I just spent 5-6 years working 4-10s and seriously, we need that 3rd fucking day. I'm back working 5 8's and I hate it.

I don't know how I managed before. That day of pure rest. The day of pure creative. The day to not have chores, errands, or obligations. Want to catch up on sleep? Go for it. Got a show you've wanted time to binge? Have at it. Games to play? Hike to take? Hobbies to work on?

I never realized what having that extra day did for my well being till it was gone. Yeah, I'm bad at time management, but even on my days off I just feel bad because I just need to rest but I feel guilty if I do. If I sleep too late I won't have any time to do what I need or want. I feel like I'm fighting with myself between my needs and my needs- the need to rest, to catch up on sleep, to get energy, and the need to actually do things- laundry, dishes, cat, self-care.

Yeah, I've been pitching the idea at my new job since I got here- apparently I wasn't the first to bring it up, but it's getting from the 'talking' phase to the 'enacting change' phase.

we need a four day workweek and we also need those four days to not add two extra hours to an already long standard shift. 8 hours is a third of a regular person’s waking day (i am ACUTELY aware of this as a narcoleptic whose reset time is twelve hours. a six hour shift is half of my waking day). Four day workweeks are great but taking the time off the fifth day and adding it on to the other four days is, I feel, nulling the point of a four day week. And yes I am also suggesting the pay increase per hour to compensate for 32 hours being the new full-time. At the very least.

We also literally have studies showing that longer shifts are not more productive, at all, because productivity drops sharply partway through. We’re not meant for long periods of dedicated work. We get the most done in like the first 2-3 hours of a shift. So it doesn’t make sense to lengthen them anyway, in most jobs - you won’t actually get more done.

32 hours should be the new full time.

Wholesome update! After a year of therapy, I not only was able to kiss someone without any panic attacks and subsequently enter into a romantic relationship, but now, five months later, I'm engaged to him!

I still have to hype myself up for phone calls, and haven't gone back to work or school yet, but I'm making progress! Therapy works, y'all!

Today I seriously considered beginning therapy in the near future and just the thought of it alone made me feel so much calmer.

If any of you have had experiences with therapy please do share with me what it was like through reblogs, comments or asks. I have never done this before so I'm kinda nervous.

Yessss!!! Therapy is a wonderful tool! I got back into therapy last year after my anxiety got so bad that I had to take an emergency medical withdrawal from school. After a year, I've worked through trauma I'd forgotten I had, identified and taken the power away from deep seated beliefs about myself I didn't know I had, and now that I've worked through the biggest traumatizing experiences from my past, I'm finding more I didn't know had traumatized me and working through those too. I'm honestly in the best place mentally that I've ever been, and I'm doing things that anxiety prevented me doing before.

It took me a while to get to where I am. My therapist right now is the fourth I've had.

My first one was in high school during my mental breakdown. By the time my patents got me into therapy, I was too far gone. Lesson one, therapy won't help you if you don't let it help.

Years later, I got back into therapy for the first time, and it was really helpful for a couple of weeks. I really clicked with the therapist, she gave me a lot of tools for navigating and understanding my anxiety. But then our insurance said "oh we don't cover her anymore. We know she's still on our list of covered therapists, but she moved practices, so even though we haven't taken her off our list, she's not covered anymore." So I couldn't afford to keep going, which was really discouraging. Lesson two: make sure you can afford the therapist, through insurance or independently doesn't matter, just make sure you're covered.

It took me like a year and a half to try again, and I never fully clicked with the therapist we found. I didn't feel relaxed or at ease talking to her. I felt like I was being judged, which was weird because she never said or did anything to justify that feeling. I stuck with her for a few months, but after I moved home during the pandemic, I met with her on video calls a couple of times, but digital meetings just don't work for me. Online school was a nightmare. I just don't connect right over video calls. So I stopped going to her, discouraged again. Lesson three: find a therapist you can freely talk to.

I dragged my feet on finding another therapist. I had a bad experience end of summer 2020 that was really a kick in the pants to get back into it, but even then, it took me until March or April 2021 to actually do it, but when I did, it clicked. I finally found a therapist I could afford who I felt I could talk to about anything (which really is a key point. If you don't feel like you can talk to your therapist, you don't have the right therapist.) She does EMDR along with classic CBT, and it's been the perfect balance for me. I don't remember what EMDR stands for, but it's about stimulating both sides of your brain to kick it into processing mode to be able to process through things. Lesson four: once you find the right therapist for you, stick to it. It can take time to improve, and sometimes it can get worse before it gets better because you're actively focusing on things you often try not to think about, but it really truly does help.

It would’ve likely originally been played on a sammûm, a bit like a lyre, in accompaniment of a singer.

Whilst its the oldest piece of music, it’s not complete (I believe the oldest complete song is the Seikilos Epitaph), so it’s transcription is controversial; there are a few differing decipherments.

