every anti tommy post I'm seeing is constantly phrasing their issues with "I wouldn't have let tommy do that" "I would've hated tommy for saying that" "I would've-" "I would've-" "i-"

"oh he deserved better" "he wouldn't have been okay with that" "I know buck wouldnt-"

"oh poor oliver, the story arc he wanted for buck was ruined"

and honestly the treatment of buck as a self-insert and the subsequent infantalising of him is fucking weird. he's a grown ass man and without a doubt if he had problems with tommy he would've voiced them. he's grown a lot thought out the seasons. he is in fact not you, he's a character written by a team of writers and acted by a grown man who can speak for himself just fine.

oliver is doing his job. and if lou could negotiate a make out session into a kiss then I have no doubts that oliver could have asked for the daddy kink lines to be taken out if they bothered him. seems like he didn't mind them because there they are in the fucking show.

why are some of y'all insistent on woobifying both buck and oliver??? it's so goddamn weird. learn to separate the character from the actor and also yourself.

This whole scene between Buck and Tommy is the most authentic depiction of a mlm relationship I've seen in a while (on mainstream television that is). They're adult men. They're very masculine adult men. Yes, they can be emotional. They can be vulnerable with each other. And they were in this scene. But likely they will be over it quickly. Way more quickly than the average fangirl wants them to. They won't have a lengthy heart-to-heart about their emotions when everything important has already been said. They won't cry over feelings like they do in every other fanfiction. They will quickly seek for a distraction from dealing with the heavy emotional stuff and because they're two grown-ups, two adult men, who are also still in the honeymoon phase of their relationship that distraction is very likely to be sexual. Like it or not, it's realistic.

Calling it problematic (or worse) that Buck and Tommy talk about Daddy Kink after this conversation and that they're into it? That's just showing how little life experience a huge part of fandom has and how little they actually know about men in general and gay men and gay life in particular. For all that mlm ships are the biggest part of fandom and fans crying for their mlm ships to become canon for years or even decades, the moment you're getting an authentic representation of a grown-up gay relationship you run away screaming because it doesn't match with your lovey-dovey vanilla expectations? That's nothing but bigotry talking.

I’ve said I was done venting and truly, I would rather keep the vibes positive. So if y’all want to skip a rant, feel free to scroll. I’m going to put a cut here.

This is a very specific and very tired rant.

I’ve been heavily in the 9-1-1 fandom since 2020. I’ve watched the show since 2018. I’ve shipped Buddie the entire time Eddie has been on the show, even during the time I didn’t really like Buck all that much. Eddie has always been my favorite character. I’ve been writing fanfiction since I was a child. I’ve posted it since I was 18. I’m not new to these spaces. There’s a lot I’m willing to put up with for this show and Buddie.

And now that we have BuckTommy, a beautiful ship that’s soft and precious, I’m even happier. Tommy is already in my top three or four favorite characters. We’re experiencing a love story real time.

But ao3 has become a minefield.

I already had stopped visiting the Buddie tag often. This isn’t new. Even as long as I adored Buddie, there is only so much infantilizing Buck I can take. Y’all really forget he’s a grown ass man and always has been. If I see another fic with the lawsuit arc, I’ll actually scream (remember my takes on that one are unpopular and piping hot). Now that, I can probably filter out that tag and be happier. But I can’t filter out infantilized Buck or ab*sive/obsessive Eddie.

There’s so much I’ve grown to genuinely hate on the Buddie tag so I’ve stopped going.

But then there’s BuckTommy, shiny and new and beautiful. I’m eating up the fics with them until-oh no, there are now hundreds of fics flooding the tag with Tommy being cheated on so Buddie gets together, Tommy stepping aside so Buck can find his “true love”, Tommy being used and stepped on, and then, because of course if they did it with Eddie they’ll do it with Tommy, turning him into an ab*ser.

So I’ve blocked the Buddie tag from my BuckTommy search. And I’m sure I’ll do the same but reversed when I eventually venture onto the Buddie tag again.

Idk man, I’m not trying to say anything bad about ao3 because it’s a place where people can write whatever they want. I guess I’m more just ranting about the mentality of the fandom.

Judge them all or do not judge

I'm not liking what I'm seeing for this fandom right now, I'm seeing so much bullshit about Tommy Kinard... Like the fact that he was an ass previously etc...

