Blood of the Yōkai follows Gorou, a military general, thrust into a mission that changes his life permanently. Through self-doubt and tested relationships, Gorou struggles to learn to live again as a rescued Prisoner of War.
Gorou is entwined in a legacy he was created to fulfill. When everything he believed is turned upside down in a violent fury, Gorou is faced with a choice:
To follow his heart, or to sacrifice everything in the name of the people he loves most.
✨PLEASE NOTE: some parts of the story are written intentionally omitting names; let your imagination run wild!
You do NOT need to know any canon Genshin knowledge to follow along with Blood of the Yōkai.
A poished version of the story will be posted to AO3 using only proper nouns, stay tuned. ✨
✨ this story is 18+ ! There is themes of noncon, NSFW, Major injury and queer issues and questioning. Please mind the tags on posts. ✨
The main cast of the story as written are below! While they are fandom characters, I have a lot of fun pushing canon to create something new.✨

Gorou is the advantageous General of Watatsumi Island, serving under Sangonomiya Kokomi. He is a young inugami, whose ancestors served the serpent god Orobashi and the Sangonomiya Clan in the creation of Watatsumi Island. Gorou takes this history and his role in its continuation very seriously, working eagerly alongside Kokomi. He believes his place in the military is symbolic of his ancestors’ role to Orobashi; by serving Kokomi, he himself mirrors that bond.
Though small in stature, he is well regarded; widely known and respected by many. He has a tendency to never quit, largely attributing to victory on the battlefield… though sometimes this lands him in tough situations.
Caretaker
Arataki Itto is an oni hailing from Inazuma. He is typically regarded as a menace, his boisterous way of life getting him into sticky situations and outcasted from the Inazuman city folk. Itto is an orphan who largely raised himself, oni being drastically looked down upon in the city. Despite his tumultuous upbringing, Itto is a free spirit who’s optimistic to a fault, heroic and has a heart of pure gold.
During the war, Itto assisted the Watatsumi Resistance against the Shogun, earning him much respect with Gorou and Kokomi. Gorou petitioned for Itto to move to Watatsumi, believing that a yokai’s race should not predetermine their status in society.
you can pull recovery whump tropes/cliches from my cold dead hands. every time a caretaker waits at a distance for whumpee to touch them first, only to have that moment be when they fall asleep on their shoulder and they are DESPERATE to be chill and cool and not freaking out theyre so not brimming with excitement over this- an angel gets its wings
Whumper keeps Whumpee in an excessive amount of restraints (can’t move an inch for chains, collared, muzzled) to ensure that they won’t break out - even if Whumpee is completely cooperative
Whumpee who does fight back, who bites, claws, scratches, does everything they can to cause as much damage to Whumper as possible
Whumper who “has to” keep Whumpee constantly sedated
Whumpee is a danger to themself, intentionally or not, so Whumper has to protect them before they fatally injure themselves
Nonhuman Whumpee is percieved as dangerous and muzzled/shock collared before they can plead their case, if they even can
Caretaker who is scared of Whumpee!
Stranger Caretaker arriving to rescue Whumpee after defeating Whumper but hesitating when they realise who or what Whumpee is
Whumpee’s hope turning to dread as they see this, and silently begging for mercy
Whumpee who lashes out at Caretaker, who hurts then one day, and guilt hits them at full force
Whumpee who believes they’re a danger to Caretaker and takes it upon themself to remove themself from the equation
Caretsker who flinches when Whumpee moves suddenly
Whumpee wakes up after being rescued, filled with relief - only when they try to move they notice the chains, and the muzzle
Or Whumpee wakes up in a hospital but is restrained to the bed “for their own safety”
Whumpee is a living weapon or villain and everyone is scared of them - except Caretaker’s child
Whumpee who tries to be gentle and unassuming to win the favour of those around them
My art gift for @whumpinthepot for the @whump-art-exchange!!! I really hope I did Maddie and Delilah justice, it was so fun to draw them!! And I hope it's what you hoped for!!
I wanted to make this extra good since I know this is for I believe one of the main mods of this event!! And I am truly grateful for it and I really hope that it shows in this piece 🥹
An injured character who's managed to grit their teeth and bear it through the course of a painful wound tending with scarcely a sound but as soon as the ordeal is actually over they dissolve into quiet weeping of relief and released tension and lingering pain.
