer flag! She was originally meant to be everything I wanted to be but I guess now she kinda represents me!