Yeah I get it, he wasn't that good, but we only saw him for a few episodes back then, and they were not about him...

But guess what? All the characters did something awful in the past, and guess what again? We "forgave" their faults:

Eddie did flee his wife AND kid because he couldn't do it, like possibly DYING was better than raising his son, yeah father material right there... He then ended up in relationships to find a mother figure, that's manipulation (even if it's for a good cause)

Buck cheated on his girlfriend! He didn't do anything to help Maddie when she was with Doug, like he said himself he should have not ignored the signs, but he did!

Hen cheated on her wife with her ex like no big deal and then went back to Karen...

Bobby was an addict and it stopped him from saving his wife and kids, and he started that fire (not voluntarily of course but it was his negligence...)

Chimney hit Buck because he was protecting his sister and resented him about it! Because he thought he had the right to know where she was...

They all did something that they're not proud of, and I'm sure I'm not remembering everything right now, but we saw them grow, not change but grow with those difficulties and that's perfect, that's why we love them so much.

But Tommy might have been an ass before but he grew too! He came out, and it was implied that he was on better terms with Chimney and Hen so they still talked between episodes. People can grow, and Tommy did too we just didn't see it on our screens and a lot of people are judging him for his past, ok, if you judge Tommy for the man he was, judge all the characters for the person they were before too. Don't just take it out on Tommy because he kissed Buck, that's so hypocritical...

scrolling through comments on the 911 instagram page is making me feel sick.

the biggest issue is obviously the homophobic assholes that have nothing better to do with their lives than cry about how the buck/tommy romance doesn't fit the storyline and how it's pushing an agenda and how they had to cover their kids' eyes when the kiss came onscreen. their anger is baffling. "how can he be gay if liked women so much??" spoiler: he's not gay! he's bisexual!! would you like me to pull out a dictionary and read you the definition? as a bi person myself, it really sucks to see just how bad the erasure really is. the way none of these people seem to be able to grasp the idea of liking more than one gender is insane. it's okay, though. our king oliver says he doesn't care about what these kinds of viewers think, so neither will I. (it's honestly kind of funny to see them all declaring that they'll never watch another episode. you will not be missed babygirl, don't worry.)

and yet on the flip side, the hardcore buddie shippers are also becoming a problem. the amount of people getting genuinely upset that buck kissed tommy and not eddie is shocking to me, especially considering that we've waited seven (7!) whole years to even get to this point in buck's self realization. their insistence that the tommy arc is wrong gives me a weird feeling. it's, to me at least, borderline fetishization of the relationship. i understand wanting the ship to sail. i really do. it's just that they want it so bad, they miss the whole point, and in the process take away the impact of what happened.

we got a canon bisexual man. we got a buff, strong, stereotypical 'manly-man' to kiss a guy and like it, and he also likes women. actually, if we include tommy, we got two of them (assuming tommy has been with a woman. he may be gay, we don't know enough yet to slap a label on him. do we even need a label? not really). not only that, buck's coming out in his 30's. it's not some teenage romcom. he's a grown man who's known to love women, who knows he loves women, one that's only just discovering more about himself when he's older. are you kidding?? to top it off, we're getting all that on an extremely popular tv show that's got at least one more confirmed season.

this is, and i can't stress this enough, HUGE. huge for the entire lgbtq community. i'm so, so happy about this. would i like to see buddie in the future? hell yes. am i upset it's not happening right this second? no way. if (not when, if) we get buddie, i want it to be fully fleshed out. i want them to have their full individual character development before they get together. right now isn't the time. i don't think either are ready for that, and for now i would love to see buck get treated right by tommy. he deserves so much, and i think tommy might be the one that gives him some of that.

i'm so proud of how far this show has come, and i can't wait to see what happens next (might be steering clear of the instagram side of it all, though. i'm too scared to even touch twitter). i just wish the people complaining would stop for a minute to appreciate abc for giving us what they did. we have time!! enjoy the ride. we earned it.

