When I tell women that shaving contributes to the patriarchy, I'm not telling them to stop—I'm telling them to acknowledge that patriarchy has conditioned us to believe that our body hair is "unnatural" and "dirty." If body hair is unnatural, then why does it grow on our skin?

"Oh but I have sensory issues" I don't see men with hairy beards saying that. I don't see men shaving their armpits because of that.

I want a woman to admit if she's scared of how people will react when they see women's body hair. No excuses about sensory issues or pretending it's more hygienic. I get insecure myself sometimes and can admit that it's because stares can hurt my feelings. Simple.

If we get enough women being honest like that, I think the progression of that honesty will be other women saying "Hey let's hang out on a day where we both agree not to shave and we can handle the stares together." Then those one-on-one hangouts will turn into bigger groups, then over time it won't be a unique thing to see at all.
