i feel like the boeing whistleblower case should radicalize more people. a major airline company is producing planes with less and less regard for safety and it's starting to get noticeable. man takes them to court, which would reduce profit at the cost of public safety. he fucking dies the night that boeings legal team asks him to stay an extra day. if nothing happens about this, i hope it gets through to people that america would literally kill you for a few extra cents
“You don’t have to be that gung-ho on trans rights to realize that a world where girls’ genitals need to be inspected before they can play any sport is worse for girls than a world where once in a while there’s a trans girl on a girls’ team.” —Evan Urquhart
I fear that one of the many repercussions of this will be that girls who are forced to undergo this unneeded and unnecessary medical exam is that because of the trauma it will cause, and lets be real it will traumatize these children, that as they get older they will avoid gynecology health care.
I think any doctor who goes through with performing these exams or is willing to perform such exams should be investigated by the medical state board. This goes against medical ethics, best practices, child psychology, the Hippocratic oath, and how pediatric medicine is done.
This is the the state and parents condoning medical sexual assault and rape of minors.
If it was truly about protecting children then this would never have become law. This will only do long term damage, on multiple levels, to children.
I sincerely hope no parents actually go through with forcing their children to be examined.

When you
circling back on this. Hi
“but i don’t like how blood tastes :(” well. grow up. get well soon. i don’t know what else to say to you
Ive noticed recently that my generation has... no concept of what the various economic classes actually are anymore. I talk to my friends and they genuinely say things like "at least i can afford a middle class lifestyle with this job because i dont need a roommate for my one bedroom apartment" and its like... oughh
You guys, middle class doesnt mean "a stable enough rented roof over your head," it means "a house you bought, a nice car or two, the ability to support a family, and take days off and vacations every year with income to spare for retirement savings and rainy days." If all you have is a rented apartment without a roommate and a used car, you're lower class. That's lower class.
And i cant help but wonder if this is why you get kids on tumblr lumping in doctors and actors into their "eat the rich" rhetoric: economic amnesia has blinded you to what the class divides actually are. The real middle class lifestyle has become so unattainable within a system that relies upon its existence that theyve convinced you that those who can still reach it are the elites while your extreme couponing to afford your groceries is the new normal.
A century ago in the US, there were very sharp boundaries between the types of jobs that were middle class, and the types of jobs that were working class, and how much the jobs paid largely followed that, so you could know from the type of job a person had whether they were financially middle class or not. This plus classist educational and hiring systems allowed for a large degree of cultural homogeneity within a particular class. It was really easy, for the most part, to see the divisions between classes in the US. And that's largely when the cultural idea of "what middle class is" got set.
Then the labor movement resulted in a whole bunch of blue-collar jobs (i.e. jobs that involved working with your hands, trades, manufacturing, etc) getting actually paid what they're worth, which meant comfortably middle-class incomes, which blurred the lines a bit starting in the 40s and 50s.
Then, in the 70s, white collar jobs (think office work--the sort of job where you're never going to work up a sweat doing it) stopped keeping up with inflation. Up to this point, pretty much all white collar jobs were middle class jobs (at least the ones that weren't also pink-collar jobs, like secretary or teacher). So the purchasing power of the salaries for those jobs fell gradually over the decades.
But we still judge "am I middle class?" based on outdated appearances and whether or not you work a white collar job. A lot of people assume that they are middle class because they work a white collar job and live in the suburbs.
But if a single missed paycheck or major accident could spell financial ruin, you are not middle class.
To be middle class, you have to be financially stable enough that you don't have to care about things like how much groceries and gas cost. You have to be financially stable enough that you can take vacations every year without worrying about it. Not lavish vacations, necessarily, but nice ones. You have to be financially stable enough that saving for retirement is not a hardship, and neither is having a few thousand dollars in a rainy-day fund. And it's not enough to be able to afford all of that for yourself alone! You would have to be able to afford children on top of all that, either on your own income or combined income with your partner.
If you could not afford:
kids
vacations
retirement savings
emergency/rainy day savings
not worrying about money issues, regular bills, the price of gas or groceries
then you are not middle class. In New York (state, not city), you have to make at least $75k/year to be middle class. In Georgia, you have to make at least $55k/year to be middle class.
And the thing is, not understanding what "middle class" actually means is really convenient for right-wing politicians. Because so many people think they are middle class when they are not. "They say this policy will help the middle class, and hurt the working class. Well, I am middle class, so I am in favor of it." Except the person who thinks this isn't middle class, and what's more, their boss may not qualify as middle class either.
If you fucks actually go through with not voting on your next USA president elections and subsequently lead Trump to power again.
Yes. Yes I'm going to blame every single American for that. Collective responsibility and all that jazz.
Explaining in simple terms: if you don't vote for Biden because "he is murdering palestinian babies", you will get Trump as a president, who, being an open and proud islamophobe, will murder even more palestinian babies.
It is no good situation when you have to choose between two shitty candidates. But you have a two-party system.
russia has previously aided trump during elections, and they will do so again. A call to boycott the elections = a call to support trump
You are in no position to afford the privilege of being idiots.
Also this.
Also, a lot of his goons have been filling a LOT of important spots in the military and civilian fields to have positions available for trump to fill in with his loyalists and to easier do a hostile takeover if he wins the election.
IF YOU DON'T VOTE FOR BIDEN YOU WILL GET A DICTATORSHIP BY TRUMP AND WE WILL ALL BE FUCKED
I don't know how many times we have to tell people to make everythingin their power to stop Trump from coming to power again. USA will be fucked. Ukraine will be fucked. Palestine would be fucked. We don't know how many other countries will be fucked.