In short, here are some of the things a musicologist would have to do in order to get to the point where you can start looking for someone who plays an ancient Mesopotamian lyre (yes, the sammûm is a type of lyre):

1.  Find the tablets. 2.  Know enough cuneiform to identify the language, the culture, the time period, and the fact that this is music notation, which was vanishingly rare in a culture where people wrote with a stylus on wet clay. 3.  Know what instruments people played and how they were used. 4.  Figure out how many strings this instrument had and how they were tuned.  This is harder than it looks because, while instruments can sometimes survive millennia, strings tend not to survive, and as any string player knows, tuning often doesn’t survive a single performance. 5.  Figure out the tuning system – our Western even-tempered scale is a recent invention.  J.S. Bach composed the Well-Tempered Clavier to show off even-tempered tuning in 1722.  The octave is a creation of physics; dividing the octave into pleasing individual notes that can be put together to make music is a creation of culture, and there’s no reason to assume that ancient Mesopotamians used modern Western scales. 6.  Learn the corpus of music theory that supports the structure of this piece of music.  If you know the theory, you can figure out what the music is doing; if you don’t know the theory, you have a random string of notes, not music. 7.  Because this was only a semi-written culture, music was heavily improvisatory.  You have to know that what’s written down is more of an outline or a suggestion.  The real art is in filling in the rest of the pattern.  A lot of traditional non-Western music works like this (and up until fairly recently, quite a bit of Western classical music also incorporated this aspect; even today, the art of playing a cadenza is a Thing), so if you’re not an ethnomusicologist, you’ll want to bring one in, preferably one who works with contemporary West Asian folk and/or classical forms. 8.  Ahhh!  At last!  You’ve gotten to the point where you think you can figure out what this piece is supposed to sound like.  Now you have to transcribe it all into Western staff notation (which isn’t designed to handle music like this). 9.  Unless you are also an expert on building and playing ancient Mesopotamian lyres, you must now go and find someone who is.  Fortunately, there are one or two of these people around.  Give that person your music, and book the recording studio! 10.  The next time anyone asks you why studying music is important, now you know.

I’m sorry, but that is misleading as hell. American and European trucks are bred for different purposes.

American trucks are bred for long hauls on largely straight roads. They can go for hours without a break. A European truck needs more breaks and a lighter load, and they would indeed take great internal damage if they tried to keep up with the Longsnout.

The European Shortsnout is not bred for looks, but for agility! They navigate the windy roads of Europe in a way that would be way too risky for the powerful, but more clumsy American truck. It is true that the European overheats faster at high speeds, that is the very reason that breaks every 4,5 hours are mandatory for both the truck and the handler and a day of driving can never be longer then 9 hours.

So, all in all, appreciate all of our trucks and our shared history, and be the responsible owner that gets the right breed for the right job.

To be fair, the US does have shortnose trucks as well, they’re just a breed kept mainly for very local work where, like the above says, they are working in places with lots of turns, shorter drives, and plenty of stops. I see them used for garbage pickup a lot, where a longnosed Mack wouldn’t be able to fit much less maneuver, and the short nose prevents them from getting rubs (raw skin or even open sores) on their snouts.

I would also like to point out that the tags have got it backwards. The wild trucks (which I’m pretty sure are extinct in the wild now) that all modern breeds stemmed from were shortnose trucks. We had known about automobiles and domesticated several species, but the truck species was not discovered until close to the start of the 1900’s, in Germany, which I BELIEVE was the first country to breed them in captivity, although England was the first country to really start using them for work. I managed to find a photo of taxidermied specimen

As you can see, it resembles both long and short nosed breeds, as well as the far more common house truck used by individuals instead of for commercial work.

As to the aggression, while the mack longnose LOOKS aggressive, they’re generally gentle giants (although please do give them space on the road! not seeing you in their blind spot is NOT the same as aggression!), it is actually the smaller house truck that is often trained by their handler to be aggressive: the keyword being TRAINED, they are also not naturally aggressive. The only time I have seen a mack be commonly aggressive is when they are pulling 2 gravel trailers, and I would be cranky if I was being overworked, too. If you see them hauling that kind of load, just give them space, and you’ll be fine.

