I often wonder what happened to authors of unfinished fanfictions.
I hope they’re having a nice life
we absolutely are not and that unfinished fic haunts us to this day

Yes, lets imagine a world WITHOUT MUSLIMS, shall we?
Without Muslims you wouldn’t have:
Coffee
Cameras
Experimental Physics
Chess
Soap
Shampoo
Perfume/spirits
Irrigation
Crank-shaft, internal combustion engine, valves, pistons
Combination locks
Architectural innovation (pointed arch -European Gothic cathedrals adopted this technique as it made the building much stronger, rose windows, dome buildings, round towers, etc.)
Surgical instruments
Anesthesia
Windmill
Treatment of Cowpox
Fountain pen
Numbering system
Algebra/Trigonometry
Modern Cryptology
3 course meal (soup, meat/fish, fruit/nuts)
Crystal glasses
Carpets
Checks
Gardens used for beauty and meditation instead of for herbs and kitchen.
University
Optics
Music
Toothbrush
Hospitals
Bathing
Quilting
Mariner’s Compass
Soft drinks
Pendulum
Braille
Cosmetics
Plastic surgery
Calligraphy
Manufacturing of paper and cloth
It was a Muslim who realized that light ENTERS our eyes, unlike the Greeks who thought we EMITTED rays, and so invented a camera from this discovery.
It was a Muslim who first tried to FLY in 852, even though it is the Wright Brothers who have taken the credit.
It was a Muslim by the name of Jabir ibn Hayyan who was known as the founder of modern Chemistry. He transformed alchemy into chemistry. He invented: distillation, purification, oxidation, evaporation, and filtration. He also discovered sulfuric and nitric acid.
It is a Muslim, by the name of Al-Jazari who is known as the father of robotics.
It was a Muslim who was the architect for Henry V’s castle.
It was a Muslim who invented hollow needles to suck cataracts from eyes, a technique still used today.
It was a Muslim who actually discovered inoculation, not Jenner and Pasteur to treat cowpox. The West just brought it over from Turkey
It was Muslims who contributed much to mathematics like Algebra and Trigonometry, which was imported over to Europe 300 years later to Fibonnaci and the rest.
It was Muslims who discovered that the Earth was round 500 years before Galileo did.
The list goes on………..
Just imagine a world without Muslims. Now I think you probably meant, JUST IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT TERRORISTS. And then I would agree, the world would definitely be a better place without those pieces of filth. But to hold a whole group responsible for the actions of a few is ignorant and racist. No one would ever expect Christians or White people to be held responsible for the acts of Timothy McVeigh (Oklahoma bombing) or Anders Breivik (Norway killing), or the gun man that shot Congresswoman Giffords in head, wounded 12 and killed 6 people, and rightly so because they had nothing to do with those incidents! Just like the rest of the 1.5 billion Muslims have nothing to do with this incident!

Y’know I reblogged this a bit ago and was saved from financial probation and getting kicked out of school because of it, just mere months from graduation. Got a call from the financial aid advisor telling me that they made a mistake with filing my account (or some other sort of clerical error) and said that, basically, they owe me money. Welp.
Last time I reblogged the money cat, I won two $100 gift cards at work.
I’m so mad because this worked

Have you ever found yourself in the middle of a book and found it too miserable to continue? So you turn to your Stack and pull the fluffiest novel from it, hoping it'll be the literary equivalent of a milkshake? And you discover, instead, it's like a milkshake *and* a plate of fries *and* the perfect steak? That's Jill Mansell. Her books are full of characters who'd not be out of place in an episode of "Miranda" or "Vicar of Dibley" or even "Absolutely Fabulous." I'm not much of one for modern romances - or bodice rippers, for that matter - but I'll be picking up another book by this author, as soon as I make more progress on the Stack.

Author Crush
I have a new author crush. That's not to say it's a crush on a new author, but a new crush on an author who is, coincidentally, rather new to me.
I read "Beauty" and "Rose Daughter" by Robin Mckinley back in March, and in the last two months have read two short story collections, "A Knot In the Grain" and "The Door In the Hedge," as well as "Spindle's End." I also have "Dragonhaven," "The Hero and the Crown," and "Sunshine" waiting in my stack of books to be read.
And every single one has been brilliant, lush and fantastical. Robin Mckinley is my new author crush: I want to fly to England, track her down and give her a plate of homemade cookies on the off chance she just might make me coffee and talk to me about writing.
How to Join Your Library's Shhh List
But I do have a point: If you request upwards of 20 books in, say, 30 minutes, all of which are marked 'check shelf', you may end up on your local library's bad side. Or, you can consider it, as I do, giving the lovely library staff something to do as more aspects of their jobs become automated and computerized.
For instance, I requested the following knitting books from my library. (And then froze half of them as I am already near my loan limit!)
Pretty Little Things to Make: 20 Heirloom Projects for Babies and Toddlers, Judith More
Sock Knitting Master Class: Innovative Techniques & Patterns from Top Designers, Ann Budd
Knitting Vintage: 30 Knitting Projects Inspired by Period Fashions, Claire Montgomerie
Knitting Scarves from Around the World, ed. Kari Cornell
Mastering Color Knitting: Simple Instructions for Stranded, Intarsia and Double Knitting, Melissa Leapman
Simple Knitting: A Complete How-to-Knit Workshop with 20 Projects, Erika Knight
Knitting a Kiss in Every Stitch: Creating Gifts for the People You Love Nicky Epstein
Knitting with Beads: 30 Beautiful Sweaters, Scarves, Hats & Gloves, Jane Davis
Nordic Knitting: Thirty-one Patterns In the Scandanavian Tradition, Susanne Pagoldh
Stashbuster Knits: Tips, Tricks and 21 Beautiful Projects for Using Your Favorite Leftover Yarn, Melissa Leapman
Viking Patterns for Knitting: Inspiration and Projects for Today's Knitter, Elsebeth Lavold (trans. Robin Orm H)
Custom Knit Accessories: Unleash Your Inner Designer with Improvisational Techniques for Hats, Scarves, Gloves, Socks and More, Wendy Bernard
November Knits: Inspired Designs for Changing Seasons, Kate Gagnon Osborne & Courtney Kelley
Perfectly Plus: Featuring the Knit-to-Fit Workbook for the Full-Figured Woman, Mary Arnold, Colleen East & Kristen Hansen
ETA: Turns out 'freezing' my holds didn't work. Lovely. >_<
I was bad this week: I checked out another four books from the library, which were added to the stack I already have from the library. But two are books of short stories and they are all YA, so they likely won't take long to read. In the meantime, I'm contemplating British Literature - but mostly modern and not in anyway part of The Cannon.
VICTORY
YES. Finally finished a book. Normally I read more quickly, but hating everything apparently ruins even that. As for Rick Castle's Frozen Heat? Excellent, especially if you watch the show. It lagged in parts, as have Naked Heat, Heat Wave, and Heat Rises, but I think the story of this one was the best so far.
OH. That's right. I have one of these. Kind of forgot this week... Anywho! Modern literature: Because I can. (No, literally, that's the point of Modern Lit, it seems.)
Mysteries! Because the newest Rick Castle novel came in at the library for me and it's awesome and hilarious (Seriously. Another show that rewards viewers who pay attention. After all, two detectives named Malcolm and Reynolds? Seriously?) and it reminded me how much I love mysteries, whether there's death involved or no.
And now! For more books I own and plan to read (at some point). Why, yes, I am delusional. Thanks for asking!