Trump's presidency already gave cart blanche for the international far right rise, and I don't think we need to spell out to people that the state of the world today is directly credited to Trump's presidency, his incompetence, him being Russian puppet, etc etc.
As much as I am actually an opponent of the whole idea that USA is responsible of everything in the world, it does have a huge influence on international politics scene.
SO GO VOTE.
And since USA is a democracy, then, again, y'all are responsible for the president you elect.
Also, in 2016 Russia went hard on surreptitiously spreading propaganda to get people not to vote for Clinton. We already know that Russia is using bots to spread misinfo about the Israel-Gaza war. I don't think it's a coincidence that we are suddenly seeing tons of posts about how we shouldn't vote for Biden in 2024. You are not immune to propaganda.
This is why I'm always bringing up the nuance. Because Biden and Trump are not equally bad. They are not even in the same orbit of bad.
Biden is a leader too moderate for my tastes, who I really really wish wasn't so old. The things he has done have been unexpectedly good despite being hamstrung by the opposition. Love him? Nope. But Biden is making sucky choices from an array of sucky choices, domestic and foreign.
Trump is calling his opponents Vermin, outright explaining that he is 'retribution' and cracking jokes about victims of political and racial violence. He brags about being the one to kill Roe v Wade. In 2020 he asked why the cops didn't just shoot the protesters in the legs. He wants to deport immigrants, including all dreamers, and his plan starts with 'put them in camps.'
I know most people don't track political news. I get it. Its nauseating. But this idiot's gotten stupider, and he's gotten more hateful.
We are, horrifyingly, going to have to watch another Trump v Biden election barring some act of god. (on Nov 5, jfc) And I will walk you through your specific hesitations about Biden if that's what it takes to get through to you. We don't get to vote for a candidate we love. We get to vote for one who won't actively kill american citizens.

Some things to note when you're discussing Palestine and Israeli apartheid in the coming days/weeks/months (not a complete list but will update as I have the emotional energy):
Do not refer to what is happening in Palestine as a "conflict" or "war." These words imply a balance of power that does not exist. Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have no military, no control of their borders, no control over their access to resources like electricity, water, and medical supplies, no freedom of movement, and, most importantly, they do not have the most powerful government in the world funding them.
Israel is an apartheid state. Refer to it as such. It is based in a settler colonialist system that actively recruits and funds people from the Jewish diaspora to move into homes on stolen Palestinian land. Since the formation of the state of Israel in 1948, 42% of the West Bank has been illegally settled while 86% of East Jerusalem has been stolen for settler use. Under international law, the expansion of these settlements is illegal. Israel has faced zero repercussions for their actions. Hold them accountable in your speech.
Do not refer to the Israeli army as the "IDF" (Israeli Defense Force). Palestinians refer to them as the "IOF" for a reason--Israel does not need to defend themselves from civilians who have no military. From 2008 to September 2023, over 3,800 Palestinian civilians were killed by the IOF. There is no need for oppressors to defend themselves--they are the ones on the offense at all times by the nature of their positions of power.
Remember that decolonization will not be a peaceful process. Do not condemn a group of people who have been brutally colonized, ethnically cleansed, and displaced from their homes for 75 years for fighting back against those oppressing them. This post concisely explains why the violence necessary for decolonization will never match that of the violence necessary for the sustained process of colonization. You cannot break free of a violent system with nonviolence. When Palestinians attempted peaceful protest in 2018 on the 70th anniversary of the Nakba, they along with clearly marked journalists, doctors, and medics were shot and killed for their actions. Oppressors will maintain their power status by any means necessary; the ongoing genocide of Palestinians is proof of that. Decolonization requires violence because colonization itself is an inherently violent system.
Zionism does not equate to Judaism. Do not let Zionist propaganda fool you into believing that condemning the Israeli government is in any way anti-Semitic. The Israeli government does not represent the views of all Jews, even those who are Israeli citizens. Governments should always, always be criticized and held to account for their actions. Israel is no exception to this rule. Anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism. Anyone who tells you otherwise is weaponizing true Jewish oppression and suffering as a means to gain support for a violent, racist, apartheid government.
Something I’d like to add to the 5th point: Zionism is not Judaism is something to keep in mind at all times. Do not fall into anti-Semitic traps yourself by blaming all Jews for what the Israeli government is doing to Palestinians. As I said above, the Israeli government does not represent the views of all Jews, even those who are Israeli citizens. Unfortunately there will be anti-Semitic rhetoric from some people who believe they’re defending Palestine; it’s our job to shut that shit down. Do not let anyone get away with anti-Semitism in any context. Remind them that, once again, Judaism does not equate to Zionism. There are many Zionists/Zionist sympathizers who are not Jewish themselves (e.g. some Evangelical and Baptist Christians). Jews are not oppressing Palestinians; the Israeli government and Zionists are. Let’s be mindful of the language we are using and the language others use in these conversations.
I think a big reason why "children are an oppressed group" gets (wrongly!) read as a "pedophile talking point" is that everyone treats children so terribly that actual child molesters can speedrun winning a kid's trust by like, actually respecting their needs and perspective, at least at first. Which means that the only way out of this mess is for all of us adults to treat children with respect, so that abusers can't use the rareness of that respect as a weapon.
Yeah I've been thinking a lot about how cults will prey on marginalized people and how it's so much easier to push an "us versus them" mentality on a person who already (legitimately, accurately) perceives the world as hostile to them