@dreorzen While school buses ARE in the automobile order, they are actually part of the Van family, not the Truck family, due to their passenger capacity. As you can see in the photos, they have no cargo bed or hookup, and are not really built for object transport. But they DO excel at carrying passengers, particularly children (although certainly not limited to just children)

They’re known to be exceptionally protective of any passengers, and if you look closely on that second image you can actually see a specialized appendage that is (I think) unique to school buses- a small, red, octagonal fan, which they extend when there are small creatures around them that they are acquiring or releasing. Much like an angler fish’s bioluminescent bulb appendage, this fan (along with several bioluminescent patches on top of their faces and on their hindquarters) works to mesmerize any other vehicles in close proximity, to where those vehicles will cease movement until the bus lowers the fan. It’s super fascinating behavior, and little wonder why we trust our children to these gentle, protective giants.

guys last night I had a dream that I became Spider-Girl but instead of spending the whole dream being lit and excited and swinging around kicking some ass like…I was just super distressed over what bra to wear? I was like “am I gonna have to just wear sports bras 24/7 now??? Those are so unflattering on me! But my regular bras would be AWFUL to wear for heavy physical activity, that’s the whole reason sports bras were made in the first place. A bralette could be a nice middle ground, but they’re also super cute and I don’t want them to get destroyed in a particularly bad fight!’ and like for a good majority of this dream I had this ENITRE inner monologue/freakout over it WHILST trying to change into my costume in a moving vehicle and when I finally got everything sorted out I tried to pull the mask on only to go ‘oh FUCK my hair!‘ and that’s the story of the time  a city was almost destroyed because it took me too long to get changed and even though I did save the day in the dream I woke up clutching my boobs in mild panic

I think the real problem is if it’s “dissolves in 2-3 hrs when exposed to specific factors found outside in NYC” versus “this formula absolutely will dissolve in 2-3 hrs” because you could make a case for the latter, definitely, and I admire your practicality; but I’m wondering 2 things abt the former

If it DOES get stuck to the inside of the suit, is the suit breathable/porous enough to expose the webbing to the specific factor that dissolves the webbing

Actually, now that you mention it- I vaguely remember there being a comic where Peter Parker webbed up his junk for whatever reason and got stuck in his clothes for a while. So….it’s probably a yes to getting stuck in the suit, and that would definitely be uncomfortable. Would I have to create a seperate kind of web fluid just for my chest? Not to mention, would you just web the breasts, or would you need a wraparound the torso job like a bra usually does? How would I physically be able to do that?

This is fucking exhausting work and I haven’t even gotten to saving the city yet. Look, dammit, six different buildings are on fire and I’m busy trying to superglue my tits. Stopping a mugging?? Sorry, could you just give me a second to re-adjust? I’ll be with you in a moment, sir.

I’m loving this. To clarify though the web undies bit is extenuating circumstances; that comic had Doc Oc take over Peter’s body and while he was in it he’d changed the formula for the webbing to something much longer lasting (I’m not sure if it never dissolves or just took days. I only saw the pages that explained why he was currently stuck and that was a while ago). So when Peter got his body back he didn’t know about the change and had at one point needed to web himself for modesty and… yeah.

So there’s a good chance you’ll still have to web up multiple times regardless, depending on if it’s outside elements or time based breakdown of the solution. And the suit is supposed to be breathable enough to allow for sticking to surfaces in general, so good chance it’s not weather proof in all the worst ways on top of no support and possibly letting everyone know something strange is going on with your torso at the moment. I doubt webbing is smooth/won’t stick to the suit or that you’ll have time to attempt to make it that way.

Built in suit support could quickly turn either sports bra chic or 180 into Batman’s Fake Tits, so there’s another problem. There’s like Taylor’s and stuff in the Marvel Universe who specialize in nothing but designing suits. On top of that as one of the spider totems you would have access to Tony Stark and his technology or even Shuri and her technology. They could definitely design a bra specific for Heroes that is both practical and pretty and leaves you with next to no damage. In fact I could probably make you a bulletproof bra that looks runway-ready even after you just got out of a fight with Galactus.

Gonna go ahead and add here that Spidey has multiple web formulas including long lasting ones and web-dissolving fluid, so you could use one of the long lasting ones that don't dissolve in hours and use said dissolving liquid to dissolve your web bra when you take off the suit.

All that said, the logistics of being able to actually web up one's own bra seems both miserable and complicated, and as a person who is, shall we say, well-endowed, bras in general are just the worst things ever.

Tony may be able to help, yes, but I would honestly be surprised if Shuri has never figured out better bras, especially given that their entire elite warrior force is strictly women doing epic and physically demanding things. And if you showed up at Shuri's door in the middle of the night instead of Tony's à la that gif, I can just see her throwing opening her door and going "I have just the thing!" and then showing you like the ultimate superhero bra that actually holds your boobs in place during excessive physical action and doesn't cause pain at the end of a long day (or, y'know, regular day) but still also looks cute (cause look, I may not be in any kind of romantic relationship for a long time to come, but just because no one else is ever going to see it doesn't mean I don't deserve cute bras that I like dammit) and maybe even has superhero functions like being bulletproof or some shit like that (though if the suit is bulletproof, the bra doesn't really need to be, but hey you could wear it during non-hero moments and dang wouldn't that be a fun moment to get shot in a civilian situation and have it just bounce off your bulletproof boobs)