- okay this scene between maddie and buck afterwards is actually so important to me, i love their ability to communicate, and how buck openly admits that he doesn’t know if he meant to hurt eddie or not, and that he was angry and lashed out, and maddie’s reaction to it :( “that’s not how you get someone’s attention”

- “i guess i was trying to get his attention” buck is the representative of the “i don’t know why i do the things i do until tons of self reflection after the fact” club, same im the president actually

- i do love that we get to watch him try and figure out why he acts and feels the way he does in real time! even at the end he still doesn’t entirely know until tommy is in his face staring at his lips

- the stutter is back 🫶

- “evan…” STOP THE WAY HE SAYS IT THAT TIME MAKES ME GIGGLE I CANT

- this entire scene drives me crazy btw i can literally pick it apart piece by piece… but the way he smiles throughout it makes my heart go akrjeidjdjsjd

- the chemistry is fucking IMMACULATE btw!! the flirting is so natural and it shows through buck being oblivious about it!! like brother no one stands that close to each other

- buck figuring out how he feels AS he speaks!!! poor boy is trying to catch up as fast as he can

- everything about the “okay” after tommy says “i can teach you”… the smile, the eye squint, the head tilt, like oh my GOD

- the way the tone changes when buck says “good” my GOD, the way his face drops as he comes to the realization that maybe it was about tommy the whole time

- the “cause trying to get your attention has been kinda exhausting” punches me in the gut EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS LIKE FUCK OH MY GOD BUCK LIKES MEN FR? and the way he says it GOD, like i said, he’s literally figuring this out as the words come out of his mouth (“i guess so”)

- okay my ONE nitpick about the kiss scene is that tommy grabs his chin, and then when it cuts it’s the two fingers under the chin, it’s inconsistent and i think i like the chin grab better

- the absolute STUNNED look in bucks eyes after the kiss!!! as the perfect oliver stark put it: he’s found something he’s been missing for a long time

- tommy is so worried in the split second before buck tells him that it was okay

- the wordless nod after tommy asks if it was okay THIS MEANS SO MYCH TO ME

- you can FEEL the sense of relief and wholeness radiating off of buck

- “better than fake mouth static” AKSHSISHS

- his eyes following tommy’s lips as he laughs, and then the brief look down like his whole WORLD has just been turned upside down before tommy speaks again

- i am so fucking here for buck being asked out and being stunned by it

- the stutter again 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶

- tommy’s smile as he leaves like tee hee ur kinda cute

- the entire of his expressions at the end. there’s panic, there’s confusion, there’s happiness OLIVER STARK THE MAN THAT YOU ARE !!!!

in conclusion: this is everything i wanted and more, the brain rot is everywhere, i cannot escape this episode

You know what? I don’t WANT an awkward double date. I don’t WANT buck coming out and people having the ‘I know’ reaction or the ‘is it Eddie’ reaction.

You know what I do want?

I want Buck panicking over what to wear for the date. I want Buck flopping on his bed like very teenager after their first kiss all giggly and happy and touching his lips because he kissed a boy

I want Buck smiling every time he says Tommy’s name because maybe it isn’t forever and maybe he’s not even looking for forever anymore but he’s so happy and he’s so light and being with Tommy feels good

I want Tommy to keep calling him Evan, because before Buck was Buck he was Evan and Evan deserves to be happy to be treated so softly and lovingly and Evan deserves to be free.

I want Buck to be happy. To be happy and free and queer in the way we all deserve.

Ok, so, I'm ecstatic about 7x04, I'm just so happy it happened. Of course, that's not my endgame relationship but it is perfect!

I just wanna talk about Maddie for a sec', like that girl knew all along that Buck was bi just not aware of it before now. With all her comments about bi Buck over the seasons: the boy crush over Eddie, the setting up with her coworker, the heart in the calendar... (So much more I can't think about right now) and I loved how she was not having Buck showing his jealousy with violence (she knows how that end, of course, she has some strong opinion about it)

And yeah the whole episode is about some kind of jealousy coming from Buck and it was greatly addressed. Because you can feel jealous about everything it doesn't have to be romantic jealousy (yeah I'm talking about the Buddie scenes) and I do think that Buck is really interested in Tommy and that makes sense! Most of us already have a crush, but that doesn't stop us from finding someone else to our taste. Plus Eddie is so out of Buck's mind about sexuality right now. When you spend that much time with someone and you put it in the friendship's box for so long, of course, it's gonna take some time to change your point of view on it. You can love your best friend and never take a step towards a romantic relationship even if somewhere in yourself you see it could be a beautiful romantic one.

We know both Buck and Eddie know they are co-parenting Chris, and spending a lot of time together. They are, they're perfectly in sync with each other so, yeah, when someone puts that relationship on the line you're not gonna like it, especially since it was just the two of them for so long.

And the relationship Tommy x Buck makes so much sense to me, I'm bi myself and I was mostly with the opposite gender because it's easier but when I searched for same-sex relationships I took experienced people for the first time (not everyone's gonna do that obvi) but it was reassuring for me and you can let yourself pushed in the right direction, you can take your time getting to know what you like, you let yourself be swooned by the other and it's perfect. Buck didn't fully know he was attracted to men apparently (even... Duh, you are dude, since the beginning, like just look at 2x01...) but guess what, people lie to themselves without even knowing they're doing it, so yeah. I can buy Buck not knowing men were an option. And then you have this beautiful opportunity with a great guy (super cool, good-looking, doing a lot of activities...) and this guy happens to be gay and out. (I think?) I love that relationship because I do think Tommy is a great guy, I do think he's gonna be perfect for Buck for his first-ever gay relationship.

And can we just talk about how great Tommy is, like yeah, he kissed Buck with his hand under his chin, just a peck but enough to make Buck feel things about it too! And he stopped there! He stopped, I'm sorry but I don't have that much strength in me, I'm not even sure I would have stopped and gone to work that easily... Damn! And even after the kiss, the man asked twice if it was okay? Well, my dude, if it wasn't I think Buck would have pushed you away wayyy sooner, that was a long as fuck kind of kiss! Buck being flustered right after is so cute, I love it, but just look at how Tommy is looking at Buck's shirt when he asks him on a date, yeah clearly Tommy wants a naked Buck right away but he still stopped himself! What a great guy, he knew Buck wasn't very aware of his own flirting (with all the smiles, the questions, the interest... Ah damn Buck you're so oblivious of yourself!). That's what makes it so special for me.

I really want this relationship to continue for the whole season, I do think it's great, that Buck gets the time to explore, and we see a bit more of Tommy (which I kind of like). Eddie's still in a relationship with Marisol and I don't want Buck and Eddie to jump their bones just because Buck has a boyfriend, I want them to find that: hey we do everything together already, I really like you and oh damn, lately you make my d*ck hard so why not try a romantic relationship together? Like, I'm pretty sure if Buddie becomes canon they'll see it doesn't change that much, they'll just kiss instead of tapping each other's shoulders...

What I want too in this season, is for Buck to notice other guys. So Tommy is kind of his type (no shit... Army guy, muscles, sporty blahblahblah) it makes Eddie his type too, I want some "oh moment" like damn, he's sexy, even if he's in a relationship (doesn't mean you can't look) and then guys on calls too. Because Buck just opened that door and now he's gonna see a lot of other people under a new light. I want that, I want him to explore, and find out what he likes or doesn't, I want a whole arc about Buck finding what was missing in him. Because it is a journey, it's not a one-time thing, it's a whole new world right in front of him and it's awesome!

Even if Tommy doesn't stay (no one said you can't be friends with your exes (especially in the LGBTQ+ community)... But whatever) and even if Buck ends up with a woman after (He Is Still Bi, it's a possibility) I'm already glad it happened, I want more obviously, and at some point I'd really like to have some Buddie even if it's gonna be difficult because Eddie has been straight his whole life and he does the "right thing" if you know what I mean: marrying the first girl you date, having a kid with that same one, going into relationships and staying in it because his son likes them... Eddie's open about other's sexuality but not so much about himself, plus what would make sense. I could see Bi Buck from season 1 (I don't know, the vibe maybe?) but in all honesty I see it less in Eddie, so maybe something like demisexuality? And even there it doesn't quite add up with the relationships he already had (except for Shanon but the others not so much, at least it wasn't shown that way to me). But guess what? I'm not the writers if they want to put Buddie (And I hope they do) they'll find a way (even if Eddie has just a thing for Buck it'll be fine to me, no one else but you) but if they don't I'm just gonna read and read some beautiful fanfic about them! Because they are together in my head and no one can take that from me. I want a freaking slow burn between them.

Anyway, I think I started to ramble a bit in this post. Look what you're doing to me ABC! You can disagree or not I don't care, in a few words: I think 7x04 was well-written and well-played. I want more of Tommy x Buck (because they're freaking cute!) and I want a lot more of self-discovering and I hope for some Buddie, can't take that from me too. So... Now I'm gonna re-watch that scene for the hundredth time...
